I was in the Lowes/Fresno on North Blackstone on the Jan 4th and they had 3 kits. GTOGreg we were just at Magnussen's Lexus and could have brought the kits to you.

Now you tell me... :lol_hitti JK, that's a very kind thought Larry, thank you.

Christine,
I have a gravel driveway and was wondering how the floor will stand up to gravel on our cars tires.

Any epoxy can scratch with the gravel stuck in the tires. In this case I would apply a clear coat over the base, the scratches would be harder to see and if eventually it needed repair, clear is much easier to repair. That being said, I you can check out our data sheet to see the strength of our product.

But wait, you also get a really bitchin state of the art metal mixing rod in irresistable red. Now how much would you pay?

Seriously, same kit. The only thing they don't have at Lowe's is the topcoat. Also if you wanted to do more flake or a different color you'd have to order that as well.

I wouldn't put a top coat from Lowe's on it. I was told this would void the warranty. I was tempted to put on Endurashield from AlphaGarage because all their stuff gets great reviews and it was a little cheaper than the polyurea from Epoxy Coat. In the end I just didn't have the stones to do it and risk some sort of incompatibility and two vendors pointing fingers at each other. As far as I know Epoxy Coat has a clear epoxy top coat and a polyurea which costs more but is supposed to be more durable and more UV resistant. My garage doors open on the west side and I've got 44' of opening so it can get a lot of sun. I had to use 4 kits which ran about $600 and the polyurea was close to $1000 so roughly 50% more than the cost of the epoxy kits. I did A LOT of research on this stuff (way too much to be honest) and epoxy coat was the only vendor that said it was OK to do a chip floor w/o a top coat. I will say this, I'm glad I did the top coat and I wouldn't even consider a flake floor w/o it.

This has got to ****! I know you have to give the big box stores a cost break, but members have indicated that it went from $169 to $153 :shocking:
I'm not trying to cause any trouble, but I am curious. Do you find that this helps drive sales because of the wider availability and recognition that you get in the store or hurts it because of the price discrepancy? Is it hard to compete against "yourself"?
Seems like it may be tough!
What do other members think? Helpful or harmful?
I hope it all works out well though.
Good luck and happy sales!

I am not privy to anything here. However, from our own experience with mass retailers, they set the rules and most of the time you go along with it as there is no replacing the sheer volume that these stores create.

I am sure that sales are up nicely and margins are suffering terribly.

It really hasnt had much of effect, I have a few tricks up my sleeve to keep my customers happy and drive extra sales to Lowe's (making myself look good) lol. I can get GJ members to special order at Lowe's, they get the same price + shipping. It is an awkward growing stage, but fortunately it really has not been a problem yet, I think they are looking to reorder real soon....

Ok, good. I thought some of the posts on here sounded defensive like "why would we by it direct when we can go to Lowes and save money", and some people thought they were being screwed. :( Big retailers can always price it less, it seems even than the manufacturer. But then again they don't get the special attention from such a charming gal as "RugerLady" when they get it at Lowes. :)

Totally off topic, the first time I saw Christines handle I thought it was LugerLady and my mind really began to wander........"Ve have Vays of making you talk!", never mind, I digress....

I did a write-up on my install that people can read elsewhere but being a person who purchased the kits and Lowe's and the topcoat from Epoxy-Coat I can say that I was VERY glad to have the technical support from the people at Epoxy-Coat. The people at Lowe's couldn't find their *** with both hands, a map and a flashlight. I literally notified them they had the product in their store and then had to wait 2 weeks for them to find it. As far as technical expertise goes they didn't know anything about 100% solids. The product name kept throwing them I had to convince them it was a brand name not a product type. There's a lot to putting this down and my 1800 sf was big enough to be costly and time consuming. I did not want to screw this up. Basically if it ever came down to buy at Lowe's and your on your own or buy through Epoxy-Coat and pay a bit more but have access to tech support I would recommend people buy direct. That being said, when it was 6pm and I thought I was running out of material I was damn glad I was able to send someone 3 miles away to pick up another kit just in case.

:) I would as well. Maybe you can get corporate to send you there as a "Special Advisor" and oversee installation and be on hand for any tech questions. Just a thought...

Just built a 24x20 (480 sq ft)... Would the 500 Sq ft kit be enough or will I run into a issue needing a little extra?

They can special order the 1/2 kit. Please give me a call or take my # to the local Lowe's and I can help them special order it for you.
