GB, the tool boxes tour dad made are just awesome.

I have similar issues with storing stuff as well it is a constant battle around here let me tell you.

Once you have things sorted your dump bin would be relatively easy to manage, I have a dump tub that holds all the real odd stuff as well as a another tub just for metal off cuts.

Doing well..

I had issues getting this photo in post last night.

In this image cabinet on other wall to right. Raise cabinets on the back wall to match. Then add another one above the monitor. My thought is matchs and gives more from work surface to bottom of cabinets.

Ah ok I think I'm with you. Those cabinets are 610mm (2' or so) above the bench now. If I move them up higher I dare say they will be too high to get into, I already need to get a step to get to the top shelf of them.

To the left of the shorter cabinet I'll make new cabinet/shelving to go to that corner and wrap around, I'll go try to edit a photo to show what I'm thinking.

Cheers GB.

Thanks 1/2 Cup, a dump tub is a good idea too for larger things, I should be able to free up a black tub for something like that.

I have an off cut bucket that I keep in the little plant room under the house, actually need to get in there and sort that room out too now that I think about it as it's become the dumping ground for misc building materials.

Cheers GB.

What is the brand name on the red/black parts bins in post photo 962? I like the style of them.
I am not finding much unless it is $$$$high priced here.

Thanks

Great organisational skills, GB, very inspiring!

How is the roller door insulation going? My dad is wanting to insulate his panel door and I was thinking of recommending the same stuff you use, since he can just duck down to Bunnings to grab it.

I don't remember anything about the cut off saw that you are restoring.... Did I miss something? (I've been meaning to ask that for days, but haven't gotten time :dunno: :dunno:).

Did I inspire you into something?

Lyndon
Yep, still watching on. :hellobye: :hellobye: :hellobye:

Thanks mate, yep I'm happy with it. It takes the baking heat sensation away for sure in the garage. He will need to get some foil tape also to tape the seams up otherwise it will sag and untuck (I have done only a test bit still need to do the rest of the door). Also check if he has the extra stiffeners on the panels, I need to get an extra one as it helps keep it tucked in.

If it's a double garage door 1 bag is enough and there will be a couple of meters left over.

Another thing to look at is door seals to seal around the outside edges (face of the door outside) to stop the draft and subsequent heat blowing in. I've had a quick look but haven't found much yet.

Cheers GB

Looks great Rod. But maybe Lyndon should come over and help you out with this one. I've heard his "draw" organizing skills are unparalleled.:dunno::lol_hitti

Nice work tidying and organising things! I need to get in and sort mine out a little better.

Thanks Hewey, and to think I was just about to get the cars in too before a clutter breakout happened with the post Christmas cleanup. :(

Lol, yep Dan we'll get Lyndon down at some point. But when it cools down for a few days, looking at a bit of a stint of 38+ (100F+) days here.

Rod, send some of that our way. We are currently 5*F(-15C). Are you starting to notice the loss of daylight there yet? There is actually a glow in the sky here right now (6:25 AM) Sunrise at 7:13 and sunset at 4:25 PM. We've gained almost 20 minutes.

So yesterday I was helping a client sus out requirements at a new office he is moving into when something caught my eye. A 3 draw workbench he had sitting in there.

Conversation went roughly like this...

"Nice bench" I said.
"We don't need it, take it if you like" he said.

Well needless to say I jumped on that and picked it up this morning and here it sits. It's an SP tools bench rated to 2 tonne (although I don't think I'll be testing that out anytime soon). Only issue now is if I can make it fit or if my dad has just scored a new bench for his garage :dunno:

My client has borrowed my pressure washer for the week so I feel all is fair in the world

You lucky, lucky barsteward!!!!! I was looking, no ogling, one like that on the Flea of Bays yesterday, at $1.00, but it was in bleeding Melbourne, "pick up only".....

If you spy another you know who your friend is, don't you (and I've got a perfectly good trailer.) . . . . .

GB,
A good bit of trading with your customer and being in the right place at the right time. That looks like a great work bench. Hope you can make it fit.

WAIT!

Are you saying what I think? Maybe GB just got Gerarded! Or, since he initiated the trade, he technically Gerarded himself.

:D

It shouldn't matter whether it was enable or self initiated. This kind of stuff always happens once you move stuff around and got a handle on the layout and say OK this is gonna work great. Then Bam... new item and time it rethink your whole layout. LOL. Should be interesting how he's going to work this table in.

