Quick update - got 2 more of my cabinets hung up - unpacked 4 big boxes full of stuff and took those to the dump. I also cut up some 2x4's and plywood and sheeted over more space in the attic!

I was going to get started painting tonight - but that didn't happen - might get to it by the end of the weekend.

Just got done cleaning up in the garage - I managed to get a whole day out there.

I moved everything off of the back wall in the third bay - then managed to get that corner, back wall, and ceiling all in primer.

Since I had the time - I installed my LED lighting from Costco. These lights are plug in units - but I just cut the power cord off and hard wired them in and drilled holes and screwed them into the stud in the ceiling. Overall - the lights are way better then the **** CFL that the builder put in the garage. I still have 4 more LED lights that I might put up in the 3rd bay.

It was light out when I took the pics of the lights - I'll have to wait until tonight to see how well they light up the main bay.

Got way more done then I thought that I was going too.

I got the back corner and back of the 3rd bay painted. I also got more of my Gladiator cabinets mounted, and I also got the LED shop lights put up in there as well.

I made a ton of progress this weekend - I hopefully will be able to finish up painting in the next week or two - and then put up the rest of the wall decorations.

I need to find a place for my extra set of wheels for the SS, and find a better place for my drill press.

So I was out in the shop for 6+ hours yesterday - I got the back wall primed and painted - then primed external wall to the third bay - and most of the ceiling in the third bay as well.

Today I plan on finishing the ceiling in the third bay - priming the half wall that splits the third bay from the main bay and need to get started on the wall with the garage door.

I hope to finish up painting either today or tomorrow - we will see.

Then its onto hanging the air hose reel, finding a spot for the drill press, and put it up the last 2 LED shop lights.

So I spent all afternoon and evening out in the shop - man I am almost done!

I got the ceiling and the walls primed - then started painting. I got the walls rolled - but ran out of time and paint to finish trimming it out. I plan on finishing the painting tomorrow morning!

I finished up the painting today and started to put everything in its place.

I cleaned up most of the third bay - I have a few more boxes to go though and I'll put the Corvette where it belongs in the bay. I bring the SS home tomorrow!

Thanks! It has taken me almost a month of priming/painting/moving **** - and getting everything hung up on the wall. Sad thing is - I'm still not done!

I got home late last night and didn't feel like moving cars around - so I pulled the SS into the third bay - it fits... barely!

I have no intention of parking it in there - but I know that it will fit when up on the lift, and if I need more room I can move that work bench out of the way as its on wheels.

I can't tell from the pics (which look great) but are you having any trouble with the dry vs wet paint edges from where you've stopped and started?

Semi-gloss is kind of goofy - if you change your direction mid paint stroke - the glossiness will change direction as well.

As far as dry/wet lines - no I didnt have a problem. When I would come back to start a new section I primed over the edge of where I had left off. Then when I would do my final coat, I would paint over the primer and the older grey paint.

So last night I put up more of the Gladiator Geartrack - and setup and installed my last 30x30 Cabinet - nothing new there.

I also put up the last of my LED shop lights - I ended up mounting them side by side as the attic pull down stairs wouldn't let me mount them end to end.

Since I didn't have an existing light socket to tie into - I ended up splitting the light wiring in the attic and adding a junction box - and running the power cords for the lights into that box. I flipped the switch and all the lights came on with no problem. Now I have plenty of light in the third bay!

I still need to find a spot for my air hose reel - and extension cord reel as well.

I didn't realise until I saw that pic of the SS in the garage that you have an Australian Commodore SS. Very nice of you to support us from Down Under like that.

Beautiful home and glad to see the garage taking shape and coming along nicely.

Did you ever consider having the concrete for the extra parking pad formed and poured to match the back of the third bay instead of about half way ?

I have considered it - but won't be doing that this year. The builder actually added another 2 feet of concrete to the left because they put the gas main in the middle of the pad, and I could not park my truck on it. With the addition width - I swing my truck around the corner but do not really pull deep into it - if that makes sense.

This is my second Holden as I had a G8 GT before the SS. I think the VE Commodore looked better - but the VF has a way better interior.

This might make your day then - this is from my old shop build thread:

So in 2010 - I bought my house and totaled my daily driver all in the same month - a lowly '99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP - nothing special about it besides the fact that it was supercharged.

So I picked up a 2008 Pontiac G8 GT as my new daily driver. These car was built in Australia as a Holden Commodore - and I always liked the Holden brand ever since they brought over the 04-06 GTO/Monaro.

I met 3 guys on the Power Tour in 2010 that imported there cars for the event - 3 HSV Maloo's. 2 of the cars where supercharged and all where RHD.

DSC04523.jpg

After drinking some beers with the Aussie's they gave me a contact for one of there buddies that would ship Aussie parts to the US - so I used the contact and ordered some HSV racing shirts and flags for the garage. Can't be too many garages in the US with Holden Racing flags in them.

Quick update - I got my air hose reel mounted last night - and painted the 2x 11 support board today. It is tied into the studs with lag screws.

I had to go get a 90* fitting for the hose reel today - as I hated the way the supply line was ran in my old shop. I tightened everything up and filled the tires in the Vette - no leaks!

So I wanted to get a few more things up off the floor - I have 2 ladders taking up floor space, and a flat Gladiator Shelf.

I started with the shelf - mounted it the same height as my cabinets on the other wall - and put it above my Gear Locker - and well I absolutely hated it.

So I took the screws and gear track off and mounted it above my TV - therefore making a continuous shelf all the way across the wall.

