No plans for the old gate. Other than the tree damage, it's not in bad shape for an 8 1/2 year old Ohio tailgate.

I could probably sell it or stash it away. It's too nice to scrap it.

Sorry, lost my picture and had to get another one.

I grabbed the Plano box for those plastic fasteners I bought for my tailgate. As I was making labels, I knew I batteries were getting low but doggone, out of label tape.

Eric, you are quite the example of a redneck (Texas term of endearment). Nothing you won’t take on. Nothing you can’t resolve in that home/garage you have created. Very much admire you work ethic.

You absorbed the last two weeks of spare moments beginning to current state. Really enjoyable reading.
Organized your home/garage environment, but not OCD. Great place to past time & avoid the clacking hens as you said.

Very educational to watch a hard-working son of a gun with a clear idea of how you want to spend your time. Shucks, I had never seen a brat drop before. I have a young airman I know serving at Dyess AFB asking me finance questions. I intend to steer him to your thread as a practical resource/money manager I admire.

Thank you for your service to your community & country. I once had a jeep & a driver to stay out front of a mechanized mortar platoon.

Awww gee, you're going to make me blush.

Seriously, thanks for the compliment. I try to take a common sense approach to most everything.

Granted, I realize there are times when good enough will do for now but you have to understand upfront, it might cost you more in the long run but ..... sometimes, it is what you to do.

Got the new label tape in the label maker and ran a couple of labels. I gathered the few other plastic fasteners I had to fill in the case.

Eric, you may want to check Amazon for push pin assortments. They have very large assortments for a decent price. I have various kits that really come in handy. Parts store single items are expensive as hell!

Probably true but I needed them now to get my tailgate back on.

I'm not completely sold on Amazon stuff, a lot of China knock off stuff. I bought 2 packs of zip tie mounts for the speaker wire in my garage. After about 6 months, every one of them had come apart. All the peel off backing said 3M but I doubt they were.

I didn't get to finish posting last night as we had a Valentine supper, followed by a trip to Menards for a new sump pump, then installing it....no pics.

Due to the attic access, I can't put an 8' fixture here so the plan is adding another 4' fixture. I took the cover off because I couldn't remember how I wired the lights.
KIMG0307.JPG

These 4' fixtures will be coming down. 1 will get moved to the side shown above.
KIMG0308.JPG
I'm now realizing that I miss counted fixtures as the one getting doubled up won't be moving to the house garage.

While I had the covers off and bulbs out, I decided to clean them off. The 2 bulbs on the right are clean and left ones are dirty.

KIMG0310.JPG

And the dust build up on the covers. One clean, one dirty.

Ahh.... A romantic Valentine's day - installing a sump pump.

Mine was replacing the battery in my truck after we got stuck in a parking lot earlier in the day.

My valentines was replacing (or trying to replace) the master cylinder in the wife's truck. I got home from work, pulled the old one out, went to set the new one in the vice to bench bleed it, and realized they sent me the wrong one. Off to the Auto parts store to get the right one... and by the time I got home I said screw it, and made the wife and I steaks for dinner. I finished the truck project last night and she's happy.

Since I miscounted how many 4' fixtures I needed, I started looking for another one. I found Menards had very similar lights and $10 cheaper. So the 3 that I bought at Home Depot went back and I went to Menards.

Total with tax, these 4 from Menards were $9 cheaper than the 3 from HD.

On driving to get them ?

My local Menards and HD are about a mile and a half apart.

I had 2 other things to return to Menards, so I was going to the area.

A quick look at my receipts yesterday, returned 2 things to Menards, bought a few other things and the 4 lights. Down the road to HD, returned 3 lights. I came out $5 ahead and 1 more light than before. . . . Total $30-32 w/ tax.

The drive over to the area was basically a wash, I needed a fourth light anyways. My time, it was a day off, a payday when I normally run errands.

Before I get back to the light project, I had a little side track. Electric supply shop next to the fire station had a few soft wood pallets sitting off to the side.

KIMG0325.JPG

Pulled them apart, removed the nails and cut them down to size.

I started prepping the lights to get hung up. Romex connector in the center. I added a ground wire for easier connection.
KIMG0328.JPG
Flipped the end sockets and screwed the plywood stand offs on.

What is your reason for the standoffs?
Just to create an air gap to help keep the ballast from getting hot and help prolong their life.

Years ago, we had some 8' HO Fixtures at the station. They came with stand offs and the guy installing them didn't think they were needed. Long story short, after a few years, when the ballast would get hot, the light would kick off. Once it cooled down, back on they would come.

So, for peace of mind and as precaution, I figured they would not hurt.

Thank you for the clarification. I was sure you had a logical reason, but I couldn't imagine what it was. I have been converting all my lights to LED with no ballast involved.

The rest of my lights are the same set up. So on top of that, I want to keep them all the same.

I'm not sure if the drop in retro fit bulbs work without ballast so I kept them the same.
