I wonder if that is why they have been having the side cabinet on sale for $120 on-line?

Just bought two tops tonight, $249 each with ITC coupon... same older color. Matched my bottom perfectly, the other is for dad for christmas. What's this side cabinet for $120 you speak of?

I've been wanting anew box and have the HF coupons so I've visited the store twice in the past few days as well as Sears comparing to their best ball bearing grip-latch boxes. Here are my conclusions:

1) The Sears box is decent - they HAD a 41" double black set on sale at $750 but I passed - still not sturdy enough for me.
2) The HF 13 drawer (about 41") bottom doesn't turn me on. I don't like the non-gloss red - too difficult to clean when it gets greasy and dirty. Also there are no positive drawer latches or stops. The metal looks on the flimsy side to me and the decorative drawer "chrome" strips are plastic.
3)The 56" industrial chest looks very nice. Much sturdier than the 13 drawer 41" chest and has drawer latches, nice aluminum decorative strips and much better casters. Also, I really like the gloss red. If they only had a matching top it would be a fantastic set!

Back to looking around for a decent deal.

I bought that 56'' and love it, but I'm working with a get by top for now that was gift from a friend. I've found a few, but ordering one without handling it is a problem for me.

They have run the side cabinet with the shelf for $120 twice in the last month...ON-LINE only. Which adds about $25 for shipping.
I need the 7-drawer, but don't have a need for the shelf cabinet or I would have jumped on it.
I'll post next time I see it for sale.

Print it and carry it in, worked for me and shipping was way more! I called and asked first since it's a 140 mile drive. And I still saved money not having just the side box shipped.

I didn't scan more than a couple pages back in this thread, but have y'all noticed there is somebody selling the coupons on ebay... and bidding on one for the 42" cabinet is up to $50+?
:spit:

Also, the seller's one "negative" feedback is from somebody screaming scam, with the sellers response being something to the effect of "Didn't you read the listing? The listing is for a coupon!"

My local store had one last time I was in there, but for $399. I was not impressed with it. That top drawer just didn't look like it'd be happy loaded up with Hansen trays full of sockets. Maybe I'm wrong, but it'd be a hard sale to me even if it were half that. :dunno:

Thats the reason this thread and the harbor freight coupon thread were created. No one should have to pay for a free coupon

I am planning on picking up a couple of the 13 drawer cabinets soon and would like to get some more info about it as well. I would prefer the gloss finish too but if it is not powder coated I would take the old wrinkle finish (function over form).

I checked my HF and all they had was the textured finish, I asked them about these new gloss cabinets and they looked at me like "Huh?".

Top drawer loaded up seems to work just fine for me. They have doubled up slides:thumbup: IMO these drawers work better and feel stronger once some tools and weight have been added to them.

I got one of the $298 Husky boxes last week, it's a nice piece for ~$300. My intended use isn't loading it heavy with tools/sockets (already got a waterloo magnum 36" for that) but to use it as additional storage for tools not used often as well as odds and ends, and the wood top work surface is nice.

Anyone know how to remove the drawers? I'd like to swap around the location of the deep drawers. Do you have to drill out the rivet? Or is there another way?

Pull out the drawer so it is fully extended. At the point where inner and outer slides meet, on the outside of the slide you will see a tiny black plastic lever. Flip the lever on both sides and the drawer with half of the slide will come out very easily. No drilling reqd.

Nice. That was easy. Don't know how I missed that. Here's a tough one. I wanted to move the deep drawers on my top box to my bottom cabinet and put all smaller drawers up top. My deep drawers on the top only have one slide(the bottoms have double) how can I get more slides to add to my top? Do I have to call HF? or can I order online somewhere?

I was happy with the HF lower. I have since moved on, but here is a pic of the old top drawer that had no issues:

Does anyone know if the 13 drawer HF box is currently being made available in the gloss red finish? Just picked-up the 5 drawer and I like the finish. Would like to match it on the 13 drawer. The display in the store was the muted powder finish -- I don't like it.

i actually made it a rush to expand my box this week because i feel they will be changing the color to gloss red very soon, I happen to like the powder coated finish and didnt want to lose the chance to expand my box if the colors changed. I notice a lot of chatter of a color change and the fact that HF has already changed the cart color recently from powder coat to gloss red. There has been enough people mention that they have held off buying the 13 drawer because they want gloss red that I'm sure HF corporate watches these threads and a change is coming

Seems like HD may be closing out some Husky boxes in my area. I picked up a 52" Husky 9 drawer box for $298 today minus a 10% Lowes coupon so it was about $285 OTD.

In store, I could tell right away that my 42" HF (thread topic) box at home was much sturdier. I got it home, took it off the crate and even the wheels on the Husky box aren't as nice.

Anyway, I'll keep the Husky box because I wanted the slightly deeper drawers. I will continue to use the HF box for my "go to tools" that I need to access regularly.

I hear you. I called my HF tonight and asked them to look at a sample of the 13 drawers they had in stock. Appears they're all dull powder finish. That settles it for me -- I'll wait until they start showing-up in the gloss red.

Anyone hears of this box appearing in the new finish, please post!

It has already been posted somewhere here on GJ, but so far I feel the same way about Yeti sightings...

Did anybody else happen to see the 36" Husky Chest and Cabinet combo in the home depot ad? $298 for both peices, expires 1/4/12. Link
Any thoughts? I know its lower quality than the HF box but do the Huskys hold up well?
I'm thinking about picking one up tomorrow.

that doesn't mean anything. my store still has the dull red 5 drawer cart for a display. but it is selling the shinny red paint cart in the box.

This set up felt as cheap as the new craftsman cabinets to me.
The US General Pro boxes seem so much better built.

Looking for a $349.99 coupon for the 13 drawer tool cabinet. I know what coupon code (thanks to "wornoutoldman" post 816) to put in online but would also like a valid coupon in case HF cashier is picky.
