Hi Tony

A 172HD place-mat is not big enough to cut in half for 2 normal assistents. Second issue is also that when you would do so, the striping wouldn’t be in the good direction. Maybe you can buy regular rubber mat at a hardware store, the striping isn’t the same as original but it isn’t that bad I think. Then the topshelf is protected until the originals are available again. Made a picture to compare the striping (last picture).

Ok, thank you for your help. Some of mine have the original mats but they are in bad shape after decades of use. I think I'll go with the aftermarket route at this point like you suggested. Cheers!

My new 600LG wrenches arrived. Business-look as usual, very little bling.

And here is a quick 13mm comparison to some others I have in my home boxes (from bottom: Facom No 40, SO OEXM130, OSHM130A, Hazet 600LG):

Bought an illuminated sign few years ago and allways wanted to convert it into a personalised hazet sign like the ones on the outside of Hazet dealers in the 70ties/80ties. So I finally let a sticker made to fit my sign. Think it came out really nice. Will only replace the lights into led.

Hey Wout,

great idea!
I've scored almost the same Outdoor sign from a former Hazet dealership.
Doors closed due to old age.

Who did the layout and how much did you have to pay for layout and print?

P.S.:
LED conversion is a peace of cake, just bridge the starter and install a new LED-tube, there are conversion kits from 'Phillips' as well.

Best Regards
Matt

Hi Matt

I was promised all leftovers from a very old Hazet dealer that moves to a new shop some time ago but instead of keeping it as promised they choose the easy way and throw everything in the bin . There was such a sign to but they didn't removed it and it went down with the building...

I remembered the sign that was hanging on the outdoor wall of that shop so I looked for a picture on the internet and gave that to a local print-service-shop nearby. I also gave them an original Hazet sticker so they could check the colors and writing of the logo. The next day I already got an email with a try-out, asked for a small adjustment and few days later I could pick the sticker up. It wasn't very cheap but was happy to pay cause they made it with almost nothing. Normally you have to give such a shop a pdf or something they can print.

Thanks for the LED-tip. Think I'll remove the bulbs, ballast and everything and just fit a cheap LED-strip in it.

I need to quit opening this thread. Between this sign and the 600LG set posted above, I'm getting some serious envy...

Nice job, sir!

VERY nice. Thanks for sharing pics, interesting that they don't have the same style of stamping that the 600N has.

Thanks!

Bought a cheap led-strip and fitted it in the sign. The led-strip came with a remote control to put it on and off and adjust the illumination but think the battery is dead so it doesn't work (yet).

Bought a tool box from an old school guy. If he didn't have the right tool he made it. I wasn't sure if you guys would be appalled or impressed. Either way, this will be nice to get out o2 sensors!

Think we could start a topic of this kind of 'transformed' tools/wrenches only. I have severall laying around too. Sad to see this happened to a (vintage) tool but it sure helped out who did it with what he was doing or for what he needed it.

Finally picked up my packages at my friends place in Germany so it was like early Christmas to me :). Beside that another white Assistent arrived but the pillars got lost dure shipping . Was able to build it with spare pillars I had but so sad it’s not original anymore after 40 years or so.

With the new arrivals I have all 3 'Mini Assi' models at home, 1 more 450 wrench for my VW Assistent and 2 more correct sockets for my cabinets (small a sockets replaced by big A).
The road sign isn't something from Hazet but because the factory is in Remscheid, I think it's a cool thing to have in my garage.

166TS repair.

My latest 166TS came in very good shape and with a very nice stool. Only the black pillar got probably stuck at some point in the past and broke while forcing it I assume. So the Assistent was missing a special little part and the inner pillar (threated rod) was a few centimeter to short. Big thanks to my father in law who made the little part for me. I wanted to keep as much original material as possible so I put the 'thread cutter' on the remaining thread and aligned and welded the non threated part of an M8 bolt to it. Threated the rod and cut to size also drilled a hole for the linchpin. Assembled everything and very pleased with the outcome :bounce:.

Found a wonderfull early 171 with according lamp locally. Seller bought it new in the 70ties. Assistent is after nearly 50 years still in almost new condition. I'm thrilled with this find, was looking for a grey top 171 for a long time already. Didn't knew the lamp was used on the 171 Assistent to.

Wanted Assistent-list is getting very short now. :bounce:

Thanks! Still a few to find to make my vintage Assistent collection complete. If ever possible to have all types cause it seems the list is endless with all kind of big and small changes over the years.
