Did a little warm up project today trying to get motivated (Pat and I were binge watching Dark Shadows till past 1:30 this morning) I cant reach the floor as easy as I used to and that's where the kindling always goes so I found this hatchet head in a bucket of hammer heads and a piece of a steel post I had cut off a long time ago.
I cleaned the rust off to weld them
Found this under the rust
Ready to go

Works good
Total time 30 minutes. Now I need to get busy, so much to do.

I kept trying to split kindling on my vice stand and that's what I was doing. This is only about 6" tall so a couple light taps and it sticks to the blade then I hit it and it falls into the cup.

That's one of the reasons I moved here from Chicago. I worked for Montgomery public works and plowed snow for them and I had a side business plowing parking lots. Snow overload

Careful you'll give me the big head syndrome, it's just the way I think about things, I need something and I start looking at my pieces. Thanks for the compliment.
Dalton and I spent the afternoon trenching in the wires for the lights. It went well and now I need to get the copper out of storage to run an air line out with the power to the base.
We are going to Trenton Georgia tomorrow to check out a handyman store, https://handymansalvagehwy11.business.site/
my Nephew told me about it and it sounds like a good place.

It snowed 23 inches here in 93 and the old timers are still talking about it. There were many roofs that collapsed. When I started building my shop I caught a lot of flack for overbuilding it but coming from Chicago it was how it was going to be.

I'm starting to mellow a bit about it. I worked for the town I lived in. I was in charge of the garage and didnt get any overtime all summer, the road crew and water plant got overtime all summer doing main brakes and the water plant, the plant had to be manned 7 days per week plus anything else that happened. All the overtime was talleyed on the overtime board so the low man was the first called out to keep it fair. ( with me so far) In the fall I would be added to the call out list for plowing only, and be 150 hours or so behind all the others, so I was always low man, first to get called out until I caught up. That usually took until Christmas or better as we got called out four people at a time for most snow events so I didnt gain hours on the rest of the group very quick. Also it didnt excuse me from my regularly scheduled shift in the shop. I pulled 16 hour shifts on a regular basis every couple of days. Then I had to plow my own snow on my own time. It sucked for 10 years.
When I quit the guy that replaced me was not allowed to plow because it wasn't in his job description. I have never wanted to use a steel pipe on someone as bad as I did that director of public works.

Had domestic duties today but I did get to stop by Donnies and look at the paint he put on the boat. 22' Mako

Still ideling, it's been raining all day so I took Pat to Athens to get some paperwork finished for her concealed carry permit as we came past Starr mountain I tried to get some pics. It is way bigger than it looks here. The pics dont do it justice.

Yes it is, being a flatlander most of my life I still dont believe I live in the mountains. I loved riding them on my bike, I'm only about 45 minutes from the tail of the dragon, that is an epic ride.

Mine either anymore, I got old and brake too easy now. I rode 12 months I never put my bike away for the winter, even when I lived in chicago.

Never got to run the tail on any of my bikes, but did get to in a 1994 Plymouth minivan.
I had a blast, but my wife, her sister and BIL didn't seem to enjoy it nearly as much based on all the screaming.
Just sampled the hot pickled sausage, Jim.
It's great! Need to start another batch, this one's not going to last long!

Terry this whole area is like the tail, I really wish I would have bought a gopro back then the video would be great to have now.
This is about halfway up chilhowee mountain about fifteen minutes from the house.
I'm glad you like the sausage it's one of my favorites, I'm thinking about running a batch of eggs in the jar after I finish my sausage!

Got motivated today and got back to work on the gazebo. It dosnt look like much but it was all on a ladder today, dont tell my Doctor he'll ****. I had a bunch of holes to drill in the roof panels while they were in position, they will be key to the support on final assembly.
I had a mess at the peak where I cut back some temporary bracing. Then I made a pan that will hide the brackets and support the light/fan assembly.
Didnt get a pic of the pieces but here they are all assembled.
Ground the welds and cleaned it up.
I clamped it in place and marked all of the braces.
Then I notched the pan so It will now sit flush with the braces.
Test fit and adjust the notches.
I mounted it with four self tapping screws. I will add four more during final assembly.
I have been on the ladder all day, I'm done(Because it really is five o clock here) time for a shower and a couple adult beverages while Pat finishes the home made soup and cornbread.

I am planning on using metal like I have on the rest of the buildings but I dont want the massive looking ridge on this small roof. I'm going to see if they will make custom caps for me.
I'm hoping to get it to powder coat by wednesday.

Thanks Drives, I hope to not disappoint, it all seems to be going as planned(so far). I do need to get more exercise, I have been contemplating walking in the morning but my aches and pains have won out every time.
The ladder is basically what stalled the work to begin with. I'm not supposed to be climbing and I have both rotator cuffs torn but I felt friskey yesterday and got it knocked out. Today I'll get the roof sections on the ground and finish welding and clean them up. I have several modifications/additions to do to the side rails.
