Been a minute since I've posted,
20221030_164902.jpg
20221030_163305.jpg
I got the vanity installed at the bil's place.
He hired a drywall finisher to finish the bedroom.
20221030_165228.jpg
We have all of the drywall hung, I just cant finish and sand it, it really causes problems with my back and shoulders.
I'll have to trim out the electric and install a bathroom door and that will about wrap this project.
One step closer to retirement!

I got to work on my buffet for a bit this morning.
20221031_151014.jpg
I didnt expect to do this detail of work, it is going to be a shelf to put printers on next to my desk in the basement,
20221003_101451.jpg
20221003_101454.jpg
I didnt think that these stains and paint would come off without leaving a noticeable mark in the wood, it did take all of the black grain out of the oak but I was able to put it back and it came out so well that I will put a quality finish on the piece. I guess I will buff my buffet, lol.
20221030_123115.jpg
I'll put one more coat of clear on it tomorrow after I finish sanding, I am using 320 grit dry paper now, the next coat will get cut 25% with reducer to thin it out then I'll probably do a 1500 or 2000 grit wet sand and buff the top only.
Like I said I didnt expect to go this far with it but it's looking way better than the piece of trash that was given to me. Note, the plywood shelf on the bottom is only attached with 10 pin nails, it could be removed if someone wanted to use this in there home when I'm done with it, I put the shelf there to store filament spools.

I also cut down the shutters that will become the door for the coal room.
20221030_105902.jpg
They were almost 70" long.
20221030_105929.jpg
I cut them to around 54" then I had to fill four slat holes on either side by cutting ¼" long pieces from one of the old slats and glueing them into the slots, then sanding them flat. This gave me a flat surface to redrill the holes for the glue dowels.
20221030_123108.jpg
I will build a frame around two of these and hinge them.

Are you getting into 3D printing?

As fancy as the bathroom is turning out, you’d think BIL could hire out the remodel. Oh, wait he did, Jim Handy Handyman. 🤪

Cabinet looks very nice. Nice save on doors.

Yes Kay,
Pat gave me one for Christmas last year. We had the buffet stored in an outbuilding for years with no intention to use it, but it kind of matched the desk and has lots of storage room so I think it will work well as a printer station.
Kirk,
I used to really like drywall work but the pressure it puts on my arms hurt, both rotators are torn so no bueno!
Shorty,
The train is close to the station buddy!

We are going downtown Chattanooga this morning, ugh, Kayla has a new Doctor. Google says 53 minutes

Wow that is some bathroom cabinet you spiffed up for your BIl.

I’m with you too about drywall cause I’m not nearly as skilled as the pros that do it daily and I HATE working above my head.

Keep on keeping on and do what you do. If you weren’t so NEIGHBORLY you’d have 6 Saturdays and a Sunday every week but I know you enjoy helping others.

We mulched leaves again today,
20221102_142750.jpg
Maybe one more time and it might be done.

The lawn tractor is down with steering failure, the parts are here but I'm holding out until later this winter, I want to rebuild the deck and maybe paint the whole tractor. But for now I need to move lawn trailers, so!
20221102_124142.jpg
As they say in Georgia, I found a substitute.
20221102_124548.jpg
Checked for clearance. 20221102_124727.jpg
Found parts.
20221102_133734.jpg
Did some welding.
20221102_135732.jpg
And this is what I came up with.
20221102_135754.jpg
No interference!
20221102_160128.jpg
Now I'm back in business.
20221031_151027.jpg
I put the final coat of clear on the buffet today also.

Jim:
You may never go back to pulling the trailer with the lawn tractor. The zero turn makes it so easy to back a trailer into tight spots and does a pretty good job of towing . The first thing I put on my Scag and the first thing the neighbor had me do to his JD ZTR, although the fab was more difficult on his IIRC (about 15 years ago). I used to haul pretty large loads of firewood with a 4x8 trailer. Got pictures someplace with the trailer lookin like one of those old time logging sled loads.

It's hard to get the right angle, but the shine is great. Those are reflections of clouds in the second pic.You can see the reflection of the phone in the last shot. I used automotive clear coat on it, on the "finished sort of" I'm not sure I like the hardware I picked out, it may go back and something else purchased!

