Maybe if you have served or do serve, you will be familiar with this kit.
It is a mil spec mechanic's kit, built for ground troops in our military.
I believe Craftsman and Armstrong both have contracts out for these. This one is however primarily SK tools and Crescent, all USA mind you.
The wrenches and sockets and ratchets are SK
and the screwdrivers and adj wrenches are Crescent
They come in a crushproof, pressure proof, waterproof case, that is kinda like a pelican case, it has got wheels and a handle like a suitcase almost.
Every tool has a cut out in the foam for it, to ease FOD and so the tools dont shift.
I picked up a couple of them from a soldier who was transfering and thought that I would share some pictures.

Here is the link to the Armstrong contract.

They are the ultimate truck tool kits, alittle bulky but I found it to be great for Pik n pull junk yards, all you need in one kit.
They also are prefect for trail kits, if any one else has a sidexside or ATV
Enjoy.....

I'm sure his old unit would like to know where the government's tool kits went to.

These kits are great and they have come a long way from the lowest bidder type kits made up of Kal and other lesser known makers. I've seen SK, Crescent, Craftsman and Snap on versions. The current Pelican case that houses the kit is tough to say the least. The Armstrong kits are sweet, especially if you have the add on module with ratcheting wrenches and deep sockets.

Perhaps, but the April 2006 build date and designs on the decal in picture #3 sure look like Government emblems, contract data, and an NSN but, I don't have the set in front of me to inspect it more closely.:wtf: He may have bought them with a Government credit card but, I'm not sure about his own dime unless he was talking about the taxes he pays...

You need to post these photos as your roadside repair kit in the General Garage discussion forum for a chance to win the Montezuma tool box.

You can buy the kits off the internet. Just because they have NSN's and U.S. Government on them doesn't mean they are stolen. They are just an off the shelf kit that manufacturers make. Kind of like buying surplus but not surplus. Don't know if that makes any sense.

We have that kit on the range for range maintenance, misc repairs, etc. They are nice kits. We have another kit that's similar for weapon repairs/maintenance as well.

That is the latest version of the General Mechanics tool set. Buying something like this from a soldier? He bought it with his own money? Um, OK, if that is what you want to believe, it's your tax dollars too.

But hey, if you want the very best, see if he can get you a SATS, Standard Automotive Tool Set. This would be really hard to explain how it got in your garage! For you Army types, the SATS replaces the old number 1 and number 2 common and supplimental sets. Check it out: http://www.almc.army.mil/ALOG/issues/JanFeb07/tool_set.html

that does seem perfect for the junkyards - you can see right away if you left a tool behind

I wonder where they got American made vise grips for them.Old stock?

I can't discern the marking in the kit above, but in kits currently shipping out? They didn't, they're Spanish made Bahco.

Wow, a walk-in tool box. That would definitely be hard to expain to the neighbors and the HOA. Maybe I could put one of those pods labels on the side of it. Placed on its own truck, it would be the ultimate roadside service kit. You're right though, the SATs is a vast improvement over previous tool kits. I'm glad to see the Army is bringing its tool kits into the 21st century and fixing vehicles further forward.

Hey, why so defensive, relax! My way of saying that I've been in the Army and involved with maintenance for 30 years and have seen a case or two of soldiers and civilians selling government property, wouldn't be the first time. But if you say that's not the case, OK, we all believe you. Several other people here would like to buy one too legally and you saw the receipts. So where can we get one?

Lol I can ship it overseas if you pay for it and shipping ! :lol_hitti
lol I don't even want to think about how much that would cost! And then another 12.5% GST on top of that thanks to customs... yeah, would be pretty pricey!

I'll add it to my list of things to look for when we find ourselves in the states [wonders what NZ Military uses though]... that and one of them blue point chain drive wrench thingies, and an order or ten from Mike Wren :D

Really $$ expensive, but cool none the less

A few people expressed interest in buying one of mine, if there is anyone else interested, let me know and then I can start a Classifieds thread