I also got the ladders up off the floor - I ended up using some of the Gladiator hooks that I had laying around - and put them in the corner along the third bay - its nice to have the floor space back!

I'd suggest getting a little bit of plumbed airline to clean it up a bit. Just a section of flex hose at each end from the tank to hardline and one at the other end. Hardlining will allow you to put in a "Tee" for another quick-connect and a drain to bleed off the moisture too. For the flex hose, hydraulic hose is available at your local farm supply store like TSC or Rural King.

My air compressor and the hose reel are like 2 feet apart - I see no reason to complicate the setup with hardline.

Norb - I have the width to put the MaxJax in the third bay. The depth might be an issue if I want to put the SS up on the lift, but if I need more space I can move the rolling Gladiator work bench out of the way and gain 2 more feet.

Lifting up the Corvette will not be an issue. I ordered my epoxy anchors last week and they finally shipped - so hopefully next weekend I can get everything setup!

I spent a good chunk of the weekend doing some organizing in the garage - and moving stuff into the attic - I also finally finished painting!

I had skipped finishing off painting the beam that ran the width of the main bay. I got it primed and finished coated today.

I still got a few spots to do touch ups - but I'll get to it.

My epoxy anchors should arrived Wednesday - so I should be installing my lift soon!

I see the skid/platform for the compressor is sticking out past the tank. I had that problem and ended up making my own skid by cutting one down to just the size of the base - no sticking out and making cleaning tougher.

Nice work!

Thanks Code Red..

JC23 - that bigger platform allows me to move it around easier.

So my anchors where supposed to arrive today - but the FedEx guy was a replacement driver and had no idea where my address was - so they will get here tomorrow.

In anticipation of the anchors arriving today - I setup my MaxJax towers and measured them out.

I measured for the Corvette first - got the Vette up on my Race Ramp scale ramps - and got the arms under it.

The Vette fit fine - then I pulled the SS in... man that car is a huge *****.

I had to back everything out and move the lift forward by 7". Moving the lift towards the back wall allows me to get around the front of the car - and the garage door won't hit the rear end.

I got the arms under the car - and the lift will fit. I then had to move everything again and verify the Vette will still fit - and it does as its a much shorter car.

While I can fit in front of the SS - there is no way the power cart will fit in front of it.

I am really thinking about wall mounting the power unit as several people have done on here. I just need to find a good spot that won't be in the way. Plus that will be one less thing on the floor.

So tomorrow - hopefully my anchors will arrive and I'll get to start drilling!

That is the PERFECT reason for a 3rd car bay for those lift posts.

I'd love to have my own lift.

Thanks CodeRedZ!

That always bothered me about my old shop - I had to kick a car out anytime I had a project to work on.

This way I can keep all my cars in the shop!

Also - my anchors just arrived - so maybe by tonight I'll have a car in the air!

Thanks Joe!

So my anchors finally came in today - and I got all of the holes drilled for the lift.

The epoxy that came with the anchors has a terrible tip on the end of the dispenser.

It actually dried up inside it before I could finish getting the anchors in - so I took the tip off and mixed it myself and jabbed it down into the holes. I got half my anchors in tonight - Ill do the other side tomorrow.

I thought you might like to know that all of us Down Under are watching a distant (& r/h drive version) of your SS leading our "Great Race" at present. :3gears:

It's early days (lap 63 of 161) but your guys are doing well, compared to my guys (Ford).

Hoping for rain on the mountain, but watching from Sth West Sydney.

Awesome garage and house!

Curious, why did you mount the lights end-to-end? Does the light distribute well to the sides of the garage? What is your ceiling height?

I have the same Costco lights, and a 2.5 car garage. I can only run electric (easily) down the center of the garage (in the main 2 car bay portion), so I was going to space them out from the center, which basically places them directly over the cars and could make the space between the cars dimmer. This end-to-end mounting may work great for me.

Lyndon - The Bathurst 1000 is on my bucket list! I really do need to get down to the land of the Kangaroos!

Garrett - I put the lights end to end so that I could tie into the junction box/light housing that the builder had put into place. This was I wasn't cutting into the house at all.

Is it the best way to optimize the light? Probably not - but its plenty bright in there and sure as hell is way better then the CFL bulbs that the builder had put up there.

So I got the lift anchors installed - all except one of them.

I ran out of the Wej-it epoxy - and now I am trying to find a place to get more.

I used Garage Equipment Supply - and they drop shipped from Danmar and took 2 weeks to get here - I'd like to get more epoxy sooner than that.

Anyone have a good source to get more epoxy?

Thanks.

So after months of work - I finally got the shop "finished"! The replacement epoxy came in last night and I got that last anchor in the ground. I let it dry for 24 hrs and finished the lift install this afternoon!

After getting the car in the air - I think I am going to make a few changes.

First mounting that power cart onto the wall - That thing is annoying trying to get around it when its in front of the car.

Second - I am going to do some research into a high lift garage door conversion - it would be nice to be able to have the car in the air and have the garage door open.

My day ended up freeing up - so I started the big brake kit upgrade on my SS.

I got the SS up in the air and got to work - I got the 6 piston Brembos completed up front. I am waiting for 2 bolts to be able to complete the rear swap. I should be able to knock out one of the rears as I have all the hardware for that side.

Some pics:

Howdy fellow GJ'er and Charlotte resident. Neighborhood (and more importantly garage) look great. Love that about Charlotte, never seem to be a shortage of new places to build. Which end of the city are you on? Looks to be North by the amount of land / openness.