I'm just enjoying sitting back and watching others now.

All, thanks for chiming in. It was definitely a good score and one of those right place right time moments for sure.

I'll stick some castors on it to get it mobile and see what I can come up with.

Cheers GB

Yeah - at my place!!!!!

Just sayin' :) :thumb up:

Ah, Lyndon, you must be the Ausies version of Shorty, who is always lusting after my Listas, specially now that one is on casters.:lol_hitti:beer: can't tell you how many trailer comments I've heard.:lol_hitti

Nice score GB, right color to. I'll jump in on the castors being added, sure will make it versatile. I'm loving all things castors in my shop.:lol_hitti

KT, Thanks for dropping in. It's even a nice bench to work on too - see next post. The shop expansion is a few years away yet, on a much bigger plot of land.

Ok I thought I had some castors but they are only the 4 hole bolt on version, I'll order something on flea bay that has about a 15mm (19/32) diameter shank on it to bolt on, so needless to say I haven't moved it around as yet :(

another post momentarily....

Started on the drawer additions...

A couple of hours QST late this afternoon starting on the additional drawer storage area as the slides I ordered arrived on Friday. They are light duty 45kg slides, nice quality and ran about $17 a pair for 550mm (~21.6"), also got a couple of 350 mm (13.7") pairs for a drawer assembly over where the air compressor lives to do later on.

View media item 67287
So I removed the doors, contents and shelving of this cupboard. I initially was going to keep the doors but after making the measurements to allow for the drawers to clear the brackets etc, I would have lost nearly 3" in width, so I'll make the draw fronts fit flush and it will look the part anyway.

View media item 67281
Since the workbench was still where it came off my trailer I gave it a work out. It's a real nice size, fits my 12" saw on it and has plenty of room to do assembly as well. I'd already cut the draw sides and backs from more pine left over from my brothers place in this pic (same stuff I did the cleat wall with).

View media item 67282
I'd stripped down a heap of office partitions a while ago at work to scrap out the aluminium etc, but I'd kept the mdf inserts that were covered in a hessian type material. Figured I'd try them out for bases.

Getting the staples out wasn't too bad...

View media item 67283
Didn't realise it had been glued on with spray adhesive which is all yucky to get your fingers on. Instead of sraping it off and mucking around I figured it would be fine to help stick on kaizen foam or some other liner so left them sticky side up to be the base of the draw.

View media item 67284
Missed a couple of pics here but basically routed a 6 mm (1/4") groove in the base and the mdf panel slid in nicely. Glued, and screwed. Then unscrewed and trimmed a bit more off the width because someone didn't subtract correctly  Then it all fit better after that

View media item 67285
Just needs a quick hit with the sander and I might adjust the height up a smidgen on this one. I'll probably make the bottom 2 draws the same height 140mm (roughly 5 1/2") then average out the rest to fill up the cabinet of which I should get another 8 around the 2 3/4" region. That should help with organizing things a bit...I hope :dunno:

View media item 67286
Then I'll just need to make the fronts out of some melamine and install some handles.

Cheers GB.

There you go Lyndon :)

GB: nice work on the drawer. just an FYI in case you don't already know the MDA and maybe all fiber glue wood's sawdust and debris is just nasty and maybe toxic too so wear at least a dust mask if not a good mask to prevent any issues.

i'd heard about that in the past and using if i'm doing more than a simple job like trimming my front door with new molding i'd take the time to find at least a cheap painter's mask. that said i cut up a few pieces for my last project and no mask and had runny nose and eyes for maybe a week afterwards.

cheers and keep up the great work.

At times I am a little slack with the masks Drives however I always have eye and ear protection on these days. I do keep a stack of P2 (N95 equiv) masks and normally have one on as soon as any sanding is involved.

GB, well done on the drawers, nothing like having that extra storage..

Regards

Thanks 1/2 Cup. Won't be as nice as your stainless front draws but I have another idea brewing to spruce up the melamine faces at some point.

Exactly what 1/2 said. [emoji482]

Cheers Gerard, there is some gerardification going on at least :D

Great job GB.

Thanks Aaron, hopefully I can get a couple more draws knocked up this afternoon.

All, Not that I was checking, but seems my waffle has made 50 pages now. I like to just say thanks to all that read along and to those that take the time to comment as it's a great motivator.

Cheers GB :beer2:
