Kaizen foam organisers...

So over on Old Iron Farmers thread there has been talk of polishing copper pipes as we do...

Then 1/2 Cup suggested we look over at Matts Obsessed Garage thread. But then I found the pre cursor Temporary Garage thread and when I got to page 11 I found this Kaizen foam organiser stuff to line draws and use as cut outs for tools etc.

So that led me to finding it here in Aussie land from Timbecon

So now I have a couple of the 30mm thick Kaizen sheets headed my way to try out.

I'm not really sure who to blame for that purchase :dunno:

GB

I am not to blame. I'm innocent. I don't even organize my drawers (other than cutlery, of course). 1/2 made me polish the pipes.

I may have to try some foam:lol_hitti

I've started buying insulated doors and they just can't be beat. Good job insulating yours posthumously.

I'm very late to the party but I'm here. I really like how you used the craft paper to keep all the phone parts organized. I will be stealing that idea when parts exceed the cupcake pan.

Great result!

Gb, it appears that the insulation is doing it's job. That's great. 10* F is substantial.

A good result in temp reduction. Well done!

GB, well done..

Thanks for the comments and for checking in guys. I had forgotten to mention that the underfloor insulation that has been in for a year now has also made a massive difference to the comfort levels in the house. No drafts or anything. The acid test for that one does not need fluke meters. I simply had no complaints, comments or otherwise from wifie that it was cold :)

Shorty I had to go back myself there and see what I had done. When I get 5 mins I'll go back and fix up the earlier pics as I was doing the default upload thing before I worked out how to do them more efficiently.

In the last day or so I think I have found another favourite website. Been following the obsessed garage thread and felt bad that my Hilux and wifie's Camry have been neglected for so long, so that led me off into car detailing world and I ended up finding an Australian supply site that has lots of goodies.

https://www.carcareproducts.com.au

Be warned though that visiting will result in you ending up with a beginners detailing orbital polisher kit, and maybe a set of microfibre cloths that you never though you had to have before either.

So today, still guilt ridden - I did an internal clean and detail on the Hilux and gave it a half decent scrub - actually both our cars were filthy outside. Both need paint rectification and my roof is going to need some attention to fix the various stone chips that have now started to turn to rust spots.

So that diverted my attention from adjusting the garage door that I should have been doing today.

Cheers GB :3gears:

Grumblebums,
I buy most of my car detailing products from carcareproducts as well.
If you look back I think the first page in my thread you will see my cabinets full with car products and micro fibre towels.
It becomes an expensive little hobby.
They also do detailing courses which I will be doing in January 2017.

:lol_hitti I even know what a clay bar is now. Yeah the courses look interesting, seem good value too for the price but then I thought you probably get to visit the shop afterwards which will be more expensive.

Enablers all of them enablers I tell you. LOL

Well you do have a nice Tacoma that needs taking care of

...And yep woke up early this morning. I was working about 3 hours drive north from home today in Singleton/Newcastle. Went up last night and had a few cold ones with my brother that lives up that way. Been a loooong day.

GB, as payback for sending us to the devil's car care site , I suggest you research "paint correction". If you look carefully at the paint surface on your vehicles, they have some amount of "orange peel" from the factory. You can fix this now totally unacceptable surface with fine sandpaper before you start the buffing process.

You may think of 600-grit as fine sandpaper but you really need to use finer grits. After you have flattened the surface with 1000- or 1500-grit and step through2000-, 2500- and 3000-grit, you'll want to save yourself a bit of buffing time by using 4000- or 5000-grit sandpaper as a final step. You can buy one 150mm (6") 4000-grit disk for your Dual Action sander for around $5 and that should take care of one panel on your vehicle. The Sandpaper Man  can fix you up with the all the finer grits, including the 4000-grit ones:

You're welcome!

I never click those spam links and never go to auctions and always floss.

Yes be very prudent before clicking any links on the web. Lot's of nasties out there. Flossing is good :D:D:D

Nice results on the door insulation, and I like your scientific approach.

Lol, thanks. Working well so far, certainly more comfortable in the garage.

Thanks for finding that site Bob, I'm anticipating some sanding in the future. The fender flares on the Hilux really need redoing and I think I'll have a crack at it myself. At the least it's an excuse to get some spray equipment if nothing else ;)

One thing that I notice on cars more and more is that candy peel look.

Well the week is finally over and I'm definitely looking forward to some RnR and hopefully even some QST.

Take care fellas and thanks for reading.

GB, to you and yours all the best for Christmas and the new year:thumbup:

QST...ahhh the serenity...

Regards

Thanks 1/2 Cup, all the best to you and your family also. xmas

So this is the result of visiting the carecareproducts website. These are basically two of the kits they sell, to the left is the "enthusiast microfibre kit", and the right is the "DAS6 plus orbital polisher kit". The number 4 bottle was an add on and is a synthetic sealer that is an alternate to wax if I've understood that much. Also grabbed a clay bar set which I'm keen to see the results of.

Comes with this nifty chart to tell you what microfibre cloth to use for what purpose....I guess the nearest bit of rag won't cut it anymore :dunno:

Hey GB, I will get up to speed with your thread when I get a chance, but for now I'll just wish you a Merry Christmas and happy new year.

Merry christmas Mark, good to see you are still around. Hope you get some QST soon. xmas xmas

Kaizen foam testing out...

During the week I received some sheets of Kaizen Foam.

Couldn't resist trying it out so tonight I picked a draw to start on. Thought the measuring tape draw might be a good candidate.

View media item 66113
Cut a section to fit the draw...

View media item 66114
Spent some time getting a layout...

