It's funny you mention that Craig, I was just given a 30' I beam with a trolly today, I'll have to figure out how to best use it,

What about building a jib crane? It could be mounted between the two roll up doors, build it so it can just clear the door opening and reach inside the shop some.

The only draw back is the need for a large and deep chunk of concrete to anchor it. It wouldn't be too bad to saw out a 4'x4' or so and pour a footer with embedded anchor bolts.

I wish I had the height in my shop. I'd definitely have one.

I'm hoping I can afford A/C in my new shop plans, screw working outside. Did that for too many years.
John, it's more like you can't afford NOT to have A/C in your Florida shop. OK, maybe not my kids or grandkids but us retirees don't do well working in a solar-fired oven.

The mini splits seem to be pretty reasonable.

Mack, don’t forget, I be there Saturday with a trailer load of my projects and a cooler full of ice and a fan. AC problem solved. 🤣

I'll pass on the application, even if I get the job I wouldn't want to see other people that look like me in a bikini.

I think I'll pass on further discussion of GJ's in bikini's.

AC in the shop might happen next year but for now the HF 30" pedestal fan makes all the difference in the world.

I'm almost finished with the house projects. I've been building a fenced in area for us to be able to just open the door and let the puppy outside to take care of business. I have a hydraulic auger for the Bobcat but I chose to dig all the fence post holes by hand so I wouldn't have to make multiple repairs to the irrigation system. I hit the sprinkler pipes several times digging it by hand and would have surely destroyed it with the auger.

I should finish the dog pen tomorrow (the puppy arrives on Saturday)

Last on the list is barn doors for the living room. I have the hardware and some re-claimed wooden doors, I just have to find time to do it.

Once the house list is done, it's on to phase II of the shop construction.

One of the joys of living in most parts of Florida, digging in sandy soil. The place is really shaping up Mack. I’m thinking there’s a starving Coed that could have helped with the fence.....while wearing a bikini.
We need to plan another visit in the next several months and I’ll pick up the finished projects.

Heres the latest update.

Etta has shark teeth and is keeping Laura and I quite busy.

I closed my Suzuki dealership in 2009 and had quite a surplus of NOS parts kicking around for the past 10 years or so. I finally sold the whole lot of parts that has replenished my piggy bank for the shop build  , can I get an Amen. I spent the afternoon building a crate and getting the parts inventory all packed up and ready to ship put tomorrow.

I just ordered 10 high bay LED light fixtures, and I will be heading to a box store or lumber yard this week to get materials for getting the inside of the shop done.

I should be back to making progress on the shop this coming weekend.

I'm more curious how you determined the size of the box then just barely got everything packed. Well done!

Mack that’s a lot of stuff to carry around but fantastic that it’s paying dividends towards the shop build.
You should like the high bay lights. I have 8 and think they light the shop up nicely.

To RMACK, I just stumbled on your thread this afternoon.

Robert Burns definitively got it right about the futility of making plans.

I wish you well in your new situation.

I had one good pallet and 3 sheets of OSB, and made it as big as I could.

That is pure genius.:rocker:

I think its more like pure luck.

I want day light at any hour of the day.

We tend to tip a dram or 2 to Robert on occasion, thanks.

Mack, nice job on making and packing up that crate. Just enough room for a handful of packing peanuts. :lol_hitti

Jay

Thanks Jay, there wasn't much room for peanuts and the box departed for California this morning.

Well I fell off a ladder for my Birthday and spent the weekend on the couch icing my knee. Went and got lube injected in my knee yesterday to buy me a little more time on my OE knees.

My shop lights show up tomorrow and Laura does not want me on any more ladders. I was looking on marketplace and found a scissor lift at a price I can afford so I'm going to take a look at it after work tomorrow. If all goes well I might have lights in the shop this weekend.

Women just ruin all the fun wanting us to live longer and be able l about to walk.

At least you get to buy a new toy.

EDIT: for some reason my phone changes words after I hit enter and makes me sound drunk - which I may or may not have been.

Oh, so someone really needs the advanced remedial training to include beatings enforcement learning technique.

Please tell Laura money is better spent on a good video system and a “I’ve fallen” pendant then some boring scissor lift. Making of another great YouTube channel.

On a serious note, I used hangers that made installation and leveling very easy. They’re similar to these.

Falling off a ladder and breaking a heel is what prompted me to finally buy a manlift. I wish I would have bought it MUCH sooner, however... it would have avoided the broken bone AND saved a ton of work going up and down ladders. You won't regret getting a functioning one. (I added "functioning" for Shorty's sake, LOL)

This was one of those weekends where nothing went as it should.

The guy on market place sold the scissor lift to someone else. The high bay lights I ordered from LED WHOLESALE still haven't arrived. LED wholesale says that FEDEX delivered them, and FEDEX says that they can't find my house. I spent way too much time on the phone with both FEDEX and LED wholesale today and the only thing I'm certain of is that they are both highly incompetent.

Both FEDEX and UPS deliver here to my house several times a week.

Maybe my light fixtures will show up this week while I search for another scissor lift for sale.

I was wondering if you got your lights installed.

On the lift, are looking at man lifts also? I’ve got a nice order picker I’ll sell you and you don’t have to worry about me selling it elsewhere.

My lights finally showed up this afternoon.

There will be a slight delay on the lights post while I go on a FEDEX rant.

The place that I ordered the light from (who I will never order from again) shipped them via FEDEX. Fedex delivers here to my house at least once a week. The lights were supposed to be delivered last Friday, but our regular driver was off. The replacement driver could not find our house, even though the driveway is clearly marked. No lights on Monday so I got a tracking # from the vendor and the lights ore in the Jax facility with a delivery exception stating the house could not be found. Laura (she has more patience than me) spent 20 minutes on the phone with the FEDEX lady giving explicit instructions on how to get to our house, we were told that the lights would be delivered the next day. No lights get delivered on Tuesday. Wednesday morning I get a call from FEDEX telling me that they can't deliver to an empty lot, the lady on the phone tells me that she is looking at a satellite image of my address and there is no house on the property. I assure her that there is a house and the image she is looking at is old, she argues with me and no lights get delivered.

Laura calls FEDEX this morning and has a lengthy discussion.
This afternoon the lights finally showed up. Check out the picture they tapped to the top of one of the boxes. The FEDEX people here in Jax are MORONS.

OK, rant over, I'm beat. I'll try to get some pictures of the lights tomorrow and maybe get them hung this weekend.

The last pic shows that there is clearly a house on my property. The FEDEX satellite pic is at least 2 years old.

My UPS driver is great. The fedex driver however, is an idiot. I ordered some tires a while back. I was ou tin the yard, under a truck, and I heard a vehicle pull in the drive. BY the time I crawled out there was a Fedex van leaving at a high rate of speed. The fool had backed in, tossed the tires in the ditch, and sped off. Had I not been home my brand new tires would have vanished before I got home.

Mac, don’t feel like the Lone Ranger, ***** fedex drivers arnt limited to your area.

Most of the time it’s fine, but when something goes south, there just not realistic in trying to solve the problem just as you have experienced.

Gets those lights up! But use something other than that ladder!!!!

Well I know for a fact it’s old photography since my office collects and contracts the county aerials.

https://fdotwww.blob.core.windows.n...is/aplus/aerial-status.pdf?sfvrsn=837a7cf9_40

You should send your experience and this link to the the Station Manager and Fedex.
A side note: the station is independently owned and is contracted with Fedex.

I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord I saw the light
