Mike - I think your gable bowed because of the flat 2x4 construction on the truss gable. Our framers L-brace ours (nail 2x4) to the uprights and then strong back the L-braces to straighten the wall.

Now is the time to add a window up there....

I installed a window on each end of my second floor Attis. Great for ventilation .... gets really warm even with the soffit vents and ridge venting. I'll sometimes install 2 inexpensive box fans...one pulling and one pushing. I some time primer parts up stairs. Besides this, a window would really help light the attic as it did in the kitchen! Nice build.

larry4406 - I'm sure your correct. The fix was to remove all the flat ones and install new ones making the L. I will be doing that on the other end as soon as I get back to working on the attic. Now spending time in shop area insulating and putting up wall coverings.

rbuke65 - very good point. I have considers attic fans, but since the attic is open to the downstairs (full garage area) I'm still considering the best way to move air around.

Made a big objection to contractor about the tile and rough cut with tile chipped along the threshold.

Contractor has returned to replace chipped tile.

Big mistake stating that "it's only a garage " to me when I objected in earlier issues.

This is a major event in my life.

Been waiting for my own dream garage forever and when I finally get it you say something like that!!!

It's a wonder somebody didn't have to call 911....

Gutters installed, have both down spouts installed facing down hill. I'm thinking I need to install some underground drain pipe to cut down on the erosion.

After some insulation installed, started putting up some wall covering in shop area.

834343da33e6df33efd24ffe6c033a79.jpg

Added a little bit of peg board on wall leading into garage. This is not good for a bench or a cabinet. I also hate to have lean over a bench to pull something off the board. Seems like you can't use much of it when it's above a workbench and this way I have easier access and can have use from top to bottom.

Mike - turn your downspout slash block around. Will act like a speed bump to slow water velocity and lessen erosion. That's what we do on all our new yards.

I've been out in my small garage cleaning up lately and came up with a brilliant idea you should put to use since you are working with a blank canvas. Before you know it, you will be cluttered with stuff everywhere. I've been watching the tiny house shows and trying to incorporate some of their storage ideas into my garage. Not really accomplished anything yet, but working on cleaning up first!

Larry - I will try that, thanks

Scott - have watched a few of those, you are dead on, they do come up with some good storage ideas, will pay attention to that part more carefully. Thanks.

Here is a picture of the after repairs for the chipped bathroom tile. He will be grouting it later today. The threshold is on the left. 0443b94aa34a0a1b1273e27fded596e5.jpg

Also, a minor detail, but never the less I expect a little more attention to detail was the light switch plate showing the hole and edge of Sheetrock. Had him install a over sized cover to clean the look up.

Finally changed out the exterior light bases to a size that matches the light.

After this thread and seeing photos of my wife's cousins husbands garage this weekend, I'm really feeling jealous now.
He's got a shop a little bigger than yours, but it's completely outfitted with a wood working shop to include a CNC laser cutter and a CNC router table. Complete A/C and air scrubbers.
Of course he has been retired 3 years now and he can make money with these things.

Been installing insulation whenever I have a few spare hours. With the winter coming on now, it’s a task I can’t delay any longer.

Hey Steve,
It's coming closer. Need more wide insulation and almost out of 2x4's. Using up all my scraps up.
Going to have to make a replenishment run before the weekend.
The cold snap has really got me working faster due to the pipes may get too cold.

Mike - that is looking really good.

However the paper is flammable.

Cover it with FSK if you are not going to sheetrock it.

That gable is really begging for a window ;)

Haha regarding the nails hitting your head. I feel your pain. My hair is mostly gone and hit my head on **** all the time. I tell my wife my “probes” are gone (meaning hair) thus no advance notice before head struck and blood letting ensues.
