Re: 4,by four,for four

I just acquired some new license plates. These are from Illinois, and appear to be dealer plates. Most of them have the same number, year after year. I also have some 666 to add to the collection. Check out the "In GOD we Trust"
This was at a car show, man that's a lot of doors

You have been holding out on us BugThug! You are making some good progress on the lights and you had a great score on the license plates. I have always had a great time going to figure 8 races, they are a blast to see for both the racing and for the people watching. We started betting quarters on each race, everyone starts with $2 or so in quarters and you pick a car at the beginning of each heat, gives you someone to cheer for if you don't know any of the drivers.

Re: 4,by four,for four

Yes sir, They arrived about 8:p.m.. I think they drove from Arkansas to Olathe, Kansas. Then did a tour at the truck store, LMC truck parts. They said bought about 150 pounds of truck parts.

Rian and Martin have left the building and heading to Oklahoma City by the side road 77 instead of I35. I guess they want to spend a little time on Route 66. It was nice to meet the two lads in person. I think they enjoyed themselves, and even ate some Puerto Rican food. My wife even enjoyed having them around.?

That is awesome, too bad I wasn't available to come visit with them as well that would have been great to get to meet some other fellow GJ members. Keep it up, I'll be able to get back to mine in the next week or so hopefully.

Well I had to go buy some more paint from Sherwin Williams, I'm getting a lot of money invested in the floor. The weather is getting ready to act like fall so warm days will be short now.
I'm trying to put some pictures up but not sure if they will load. Some reason they load different now that I updated my computer to the 10. If not I'll figure a way to down size them. OK, not working:mad:

Hopefully you can get the pictures to work soon. As for the weather, it has been amazing out the past few weeks. This morning was the perfect temp for me with a slight breeze (~25mph), I was hesitant to leave for work. Enjoy the weather for me would ya?

Re: 4,by four,for four

well I've been busy, just don't seem to get much done. I've been putting up insulation 1 1/2 Styrofoam. It is easy but a lot of measuring to get it to fit tight into the 2 X 6 stringers on the barn.
Had the help of my brother in law, cleaning the floor and doing most of the painting. This is a Sherwin Williams paint, its a 2 part paint. I have used 2 other types of paint on garage floors, not sure which one I would recommend.
The SW paint needed a good 3 coates. They recommended a 3/8 nap but it looks like waves of the ocean, and was hard to roll out without leaving roller marks. Went with a 1/4 nap and it seemed to help. I really like the color but it is dark. The color reminds me of a Texaco or Sinclair colors.
The 30W L.E.D's, I have about 30 put up on the ceiling and along the top of the 2 X 12 around the roof. I only have about 6 of them going, they put out a very nice light but I may not need so many. I'm still experimenting with the position and the spacing of them.

Any more pics of how your floor came out?

Any more pics of how your floor came out?
I need to take some newer pictures of the floor in the big barn. I've been filling in the cut lines and sanding them down to make them smooth. I've spent a lot of time down on my knees working on that floor. Its been way to cold to paint, but its ready when the weather warms back up.
Thanks for asking, and checking out my little world.
If I win the lottery tonight, 900 million+, I might have enough money to finish my barn.
I seem to have problems with my electrician, he's been MIA for about 5 months. Having a hard time finding someone that will finish running the wire. Well hopefully a new year will fix old problems? :dunno:

Re: 4,by four,for four

If your electrician hasn't come back out by the time it warms up I may just have to come out to give you a hand with the wiring on your lights. I know how tough it is to work out in the cold right now but I'm making a little progress here and there as time goes on. It would be great to have an insulated shop or even an attached garage that doesn't get below 40 or so. Perhaps with the upcoming $1.3 billion lottery we can both have our shops insulated and heated. :)

I 've thought about asking you on the wiring. When you said you had wired in a generator as a backup. I figured if you are smart enough to do that, my straight forward wiring wouldn't be a problem. I'll send you a pm.

Re: 4,by four,for four

I replied to your PM. Also just because I have done some wiring so far all I've done is simple point to point wiring nothing too difficult. I'm sure your lights will be pretty simple as well so I should be able to lend a hand at some point over the next couple weeks.

