You have to be careful, Blackhawk isn't all good. This was from Amazon and these Blackhawk by Proto are made in China of the lowest quality I've ever seen in any tool. The metal is flaking off, chunks fall off when you touch it.

There's got to be at least a dozen threads here on "What's the best oil for my ratchet?", and in each one you will find that every guy has his own formula.
Some use heavy grease, some use light aerosol lubricants.
I suppose in an old 1661 Penens (or that "Fleet" you just acquired) a "grease" might be a suitable choice, but too heavy a grease can plug up the works.
I use Marvel Mystery Oil and a tiny dab of white lithium grease (like "Lubriplate") in all of mine - nothing too heavy.
Guy Wheaton (the Indestro rep) told me to just use "plain old oil".

In one of the the "which ratchet lube" threads here somebody related an anecdote about some old-school mechanics who all dropped their ratchets into a big bucket of oil at the end of their shift, wiping them down the following morning prior to tackling their first job of the day. That struck me as an interesting idea, but I'm not sure I'd be using an SAE 30W on more recently-produced units - the old "open gear" models (like the old 77 Thorsen or the 6270 Indestro) would probably be just fine, but I would think it would gum up a newer super-fine-tooth unit like the 72-and-80-tooth models touted in various threads.

Hope it's a good one! They're usually not well taken care of. (at least those I've gotten.)

Not sure I should have even posted that Thorsen (88JNR), but I added the caveat on there about the way the head swings freely. I was a little dismayed when I unwrapped mine a couple weeks ago. It's not a huge deal for me, but I can see where it would be a pain in the *** for somebody clipping a long extension onto the thing and leaning over a fender to get into a hole somewhere.
Strikes me as kind of a brain-fart design blunder, although as long as the pin remains tight it should work just dandy.

4C please help to get Spin to get into collecting the New Britain rachets and tools! Those are among my very favorites! Spin, there are like 40 variations of all the ones New Britain made! You must have them all. A favorite are the Champion Plugmaster long fine tooth flex ends! Best ones are the ones made as Blackhawk (before Proto relationship) or Napa New Britain house brand or the Plugmasters, but all are good. Someone should really bring back the New Britain name and start making these again. I think Stanley owns the name still. - Paul

No, I don't know but 4C may. Or, search on wright in the tools section for old threads. May be covered there or could revise an old thread and the Wright experts would help. I only have 2 or 3 Wright rachets, some wrenches, and quite a few sockets. Like them all alot, much like SK or Indestro or Proto or Williams. Also, we do have a "vintage tool" section on GJ. There are many experts there on the vintage stuff. I started the New Britain thread there in the vintage section, but more as one wanting to learn than an expert. I'm becoming more aware of New Britain's details now though as I learn more. - Paul

seem to be very well made and the head diameters are tiny - about all I can tell you.

Meh. Got a Craftsman 44702 13/16" combo wrench to fill the missing one from my set. I figured with the age of them plus the same model number, it would have to be USA. Nope, China. (A-AD mark). I should have asked the seller. Only showed a pic of one side of the wrench. Oh well, not that big of a deal since I have a new SK set anyway.

^ I never buy any Craftsman unless I confirm the production code with the seller first. I'm sure I've made a nuisance of myself with some sellers, but that's just too bad.
