I'd love to visit the Marine Corps Museum in VA near Quantico.

Have plans to see the Air Force Museum in OH this fall while attending a nephew's wedding.
We went by the museum in Quantico last year coming back from an out of state funeral off I95, IIRC. I told the wife, we will be going there one day.

I assume the wedding is near Dayton ? North a short drive is the Neil Armstrong museum and if you are near Columbus, Mott's Military Museum is a nice place to check out.

Thanks Mike.
Believe it or not, looking at that picture thinking about those brothers gives me goosebumps.

Same Eric. I am not from a military family nor have any personal ties to the military. HOWEVER, I am extremely grateful to those who serve and have served in our military, armed forces and law enforcement. Their paths have allowed me and my family to live in the greatest country on the planet and benefit from their sacrifices and that is not something I take lightly. I too get a bit emotional about such things when I see them and that poster is one that hit me hard.

I'm a little curious about the recruiting poster, as a Sgt. I would have expected more ribbons, one appears to be a bronze star, though he is an expert marksman so I wouldn't dream of saying that to his face or from 400 yards away. :)

The Iwo Jima picture is a stark reminder of those brave men in a tough battle we all should appreciate.

Middle one is a GCM, Good Conduct Medal. Don't do anything stupid for 3 years and everybody gets one. Last one looks like an Expeditionary and first one possibly Navy unit citation.

Ribbons are ranked most important (highest value/regard) top row, closest to the heart and work their way down. Some of them have changed slightly over time or are period/era given.

Beginning of February, I ordered a new bottom panel for the wife's O/H door. It finally came in and I picked it up yesterday morning.

As I was swapping the panel out, I noticed the vertical rails being rusty ..not a little bit but yeah.

KIMG2498.JPG

I made the trip back to the door dealer, picked up some new rails. I made the decision if I was doing one, I'm doing both vertical rails. While I was at it, if hers are this bad, mine are too.

I came home with 4 new rails and about $140 less in the wallet.

KIMG2499.JPG

Lesson learned, keep the rails slightly off the floor. I cut 3/8" off the bottom.

Secondly, for those not in the rust belt, this is what salt/brine does. Our vehicles had tracked snow and salt in the garage.

How long ago did you build the garage with the rusted out door rails?

Can you place a piece of composite material in the gap to prevent critter in filtration?

Are the shop doors touching the concrete also?
I built the house garage in 2004. So it have about 21 years of use.

They were touching the floor, the new ones had about 3/8 trimmed off them. They are off the floor now.

I'm sure it doesn't help that the clothes dryer vent is right outside the wife's O/H door up wind. It's constantly also getting blasted with that warm damp vented air. . . and whatever else if getting pulled out of the clothes. I had already noticed some extra rust on the galvanized metal of the door by the vent.

In the end, I'm sure my mistake of letting rails touch the floor with melting snow/salt caused the issue. 20 years from now, I'd rather not be in this house and would be 75. . .

I must say, those new springs have way more tension than the old one I took off.

I tried to use a rope and pull the spring up, which didn't work. A pry bar then a larger pry bar that worked after some blocking for leverage.
KIMG2405.JPG

You can see the old spring compared to the new spring in place.
KIMG2406.JPG
Since my longest pry bar is only about 25" long, I decided it was time to get a longer one. On order is a 45" Channellock version. It should be here in a week or so.
Back on March 1st I order a 45" Channellock prybar and it was due out in about week-10 days. That date got moved out with no expected due date. I attempted to cancel at the end of March and was unable to cancel. About 3 days later, still no delivery date and still couldn't cancel it. I did an online chat with an Amazon rep, finally got it cancelled and ordered through HD.KIMG2512.JPG

KIMG2514.JPG

As you can see or saw in a previous picture of the new box layout, I keep my prybars in the back of the hammer drawer. Obviously, it's a good thing I chose the 56" box as this bar wouldn't fit in the smaller 42" box.

