I love these threads.
They ****.
Do not.
****.
Best ever.
Neener neener.
No actual scientific testing.
Usually most of the people posting have never owned or used the item.
So what fun is it to read a thread like this?
First, it informs that all tools can be broken.
Second, it shows that there are lots of choices for tools at most any price point.
I can only report my own experience.
And I must qualify it.
I have never owned or used SO or Wera or any of the other expensive screwdrivers.
So I have no benchmark to compare against.
And any evidence I give is anecdotal at best.
I use Craftsman or Kobalt or any cheap screwdriver that comes to hand for general around the house work. They all work OK as long as I choose the right one for the job.
Most often I will use the free HF ones because I have them everywhere.
The other day I had a screw in a plastic anchor that was too tightly secured. Tried the HF thru bolster ones and a wrench. Leaned against the end with my body. It got them out when no amount of hand force on a regular one would do the job. Screws were those darned phillips ones.
Another instance of the right tool solving a problem.
If someone provides me a tool that does the job I need accomplished, and does so for a price, that's great. If they can make it a work of art as well, and do that at a cost I can justify, I'll get that too.
Tool arguments are kind of funny.
I'm just glad we have all these choices.
Since I can't help but feel u took a stab at me, I'll take one back -
And I loves these posts:
I have an $8 screwdriver set I've used everyday for 4 years and they have never failed
- well they **** cause it's not snap on, and the snap on screwdriver will turn the screw better
I have a $20 ratchet I've used everyday for 4 years and it has never failed
- well it ***** cause it's not snap on, and a snap on ratchet will turn a bolt better
I have a $500 tool box that ive used everday for the last 4 years and it has never failed
- well it ***** cause it's not snap on, and a snap on box will hold the tools better..
Listen guy - you can crack on people , myself included, for not refinancing my house to own snap on' stuff.. I'm not a mechanic, so why the **** would i? BUT THE REALITY IS - my $8 screwdriver set, my $20 ratchet, and my $500 tool box keep MY CARS out of YOUR SHOP, where you intend to charge me $95/hr for labor dictated by books, instead of how long it actually took you. So its less money out of my pocket to buy the tools, to keep NO MONEY from going into yours.. So guys can laugh all they want, cause I'm laughing too when I see the "snap on bill collector" driving around.
now to recap - your joking with me about how I dont "own the best tools" but yet I can still do most of the work i need in my driveway.. So I have enough skill to get by doing most of your job - you wanna see if you have enough skill to do mine?