View media item 66115
Thought setting the cut depth to the layer thickness needed might have helped

View media item 66116
About 2 hours later...it's pretty fiddly, but looks good...

View media item 66117
I thought the layers may have peeled back much easier, seems to be pretty uneven in the bottoms so I'll have to look into see if there is a fix for that to tidy them up.

GB: new detailing STUFF looks great and i know there are enough members that make their cars and trucks shine like they are in a show so wondering if it might be time for one of them (or you) to host a DETAILING 101 thread. just the posts on your thread about CLAY BAR and fine grit sandpaper are a good start. it might even improve our screw clocking and plumbing pipe shining.

love the new drawer, but now you have to get rid of or find a spot for the stuff you had in it before. good luck with that.

Merry Christmas and here's to a great 2017

All the best to you and your family Grumblebum.
Your draw came up a treat.
I got the same Microfibre box about a year ago. Great value for money. Mine came in a plastic box.
The Mothers clay bar works great. I got mine from Supercheap about a year ago. It is unbelievable how smooth the paint on the car becomes once you clay bar it.
As I cleaned both my cars on a regular basis when I clay bar I use the spray wax as a lubricant and it waxes at the same time. Just a tip I was taught.

OMG - just OMG. Can I book the XJR in - we'll do it together (until I get too tired).

You really went the whole hog didn't you?

Well, I hope you have fun with it. It is quite addictive, but then comes the day, 2 days after finishing the car, that it rains while you're out in it. And that hurts - I can tell you.

Looking forward to the results of this.

Thanks for sharing the foam. I was wondering if it was layered and it is. Like others, the Tahoe sure could use a spa day in your garage. If the GJ B&B was rented, we could leave are vehicles with you and go tour your beautiful country.

May your Christmas be peaceful and filled with love and the New Year be a time of rebirth.

There are a few guys that I read the threads of that are pro's IMO with the car detailing and some even have dedicated websites to that affect, I'm thinking of Dubber, 55cadillacking, and Money2536.

Yep I forgot to put up a pic of the stuff left over from that draw. If I get a chance in the coming days I'll do the top draw which is the main **** collector (we all have them).

Two hours? Holy cow! But I have to admit, it looks awesome. Merry Christmas to your family and you.

I hope it's just a practice working with it thing and the next ones is a little faster, just depends on what the cutout shape is like and if you need to do multi layers is where the time goes...

GB, now you are really setting the bar way to high, your drawers look fantastic..

Regards

Thanks 1/2 cup, I am humbled but am only attempting to follow what others have done here in our little world of GJ. I picked that draw because it's the one that I'm in all the time and everything moves about in there when you open and close it which bugs me.

Thank you 1/2 cup. Now I don't have to say it.

:lol_hitti thanks Dan.

Holy cow I wish I lived closer I would bring the Blazer over for a quick detailing job :lol_hitti
I have OCD and this just awesome

Thanks BF, I don't think I'm going to be able to buff out the dents where the front gate suddenly jumped out and hit wifies car though. That will need a different approach.

Hey, a quick line to say, "please be safe and happy over the festive season"

Thanks mate, and likewise to yourself and family. xmas

Thanks Aaron, yes I got the plastic tub with it, just took the cloths out for the photo. There is also a bag with the orbital polisher but I haven't got to play with it yet.

And I just saw the price of the mothers clay bar kit in the Boxing Day sale junk mail for supercheap, think it was 25% off. Looking forward to trying it out.

You will have to do a write up of the clinic you are doing in Jan.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Thank you sir, I see you have got the lift installation at the top of your "next available Saturday" list now.

Lol, the kits are only basic kits too. Did you see the prices on some of that other gear ? I'm hoping to bring the paint back up a bit as the main goal. The roof is likely needing a respray due to the stone chips (lots of years on Appin road with the coal trucks)

XJR hey, hmmm might get some practice in on some more lowly vehicles first :dunno:

:pimpflash Rian thanks, you can't beat a decent measuring implement. I have a little space left to hopefully squeeze in an imperial one too - since joining GJ I've been using inches quite often. Might see if I can scrounge up an old Stanley one as they were pretty good.

Grumblebum,
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and yours!

Thank you Jon, to you and your family also.

Nice work on the foam drawer organisers! Merry Christmas to you and your family GB.

Thanks mate, same to you also.

Shorty, the glue in the layers seems to be harder than the HDPE so it doesn't separate as easy as one would expect - but I'll try heating up something to flatten out the base.

Now I half met a guy the other day that can manage the vehicle import and compliance work for driving over here :lol_hitti

Thanks to everyone for reading and commenting, greatly appreciate it. To all my GJ friends I wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas.

xmas xmas xmas

Cheers GB.

GB: you'd be a PERFECT HOST for a DETAILING 101 thread and here are my thoughts.

1) you have the materials and the desire to improve your skills
2) you know many members that do have the skills that you might persuade to post their thoughts and their skills
3) you are an AUSSIE so you can put some cool vocabulary to the thread
4) you are a positive person and a great GJ member

ok back to your Christmas and just my promoting cause one day I know i'm goiong to more than just wash my car here or take it to the car wash. especially since i put in a hot water faucet out the front of my house about 30 years ago.

Thanks for the encouragement drives, we'll see what's happens on the thread front ;) Hot water at the front of your garage was a good idea.

Today is going to be a bit of a rest day here, everyone is knackerred from the chaos that goes with Christmas, Santa delivered me an air hose reel so I hope to see what fittings I have to go test that out and otherwise potter around.

Hope you have had a good day, looks like you should just be finishing lunch now. xmas

Just stopping by to say Merry Christmas GB! Eh!

Thanks slim, I trust you have had a good day also, merry Xmas. Xmas
