Well here we are at the start of 2020. I drove up to NJ for Christmas with an empty trailer. I loaded the plasma table, the Ellis saw, my everyday toolbox, a belt grinder, a tool grinder, and a small drill press.

The ride back to Florida was heavy rain all the way and it took me over 18 hours.
The house is just about complete and we are looking at getting a CO on the 15th. We have our final walk through with the builder scheduled for the 21st. Laura is flying down for the walk through and flying back the next day to supervise the pack out of the house in NJ.

Two days after Christmas we signed a contract on the sale of the Jersey house. Things are moving along at a break neck pace.

I spent the day getting quotes for roll up doors for the shop and I think I have made a choice and should have doors on site late next week.
I have hired a low boy truck to move the balance of machinery from NJ. I still have 2 lathes, 3 mills, a shear, a brake, a slip roll, 3 drill presses, a hydraulic press, a shaper, 2 more benches, and a bunch of welding machines to move. The trucker says that he can get it all on one trailer and not be over weight.

As for the household goods, I am renting a Penske truck and hiring bonded day labor to load and unload the truck. I have a friend that will drive the truck and he and Laura will convoy down together. I'll fly up to supervise the load out and fly back to do the unload.

The shop will still ne a lot of work but I will at least have my wife and everything else from NJ here with me at the Grove.

Pics are of the load I just brought down.

First congrats on getting a contract on the old home. Definitely sounds like you all will be busy, busy, busy.
Is it about time for us to stop in and play with, I mean help unload stuff? [emoji16]

Congrats on the sale of your NJ house Mac. Like Willie said, that has to be a great feeling. BTW, has anyone ever told you, "you have a lot of stuff?" :wtf:

Thanks Shorty. Once I get everything unloaded, bolted down to the floor, and locked up, I'll schedule a work party and you guys can come up and uh uh help

I am sure that the contract on the house takes a load off your mind. Congrats.

Willie, it took a load off Laura's mind, I alway knew it would sell at the right time

Thanks Dan. Now that I have a 2400 sq/ft shop that I don't have to share with my son Trevor, I'm thinking that maybe I don't have enough Stuff and need to procure some more.

That is great news. Congrats on getting the house sold.

I called in a bunch of favors and I'm going to have the rest of my shop trucked down here on a low boy for a price I couldn't refuse. I will fly up and load/supervise the pack out and then fly back down to meet and unload the truck. I'l be renting a 8-10K tele handler on both ends. This should all take place before the end of the month.

Next up on my agenda is finishing out the inside of the shop. I don't want to leave it as is, I want walls.
I've given it much thought and right now I'm leaning towards OSB from the floor to 8' up and then white steel liner panels above the OSB to the ceiling. I like the idea of smooth walls and being able to hang things from the walls.
If anyone has any thoughts I'd like to hear them, I only want to do this once.

I've got painted OSB in my shop and like it. Like you said, it's nice to just screw something to it.

YMMV

BTW, whatever you do, stay away from Craig and Gerard. I hear they are bad influences. :rolleyes2

I'm not sure Dan but I may have corrupted both of them deeper into the role of bad influence, or did they just drag me down and I didn't realize it:headscrat

I read the first post ***I don’t’ know where I’m going to move to, but I know it will be much farther south of NJ, east of the Mississippi River, and not in Florida.*** then skipped to the last page where OP says he moved to Florida! Surprise!

Congrats on the contract on your Jersey home. I’m sure it feels good to even though it’s going to be real crazy next few weeks.

Finallygotit, I was already discussing layouts before the walls where up. [emoji12] Now Craig on the other hand... well let’s just say he finds a lot of things you didn’t realize you needed.

Glad everything is falling into place for you. Regardless of the work involved, you will feel a lot more relaxed when you have wife and shop in Florida with you.
I have OSB for my walls and in the big picture it works well. But I have to make sure I find the studs when mounting anything heavy. And several years in I still have a lot to do. I blame Craig for all, at least most of, the extra stuff.

I did OSB and painted it. I’m not a fan of unpainted OSB. Doing the metal above is a good idea. Breaks up a big wall and gives it some style. Will you use studs on the lower wall? If so, have you considered metal instead of wood?

Mac, your idea sounds like it'll look pretty sharp and be functional. The only thing I can suggest is maybe all sheet metal in the welding/ open flame area.

That's the one thing I have against my pole barn type construction is the wood frame. I try to keep the hot activities outside and when I do anything inside, I'll wait a while before closing up.

Shorty, your wall/ ceilings look good.

Poor Trevor. Lost the use of a shop with tooling, and had to find a home for his El Camino.

Congrats on hitting the home stretch!

Trevor has building permit in hand to start on his own shop and he has been buying machines since I bought the land here in Florida.