I'm going to test a picture to see if it works. This is a plate that my friend Rian(Grizz1963) had a friend from the Philippines send me. These are getting hard to come by like so many of them are. Love the plate.:thumbup::thumbup:

Re: 4,by four,for four

Don, I'll answer for Herb on the lights, I was able to make it up there last week and will again tonight to lend him a hand. I wired in two more last week and had them fired up. I was also able to get 4 or so wired up but didn't connect them to the main run just yet. Tonight I should be able to get all of them over the concrete connected with a little luck.

I'll say this about the lights, they are very bright and only draw .25 amps per fixture so theoreticaly you could put 64 of those little buggers on a 20 amp circuit and still be in compliance. 64 of those in any shop would make it brighter than a noon days sun in July in southern California. :rocker:

That Route 66 stuff looks good. Might look for some for my place. I'm sure I drove part of Route 66 back in the 80's, :headscrat, but that was a lot of alcohol ago....

And as for pictures - I've just been through 2 days of drama getting them to work for my thread, but I've got it now. Ask if you want some help there. :3gears:

Re: 4,by four,for four

The Wayman sign I bought at a garage sale, its made of some kind of wood, and it looks like it was cut out by water jet or some kind of pattern maker. It is about 4' X 4', not real heavy. Its a Amoco (old Standard OIL) station that went out of business after the owner died.
The pole is a 2 sided gas station sign pole, about 12' tall.
The L E D's are what I'm using as my overhead lights in the barn. They put out very nice bright light as cheap as you can get. Don't make noise in the cold weather either.
The green is on the west side of the barn, this section I plan on using as the area to do the tear down and repair of my cars. Its insulated and will have a roll up door 10' X 10'. and a walk thru door. Hopefully I should have done some time this summer.

Herb, Those are some really nice Route 66 signs and they will look great in the new shed once completed.

As for the lights, I'm just glad to be able to help you out it really isn't too much trouble at all. I can attest to the quality of the light they put out, it has a very nice color and is very bright but not like a spot light, it is a nice broad flood of light.

Hell yeow! the sooner the better:) I did a little work on it yesterday. I put part of the new wiring harness under the hood. Working on the headlight buckets now, it seems the adjustment screws are all cracked (plastic type of material). I can buy a kit for about $20.00 but they need more parts to really fix it right. I might have to buy all 4 buckets. They are having the big swap meet in Wichita next week end, so they will have some new parts there I can buy and save on shipping. Hopefully I'll get the car drivable in the next month or so?

This will be in October again, not sure what route etc, but landing plans include St Louis Missouri.

I honestly have these images in my head a few times a week.

Of course the red truck is a long way from done, so I have to hold off on any other monkey business........

BUT..........

This is many sleepless nights worth of 1960's metal.

You look fabulous in that old Chevy. I forgot you took so many pictures. Don't know what it is about a 60 Chevy, but they just don't make a lot of parts for them. Like the ignition switch, head light buckets, and others. I had to use 61 and 58 parts, but they work OK.
You think October? not far off. Hope you can make it by again, hope to have the Chevy running by then:)

Re: 4,by four,for four

I have been working a little on the barn. Got half the lights wired up and man I love the bright lights the new L E D's put out, can't wait to have the whole barn wired up. I just have one receptacle for juice, good thing its a 4 gang outlet.
Its getting warmer, so I need to get the floor done and get on to working on the hearse. JB is gonna want it out of his barn soon, and I want to drive it. The crazy thing is I cannot find the big ole 6V battery I bought for it. I usually don't loose much stuff, but this has left the building like ELVIS.

Re: 4,by four,for four

Good news is where the hearse is in my shop it isn't in the way too bad. If you give me another week or two I'll have my blast cabinet ready and can refurbish all of your front end parts I already have waiting for you. I'm excited for you to get that car up and running again. Crazy idea, but have you thought about changing the layout in the back to make it more limousine style rather than hearse? Then you could rent it out and drive seniors to prom. :)