Eric, when I was working in Alliance, NE, the dealer had a Mach 1 in that color(on your poster) with a dealer installed Ford Performance supercharger setup. It was very hard not to trade my newly acquired (at the time) F150 for it .

Now that the wife has a red one, I guess I got that itch scratched.

With the engine out, now is the time to do the work and install a big bore kit and/or turbo...

I was looking through pictures on one of the PCs at the fire station one day. I came across pictures from a MVA where a red Mach 1 (2003) went off the road and up the embankment in front of some houses. As I looked at the picture, I thought man, wouldn't that have been awesome if it was an uninsured car still sitting in the impound yard on one of the local wrecker guys.

Big bore kit and turbo ? Nah, just want a good stock running cart. . . . :spit:

After reversing the direction of the motor and bolting it back in, it spins the correct direction.
KIMG2533.JPG

However, applying some tension manually on the belt, the motor just stalls out. I'm cutting bait on this thing. I'll keep it around for parts for the other one, just in case.

But as far this thing sanding anything, that dream has set sail. The sander is unbolted as is the motor from the stand. I'm going to look for something else. Maybe something commercial used or just get a HF unit.

KIMG2534.JPG
I don't need it alot but I'd like something for metal. I just don't want to be using the other one for steel and get particles in any wood projects.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out. I see all kinds of sanders on Facebook Market Place all the time like that for under $100! So just keep an eye out for it on there. And of course Craigslist. Could you also just find another 3/4 HP motor to put on that one?

I could probably find another motor but at what cost ? New ? $$ Used ? Life left ?

I found this last night, for sale at a liquidator for $120. Basically same thing that I have and still has factory motor on it. Note teh included tote, there's a small set of arbor plates in it.

So I spent more time the other day working on the belt sander. Another member suggested that it was set up for 240V but wired for 120V. Honestly, I couldn't say but it was worth looking at it.

Needless to say, that member was correct. It was set up wrong for what I need. I never looked at that as I didn't put this motor on it as it was on it when I bought it.

Since I was going this far, I felt a new cord was in order. The old one was getting dry rotted.

After some electrical work, I bolted everything back together. Fired it up, it runs but I have another issue. The 6x48 sanding belt just runs off the left side. I tried to make some adjustments and it's not helping. I got far enough to take the top roller off to check the bearings and shaft. I wanted to see if anything is out of whack.

As I left Saturday, the top half was tore apart.

We had plans for the evening.. . . Some 80's music.

Asia featuring John Payne at a small venue.

Well , it comes a point in time to cut bait. The Cman belt sander has reached that point.

It has been replaced with a new to me unit from HGR. KIMG2552.JPG

Here's the original ad I found for it

Screenshot_20250420-125035.png

This is the tag that was on it yesterday.

KIMG2551.JPG

The 0125 inventory # indicates January 2025, then an actual inventory date on Jan 15th

That's a steal for $200, good buy will come in handy for all your projects
Yeah, I thought so.. this is going to live a dedicated metal fab life. I'd like like to fasten it to the Cman mobile base.

The plan would be to add a shelf underneath for belt storage and a small cheap shop vac to collect the metal dust.

The suckage is strong with this one!

:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:
Thanks Larry. Wife asked me yesterday on the way home if it was worth the drive back... yes was my answer. It's about hour and 45 minutes one way.

However, I wanted to go to the HD halfway there to pick up some in stock items.

Once the frame work was in place, I cut some plywood to form the shelf. In this process, I found out the legs weren't bolted in perfectly square. However, it does sit ride flat on the floor. So I left well enough alone.

2 pieces of 1/2" plywood for the shelf. Glued, screwed and edges brad nailed in place.KIMG2570.JPG

I wired in a switch and outlet so both the vac and sander come on when in use. I don't need anymore metal dust floating around than I already have.
KIMG2571.JPG

A PVC fitting, vac hose adapter and fernco made connection easy.
