Thanks, Nines!

I went to both Mobile Solutions and Sonus. Highly recommend both! Using templates to get clean shapes is the way to go!

Working on the first half of the router bench. Lots of work but I'm really liking the way it is looking..

Drawers are mounted and working well. First time I've done this sort of thing. Turning out nice. I know I'll be happy with it. Next up I'm going to make the fronts and start the black laminate.

Assembled drawers are mounted and working well. First time I've done this sort of thing. Turning out nice. I know I'll be happy with it. Need to assemble the other two drawers and mount them. Then I'm going to make the fronts and start the black laminate.

Very nicely done for a first try. Are you adding dust extraction for the routers ?

Thank you! I'm loosely following the cabinet construction style from this book:

ada13256d87201ede19135d827added7.jpg

The carcass is really strong. The drawers are **** joints with the bottom glued and stapled to the bottom. This approach is from the same book. The drawer action is nice and smooth.

The large opening above the drawers will have a separate module that will slide in. It will include a dust enclosure for the router with a port exiting the rear of the cabinet to a header. I think small drawers will flank the router enclosure.

There will be a gutter over the dust ductwork that offcuts and dust can be pushed into and cleaned out later.

The top is 1" Baltic birch 30" deep and 15' wide overall.

Still in the process of assembling my Clearvue cyclone on the other side of the wall to the woodshop.

I have a Clearvue as well. Most of my PVC runs under my slab, helping to ground the system. Make sure you ground your ducting.

Too excited to keep this to myself!
Laminated the first drawer front. It's far from perfect, but it's perfect for the shop!!!

Yes! Home Depot ish. It's working well. Wouldn't work in a kitchen because of the **** joints on the laminate, but it will look great in the shop. Taking a little time, but this bench will be here a very long time!!

Two drawers tonight!

I do not love the whole drawer slide thing. Still have lots to learn. Looks like this will do the trick. Next up is the top... 1" Baltic birch with the same laminate. Adding a gutter in the back along the back for offcuts and such.

I'll add separate slide in modules above each drawer bank for dust collection, power and more drawers.

Each of the large openings will get two banks of drawers with the center section left for the router lift, dust enclosure and power switch. Started making those small drawer modules today. Two made. Will be eight total. They go together pretty fast. This cabinet will have nineteen drawers, all 24" deep!! I'm excited about all of the storage in these!!

Getting the dozen small drawer boxes assembled and mounted. It will be so nice having all of this accessible storage!!

Top coming together. Used Dominos to join two chunks of 1" Baltic birch. First router lift hole cut. Rounded the end corner

I've enjoyed watching the shop progress. Your current project has gotten me thinking it might be time to work on some storage myself. Keep up the good work.

I've noticed most audio related router tables are basically counter tops against a wall. It would seem like you would need more clearance around the router bit for longer/larger panels, have you ever encountered a problem with space? I have a perfect counter top for a couple router lifts but I've been hesitant to put them in it due to wall clearance. I basically use a portable router table for now and it *****.

Your cabinets are super nice man, you should get a lifetime of service out of them!

Next up is laminating this top!

6fd7da1adc67607c089932ae01874801.jpg

I've used the routers at Sonus and Mobile Solutions. Micah (Sonus) made his tables. I liked it a lot better than the IKEA cabinet based (MS) style. I like making my own stuff the way I want it.

I'm using Baltic birch for the top to hopefully keep it as flat as I can.

Spent a ton of time the past few days designing a PLC based dust collection automation system. Scored several items on eBay for great prices and ordered the rest. Using an Automation Direct 06 PLC to drive pneumatically operated blast gates. Current operated switches to tell the PLC 230v machines are running and double pole switches on routers to signal the PLC they are running. The program will line up the blast gates to the machine running and start the cyclone if it isn't already running.

Going to add logic to limit dust collector starts to 4-5/hour, and to ensure there's always a flow path lined up when it's running. Dust bin full will inhibit dust collector start/turn it off and flash a strobe.

The gates will be the aluminum gates modified with dual acting air cylinders to operate. 24vdc on all controls and inputs.

I'm excited to get this sorted out. When it's up and running it will be seamless.

Started making the dust collection boxes for the router lifts. They will attach to the top from below. Swing down door in front, 4" dust port out the rear of the box through the back of the cabinet to a header with a pneumatically actuated gate for each router.

I think I've ordered everything I need for the blast gate automation. Started mapping the I/O and writing the PLC program. This will be a lot of wiring and plumbing work. When it is done it will be an ear to ear grin every single time I start a machine!!

Very cool. What kind of $$$ investment are you looking at for that system ?

I got several items on eBay which saved some money. All in I'm about $1800 in the controls, pneumatics, new 24x20x8 enclosure with back panel, etc. I had gates on hand. That price includes enough to automate ten gates and dust collector control including bin full photo eye. It wasn't cheap, but I only have to do it once. It's almost all from Automation Direct and ebay.

By comparison one pneumatic gate is about $500 from most place and you still have to buy the solenoid valve and control it. I'll most likely order some DIN rail terminal boards today..

Looking really nice, which router lift did you go with?

Thank you! The lifts are Incra/Jessem Mastr Lift II with the magnalock inserts.

That's not bad if it makes you more efficient and more profit.
Got a link to bin full equipment ? I was planing MDF a few days ago and over-filled my barrel. Now my filters are full of dust.

I'm planning to use a Banner Engineering QS18VN6D photo eye as a PLC input. I have it but haven't wired it in yet.

I think I have all of the parts on hand to do ten gates total. I have a working 4" and 6". Program is written and works well. The enclosure and panel arrived. Now, to build it all out and install!
