I believe 999 is the normal "sale" price and it will never be 1500. so in theory, it will go below 999 for actual sales.

Ok, now that I've got in mostly loaded I can come up for air and post pictures. The ones I remembered to take that is. As you can probably tell, I was in desperate need of some storage. This is the cleanest that wall has been in ten years.

I'm impressed with the box, just like I was impressed with the 56's that several guys at work have. I hAve no doubt that it will last forever in my garage. The drawers are smooth, especially with a load and they open all the way out.

If you want any pictures that don't require laying it on it's back, let me know.

The claim is $999 is the we are just launching the product and we are making it great deal for 1 month sort of sale price. The price will normally be in the 1200.00 range if I had to guess with occasional $999 price with coupon deals.

Keep in mind, the 52 never drops below $699.

What's the size of the Matco? If around the same and in good shape the Matco hands down. Matco makes some of the nicest tool boxes of all. Pretty under rated when it comes to truck tool boxes. Snap on and Mac get all the glory there

If in decent shape MATCO ALL DAY LONG. I don't care what the HF fan boys say MATCO, Mac and Snap On boxes are built way better than the US General. If you don't get that Matco tell me where it is so I can

i will say you cannot beat HF for the money. they are a 1/110th of the other brands in most cases. i have HF 44, which i feel has better glides than the 56, IMO. i have a mac tools 44 and also a matco 57 2 bay. the mac tools box has the best drawer slide feel of them all. i really like the matco box though. the detents on the mac are too tight. have to ****** the drawer most of the time to open them it seems like.

for 1000 bucks, it would be hard pressed to find a matco box that is 72" and not wore out.
ive said it in another thread. its easier to gamble at a grand and buy it a couple times over in 15 or 20 years than it is to spend 11K up front and have to deal with it for 20 year.

Well...Got a new, news paper style, flyer in the mail today that says all of the prices in the flyer are good until the end of March. The $999 price is the in the flyer for the 72" cabinet, no coupon required.

Dumb question. Does HF have lay away? Would like to lock in the price. I have my box sold and want to make the transition as easy as possible. He is giving me half this weekend and the rest the following week.

No, but you could always try talking to the manager about the possibility of him getting one on hold for you. :dunno:

Yes. I sold it finally. It's actually held up great. But I just need more useable space. It's a great man cave garage box. And that's what the guy bought it for. I need to store more tools and have more bench space.

Request a rain check if it's not in stock at your local store.

I may do that this month if my local store doesn't get them.

That kobalt is not junk by any means but id think the 72 woul not be a downgrade. Friend had one and the drawers were smooth but seem unstable when loaded down

My 72" toolbox arrived a couple days ago. I was pleasantly surprised by how well it was packaged. Nothing was damaged at all. The box is very sturdy and the drawers are super smooth to operate. I am unsure of where the 4 extra bolts go that came with it though. They have a 13mm head on them and are about an inch long. I'm clueless where they go. Anybody know where they go?

I got two of those bolts with my 44" roller cabinet.I have no clue as to where they go or what they do. As soon as I throw them away I'll find out !!

They aren't for the handles. I have those both assembled already. It doesn't say anything about the bolts in the owners manual either.

I got the same bolts still just sitting on the top of the box, no idea what they are for.

Hmm... Looks like I'll just hold on to them just incase. Have you also noticed that the caster wheels are different than what it shows on the picture? No big deal, just not the same as pictured.

My guess they would be used to attach the inevitable top chest and/or crown to it. If you clap your hands hard enough I'm sure they'll announce the top already.

I wish they made a way to connect the 56"s together..

According to HF website, the $999 proce tag is still in effect now that it is March, but also according to to the website, "Due to overwhelming demand, this item is currently out of stock."

I hope they get more soon fand keep that price!

On the 44 the bolts are for adding a side cab if you look at either side toward the bottom of the box you should find threaded holes.....on the 72 I have no idea

I paid 1500.00 for my 72" classic 96 that was 6 months old when I bought it. I think that's a bit high for a harbor freight box IMO.

That was a good deal, but if you compare the MSRP prices, and deduct from the HF for the difference in quality, the HF is still the better bargain for the homeowner / starting mechanic. Plus, you get 6 more drawers.

Your link still shows the price at $ 999.00...

Wouldn't it be nice if Harbor Freight left the price where it is???

The Snap On link shows a "sale" price as well. I used the MSRP as an example because it's a constant, rather than the sale or discount prices because they can change on a whim.

Given the way that HF works, I suspect that the $999 price will be fairly consistent most of the time, while the Snap On price is subject to the driver's mood and phase of the moon.

The previous poster was comparing prices on a new HF box to a SO box that had been taking up space on the truck for 6 months without moving. Not a fair comparison.
