Fingerprint readers can be pretty unreliable. And being electric they're even less reliable. Could she use a combination lock with buttons like this?

Maybe an ignorant question/proposal, but just throwing this out here.
How blind is she? Legally blind does not mean she can't see anything. It just means her vision is beyond some threshold. At least that's how I understand it.
Is she able to see well enough that she could operate a app on a smartphone that would be unlocked with her face ID or thumbprint?

I'd look at keypad lock sets. Here's a place for ideas:

A couple decades ago I was working for a small startup. At one point I tried to integrate a fingerprint reader also from a small startup into our hardware and software. Chip based fingerprint readers were a new thing then. I got it working but kept getting verification errors maybe half the time. After trying a bunch of things (hold finger this way, stick tongue out that way, etc). I got it down to 1/3 or so. So the execs called in some investors for a demo. And it failed utterly, 0 for 4. Super embarassing.

I complained to the vendor and after a while they sheepishly told me that the signal for match vs no match was reversed from their documentation. But even flipping that bit it was really unreliable so we dropped it.

Scroll forwards 22 years and my iPhone's fingerprint reader is about 10 generations improved. It works pretty well as long as I'm inside and my fingers are dry. Go outside and cut some wood or work on the tractor or dig in the garden and its about 50/50 or less.

There are also handsfree locks available, that unlock as you walk up to the door, based on connectivity with your phone. I don't have any experience with them but remembered seeing them on the smart-home site.

Both myself and a friend have the push button code type. There is no light around it so we can't see them anyway most of the time. You just know the pattern.

Lockpicking lawyer on youtube shows some really neat things, but he even said the fingerprint locks are very easy to get into.

I agree, I use the keypad lock on my side garage door in pitch dark, I deny I am peeing outside.

I have put in key fob remotes that work well, and you could tie it to an automatic door operator. There also RFID card readers that will work with a phone app or a dongle/ card she carried with her. The down side of the phone app is the app has to be running on the phone, which may be a challenge for her. contact a local security access control company and they should have no problem hooking you up

I'd suggest a key pad lock, she only needs to remember what positions to push. The thumbprint reader I got was a pos. It worked on large thumbs only, not the kids, or the wife.

We use either Kwikset or Weiser for all the locks, as they use "smartkey" so you can key them all the same, for both the knob and dead bolt. This way we have one key to lock/unlock any of our locks as a backup.

I suggest you use a keypad lock 100%. If you purchase a keypad lock with Zwave or Zigbee tech and have a Smarthings hub, you can also program the lock to unlock with iphone presence. So basically unlock automatically lock and/or unlock based on a smartphone being present. In that case the keypad is your backup. With a smart hub (if that is a direction you want to go), you can also program the lock to engage automatically after closing the door (with any delay you want) etc., assuming you have a door sensor also in place.

Any keypad lock though would work fine. I would not bother with fingerprint anything on a door lock.

I have both smart and "dumb" keypad locks in our home, and they're pretty awesome. No one has used a key here in 3-4 years.

I recently purchased a complete door set: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/we...lever-and-smartkey-in-satin-nickel/1000856218

This is a complete set (easy to manage with no sight) and is decent quality.

We also have used three of the Kwikset deabolts with zero issues: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07BLJ38SJ/?tag=atomicindus04-20

I have not programmed any kind of presence logic..we just use the keypads.

I’m in the lock business and there are no reliable residential fingerprint locks sold. We sell higher end commercial stuff and even that isn’t impressive. I would recommend the Schlage BE series deadbolts or the FE series knob/levers. They light up, but the buttons are easy to make out by feel.
