Without going through this whole thread, has anybody found suitable replacement feet to ditch the casters?
I like the height with the casters on and want to do a workbench set up, but don't really like the looks with the casters on (minor I know).

I just completed my setup of 2 - 13 drawer rollers with 2 side cabinets. Has anyone here re-keyed their boxes? I have a 3 and 5 year old so locking my boxes is critical. I pulled the cylinders however the slot on the back of the lock that engages the rod is different than any other cabinet or cam lock ive seen.

I have an email into HF customer service / parts and still waiting for a reply.

Anyone else by chance have a source for locks?

Re: Harbor Freight 13 drawer tool boxes $359

Since the price on these has risen to $359 and the new discount coupons spell out that we can't use them on tool chests how about the husky chest at Home Depot? On sale this week for $279 but none of my local stores have them in stock. Anyone checked these out? Only 4 less drawers but for 80 bucks less, seems like deal if they are built about the same.

This is what I am leaning towards using.

Very curious about this if anyone has any input on this husky chest as a decent replacement to the HF chest...?
Also it's craftsman club discount days I was almost thinking about getting two of their cabinets to make a Stevo type bench... With a hole in the middle to push in a chair in and possibly a trailer receiver mount for a vise/grinder.

Thanks!

I think I have that exact Husky box in addition to my two HF boxes. I saw the good price I think last Christmas or a bit before and had to buy it.

Anyway, I haven't used it a lot, but the drawers in my HF box feel sturdier. Possibly thicker gauge steel in the HF box, or the height of the drawer in the HF is shorter making it more rigid, not sure.

You can see pictures of it in my mess of a garage in the refurb thread.

Can I throw this one into the mix? It's 52in husky for $279.... Hard to pass up the price... But if the HF one is a lot better then makes more sense to spend a little more on what will last.... My one issue with reading a lot of the reviews online about these rolling chests is most complaints are about the wheels and if the draws stay put when in the back of their truck etc... I plan on taking the wheels off and welding a frame around it so which ever cabinet I get it won't get need to be a high end snap-on that's bullet proof just something that will open and closes when filled with tools.

they are made in china, but they are actually a very very nice toolbox. really rugged, thick sheetmetal, and the drawers are on nice ball bearing guides

I dont know where they are made but look around this site and you will find they are far from junk . Most folks here feel they are better than 95% of the boxes you can get at Sears today . I have the 5 drawer tool cart from HF and it is a fantastic unit . I am working finances right now to see if I can swing the 13 drawer this weekend myself as for the twice the price you wont find a box half as nice
Rick

IMO, they are better than 100% of the (no-doubt-Chinese-manufactured) Craftsman boxes.

They're certainly better made than any of the Craftsman boxes I currently own.
This has been echoed many times here. And I trust the experience of the ones that posted the information.
Again, I would love to go get one, but don't have the room right now.

My only issue with the husky box is the two bottom drawers...they are so deep. I'm only speaking for myself, but I would over load the two bottoms and end up losing tools in the bottoms due to the lazy fact of not digging to the bottoms of them enough... Lol.

I was looking to use this in combination with my 26" husky toolbox, thinking it would be a good work surface and would store larger tools (jigsaw, sanders, etc). However, after seeing it in the store, I was not impressed with the construction. I am going with 2x of the 44" harbor freight boxes instead. More money, but they should last a lot better.

Has anyone done the rounds with a micrometer and determined WHICH BRAND is built the best?

Manufacturers change guages all the time...one has to know what the current crop of boxes are built with...you cannot go on years old info.

Has anyone bought the 13 drawer marked item #69387? The reason I ask is that is states "Easy-lift spring loaded latch keeps drawers closed until released". I would love it if they has a grip latch version.

I think I'm going to return my Kubota (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=178709 ) to Costco and replace it with this. I really like the Kubota as it has super solid drawers but the cheesy side swing doors take up way too much unused space. I was in HF the other day to check out the 13 drawer and the demo drawers didn't feel as solid as my Kubota. Too bad after reading so many good things about it. I'm hoping that it was just because it's the demo and been abused.

I have the $300 husky. It is what I consider light duty. It suits me well though as a tool room box. I have a very nice husky stainless (discontinued) that stays in the bay while I work, so it sees far more use.

I missed the last sale. Anyone know if it will be on sale at upcoming parking lot sale (08/23-08/25)? Do all HF stores have parking lot sales on the same day?

Go to HF's site, add 68784 to your cart and type in the coupon code 12953391. That'll bring the price to $359.99 and you can have the store match it.

Thanks. I didn't know there was a current valid coupon for it. Do you know when that one expires?

I may have missed this but has anyone found a place to buy replacement drawers for this box? I want to take out the bottom two shallow drawers (2.9" high a piece) and replace it with another deep (6") drawer like the ones that are on the very bottom. That would make it sooooo much more useful for me.

I would love to know how much they want for that drawer (and possibly the narrower one if you're looking to match the sides).

Also, I'm guessing they only have the glossy ones at this point.

Using coupon code 12953391 today. I went to a retail outlet and bought 2 and she discounted 2 . I also bought a side cabinet. I wished they still made the small side cabinet with the door on it. Anyway here is a pic , Ill post more as I go.

Any reason you didn't put the side cab in the middle to tie them all together? Just wondering.

I like that setup! I wish I had room for two lower boxes side by side, but how do you keep the top surface so clear of stuff!