Jim, nice job of breathing some new life back into that buffet. The top came out better than I was expecting! I’m a fan of quarter-sawn oak.

Thanks Kirk, Jay
I never intended to use it but it matched the roll top desk pretty well and I needed a shelf for printers and the storage will be nice.
I used Motercity clearcoat, its automotive clear but I think it will do the job, I could cut and buff it and it would finish just like a car finish but I think it matches the desk better the way it is now.

Kind of jumping projects today, Pat is going to do Thanksgiving this year for all of the outcasts, her family is quarreling amongst themselves so she is doing her part. So we are going to finish the back porch, we will need the overflow space.
We put up 4x8 sheets of bead board 10 years ago when the porch was a screen porch, now its completely enclosed and there is no insulation up there.
20221104_170317.jpg
So I took down all of the bead board and pulled all of the nails.
20221104_170315.jpg
I ran a 10-2 w/ ground across the basement cieling and up to the back porch several years ago I finished running it up the wall and across the porch cieling, it will power a mini split unit. Then I started insulating.
The bil and Josh are going to be here at 9:00 in the morning to help install the 5" v-grove cieling boards, just like the basement.

Kirk, He was a real trooper today, he really helped a lot.

Jay, I can not tell a lie,,,it has been on the list a while and was actually scheduled to be finished right after the basement, but things changed with the family's traditional plans so we are just going to stay home, only problem with that is most of them are coming here for Thanksgiving!

Strouty, I finally got some help so I think we'll get this one done in time.

Logan, I'm excited about the mini split, my hvac buddy is supposed to come by this weekend to look at what I need.

Dude and Josh both worked there butts off today.
20221105_191326.jpg
Me and Josh worked the scaffold and Dude was saw man and board feeder.
20221105_150700.jpg
We actually got within three courses of finishing but we ran out of light and Josh's kids were hungry. We decided to start at 11:00 tomorrow.
We did have to stop for about an hour, Josh has been waiting for a delivery and it showed up today.

Whitley wanted to ride so! She rode it into the house.

The porch is going to be a great place to gather.

Hunting wild boar is on my to do list. Looks like that one has some Russian blood in it.
I haven't had anything mounted yet, but I've said if I get a hairy, tusked boar, I'll spring for a head mount at least.
That's a great looking trophy.
He should be proud!

We got a bunch done today.
20221106_153351.jpg
Finished the cieling.
20221106_110612.jpg
Removed two layers from the back wall of the house.
20221106_153347.jpg
We had to cut back some of the wood that the windows were mounted to.
20221106_153407.jpg
Next, I have to do something with the steps.
Going tomorrow to get a new door.
Cheapest thing would be to chop the top layer of bricks off.
The next cheapest thing would be to add a layer of bricks.
I'd vote for chop. It'd give you more floor space.

I'm thinking that's the direction I'm headed in Kay. Those steps were there and the po poured a floor up to them.
Kirk I worked the bil like a borrowed mule today, then I fed him and sent him home!
Got to go tomorrow and get an entry door, a screen door,
a p-tek, and a case of sweet taters, the tater man is in town tomorrow!

It's been crazy around here this week, had Dr appt. on Tuesday said I have pneumonia, gave me two scripts, one was a zpak, now I'm superman, til the roids wear off.
Was in and out all day yesterday but did manage to get all of the electrical sorted out, I've had this stinking google app screwing with my phone so I deleted it and to get even, it deleted all of my pics, so it didnt happen.
Today I pulled all the scaffolding off the porch and took it to the bil's house, he has a job for it, hauled 12 bundles of left over cieling boards to the shop, then I pulled all the nails out of the bead board sheeting that we took out of the porch, loaded it on a truck and hauled it behind the shop and stacked it in storage, along with a half load of square tube rails, then I mulched an acre of leaves. The bil showed up so we hooked up a trailer and went to lowes and got 10, 12' sheets of drywall and stocked them on the porch, then I started cutting insulation and filling cavities.
Pat made me quit.
20221110_172803.jpg
But the porch is shaping up nice!