Shorty I will be putting studs up and I will most likely use metal studs but maybe on 24" centers.

Craig, good idea on the metal around the hot work.

I managed to get the trailer unloaded today. Getting the plasma table off was a little bit of a challenge but I got it off in one piece without damage. I placed it in the corner of the shop where it will live and by leaving a gap between it and the front wall will give me a good place to store all of my sheet material.

As soon as I get doors on the shop, I can move everything I have stored in the house garage out to the shop.

Hi Mac! Congrats on the new digs and sale of the old - been following along. FWIW, I did 8 ft of OSB over wood studs on 2 ft centers. Painted with two coats of outdoor latex with primer. Rolling the paint was a lot of work, but covered very well and gives me a surface I can clean when necessary.

I see you still have that head knocking man lift :lol_hitti

Craig I think you put a hex on me. I knocked my head on that lift once the first week it was here. I have been using it for the last 3 months until today when I knocked my head so bad I saw stars.

BC, that looks great. Did you paint the OSB before you put it up or just roll it after installation?

Dubber just moved to a a bigger garage that was already done in unpainted OSB. check out his thread and see how it turned out painted up to give you an idea.

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=435276&page=10

Thanks for that, I think I'm convinced that OSB is the way I'm going to go.

The last two time Laura was down here she was working on removing the protective plastic from the exterior trim for the shop. She got it all done except the gutters and downspouts.

I started installing the trim on the shop today and after I got the first eave strut cover installed I realized that the next piece to go up would be the first section of gutter. Thats when I realized that Laura didn't peel the plastic off the gutters. I was about 45 minutes into peeling the plastic when I lost daylight (and didn't finish peeling the first gutter). I have 6 sections of gutter and 8 downspouts to peel the plastic off. This is going to be fun.......NOT.

Got home at 2pm today and spent the afternoon pulling protective plastic off of rain gutters and my thumbs are killing me.
I'm looking forward to getting a bunch of trim up tomorrow and then Monday morning I'm off to Orlando to pick up my overhead doors.

I spent a little time tonight installing kitchen cabinet handles and pulls, I'm not quite half way done.

It's been two years since I bought this property and its hard to believe that we are almost ready to move into our new house. We are scheduled to have a final inspection and get our CO next Wednesday. There was nothing but a narrow bridal path running across this place when we bought it, here's a view of the house from the bridal path.

Very nice home and shop. I can see lots of hard work getting the shop and house move in ready. Also good luck with those overhead doors. I have four 14 foot ones in my shop. Three I raise with a chain. The back one I just push up but working on installing a chain drive on it. Please keep us updated.

It was a busy day at the Grove today.

I got 1 eave cap, 1 Rake trim, and 2 gutter sections installed today. It may not seem like a a lot but it took a fair amount of time getting it all installed.

When I lost the outside light, I moved into the house and continued installing the kitchen cabinet hardware. I put another dent in it and have about another 3 hours to finish it all up.

Tomorrow morning I need to change the oil in my truck and head to Orlando to pick up my roll up doors for the shop. If I can get back early enough, I may be able to get some more trim work done on the shop.

Installing the roll up doors is something I can do after the sun goes down, under the rocket lights.

We are still on track for CO inspection on Wednesday and Laura flies in next Saturday to do the final walk through on Monday to generate the final punch list.

The place is looking great Mac. I'm happy for you that your build adventure is nearing the end and you can start the occupancy phase and setting things up.

Sometimes it feels like it takes as much time to take all the knobs and pulls and screws out of their packaging as it does to install them ! Keep plugging away, Mac. The finish line is getting closer.

Looking good Mac. Getting closer and closer to calling this home. Hope the CO gets signed off and there’s minimal punch list items.

So here's how it went today. I met with Jerry this morning and we discussed the irrigation system that was to be installed today. I met with the electrical contractor to discuss his punch list items.

I then hitched up the trailer and drove 2 hours to Orlando to get the doors for the shop and made the 2 hour trip home. I got the doors unloaded off the trailer, and inspected the electricians work. He did a great job and knocked out his punch list. The irrigation contractor was a no-show.

I went to hook up the water line for the ice maker and realized that I didn't have a hose for it. I jump in the truck and drive 10 miles to Lowes and get what I needed. On the way home, the truck dies. I hit the primer pump a few times and the truck starts right up, I drive 500' and it dies again. I repeated this process way too many times to only go about a half mile. I call AAA for a tow. 45 minutes on the phone with AAA, and a 2 hour wait for the tow truck.

I just replaced the filter head on my DMax and I think it is defective, I think it is sucking air around the primer pump. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to figure that out. It was an interesting day here at the Grove.
