They do have animal guards in stations. Either they cover it, or put discs up. The problem is longer animals that can touch energized part and also touch the pole or something grounded. Probably better, but still happens. raccoons especially.

Underground transmission cables suffer dielectric losses. They are essentially coaxial cables filled with a dielectric. The dielectric has a loss component measured by a factor called tangent delta.

Overhead cables do not have this loss component.
Not enough of it to matter, anyway

id say get a diesel generator
I have a Cummins 20KW Propane Gen, it powers house, shop, well with auto switchover. When I was the local t man I would restore my power first & then attended to everyone else. Can't do that anymore, I'm retired Gavin Newsons sues PG&E every time there is a power failure , we would file bankruptcy & then everyone paid/the American way. Rick R

Huh? When did newsalini sue Profit gouge and execute? Quite the opposite. He wont go after them. He gets bribes from them. The state wouldnt even charge them with crimes for san bruno disaster…
