I cut block and dry fit them to the holes in the wall.

20211021_164923.jpg
Then I mixed some mortar and set them. I'm going to leave the 18"x 24" hole and make a door so that I will have access to this end of the crawlspace.

We got the second coat of paint on the east wall and tomorrow I am going to run the rest of the electrical on the west wall so Pat can start painting it. If I have time I'll start trimming the windows.

Well the power came back on at 1:30 this morning, I was in bed but not sleeping, so I put my cpap mask on and went to sleep, sometime later it went off again so off comes the cpap but I did go back to sleep, dont know when it came back on but I got up at 8:00
I wired outlets and ran some more conduit, for the first time ever there are outlets in the basement!

Looks like you got a lot done the last couple. My mom had all kinds of oil lamps when I was growing up. I remember the power went out early one evening in the winter. Out came the oil lamps and board games. Plenty enough light.

I have been getting more done latley, I dont have the interruptions now that I have had most of the summer. If I know that I'm going to need to go somewhere to talk to people, like raising money for the lodge or other business, I dont like to work before hand and get sweaty and dirty so I tend to do nothing.

Pat has collected oil lamps forever, and we can cook a dozen different ways so surviving without power dosnt bother us too much, the well will hold enough pressure for maybe one good shower then we are out of water, so that and heat in the winter are the reasons for the generator.

Had to go to lowes and pick up a few supplies, then to the basement for a little work.
I mounted the windows in a mortar frame a while back and today I built extension jambs and trim for the inside.
20211024_171340.jpg
The extension jambs are mounted off of the concrete block with some ½" uhmw plastic spacers I had in the shop, then the void was filled with low expanding foam and the trim was pin nailed to the jambs. My Brother called from Oklahoma and talked for a couple of hours so not much work got done.

Tomorrow morning I have to go get stitches out then I'll caulk and paint inside and start the mortar trim on the outside.

Jim, with all the windows and natural light your basement is a real asset. The basements I grew up with had little spy holes at the top of the wall. I believe they were called Hint-O-Window.

Kirk, thanks it's coming along nicely
Bob, that's the windows I'm used to, barley big enough to see out of. We had the three windows made to match the other windows in the house. It should be nice looking when it's done, we are hoping to stucco the outside and things should look seamless, we hope.

HJ, your windows look real good. That trim install looks nice and tight!
The fresh paint really brightened up those basement walls too.

Don't bother installing windows. The cowboys will just start a fight over the girls upstairs, and someone will get thrown through them. It happens in every western documentary I watch.

I'll be right there Don,
I'm really really missing my shop time, this whole summer just got out of hand with trying to finish up lingering projects, and getting volunteered to do several things that I didnt even know I wanted to do(said with sarcasm). I need to finish this basement and get the new building set in place then I can get some QST in, I hope.
Uncle willie, I saw that same show!

Got another little nasty project out of the way today, I knew when I bailed the bil out last month when his print shop screwed up and lost his artwork that this was going to happen. I made the trophy lables for this Saturday's car show.
20211026_141106.jpg
It's a smaller church show so not a big job. We got him a new laptop and I'm going to transfer the music from the old laptop to the new one and set up some new genres if I can remember the password.

Had a Dr. appt. this morning, stopped and got the new switch for the stove, took the truck through the car wash, the automated teller told me to wait while my membership was verified, it was and the gate went up. I told the guy at the door what had happened and that I didnt have a membership, he motioned me in and told me not to argue with the machine.

I got a present from Rivennhewn today.
It's a 105mm artillery round, base that was used for an ash tray.
I have a couple of other pieces of WWII ammunition art so he added to the set.

I did a little polishing on it. I'll put a clear coat on and put it on the shelf with the other pieces.

That is too cool!

I worked on a military facility (Rocky Mountain Arsenal). Out back of our lab building for the smokers, they had the cool, painted yellow, half bombs (belly and fins) filled with dirt. There were a few blue ones around at different buildings too.

Some even had flowers in them some times.

I really wanted to swipe one, but that never seemed like a very good idea...

I sent you a “Barn Fresh” item.

You turned it into a showpiece!

Nice work 👍

Kirk, it weighs a bunch, it's going to look good on the shelf.
Riv, I spent about an hour and a half on it, I sandblasted the inside, sanded the outside with 120, 600, 1000, then polished with red roughe stick. I want to give it one more polish then clear coat it. It will have a place for ever on my shelf.

Thanks Don, yes it feels like you can make progress so fast with brass. I have an ashtray that was manufactured in my home town that I found here in Tn. I think it has a 50 cal. round on it. I want to polish it and then clear coat both of them (something you taught me). Pics to follow.

We spent the day driving around to salvage stores trying to get ideas for the cabin and to find flooring for the basement, we have this place that we like in Trenton Ga. but today wasnt the day to go there. The interstate was shut down with multiple accidents so we took alternate routes from the gps, there were wrecks there also it took about four hours longer for the trip today. We did find flooring on sale at our local Home Depot, 20 minutes from home, geeze!

The car show was canceled due to rain. Yea!!!
I worked in the basement today, did some painting and caulking, drilled some holes and pulled some wires. I moved a truck load of stuff to the storage trailer. I'm close to installing the cieling, I need one day without rain so I can pull the cctv wires through the vinyl siding and close up all the holes/penetrations in the walls.
Tonight is the 5000th saturday night opry.
The grand ol opry is the longest running radio show in the world.
It is being aired by several apps.
I'm watching circle tv on the peacock app, it's on YouTube also.
In case you didnt know I'm a traditional Country Music Junkie, I can sing along with Hank Sr., or Hank Snow, or Marty Robbins all day long.

I remember going to the original Grand Ole Opry when I was a little kid with my parents and grandparents. Back when Minnie Pearl was middle aged. Sat under a drip in the ceiling.
