If someone wants a stool for his Assistent, I have still a few repro stools for sale.

Quick question for the Hazet geeks: if you buy a set of 610N spanners (or any other ring spanner), how do you know if they’ll be flank-drive or not?

Photos on the web often show flank-drive but the Hazet catalogue pictures are conventional.

Flank drive is the off corner engagement profile that snap-on use.

Its nothing new, even the cheapest spanners from a supermarket has it.

If your talking teeth in the open end then i'm not sure if Hazet do any like that.

It’s nothing new but the curved face gives a larger contact area under elastic deformation of spanner and fastener regardless of precise fastener size, reducing wear and the risk of plastic (permanent) deformation of tool or work.

Cheap supermarket spanners may have it but apparently not all Hazet spanners do. Is it pot luck whether you get a Hazet spanner with this feature? I’m talking about the ring (box) type.

I really doubt it,

They may not advertise it but i'm 100% sure they'll incorporate it into the broach design.

Kind of like how many modern car sales brochures don't show stuff like power steering or electric windows on them any more, its just taken as given.

I'm curious what the attraction is with the Hazet Assistant. They seem to be quite popular and vintage ones sought after. Am I missing something?

Iconic, timeless industrial design in the best German tradition, like a Porsche 911. Durable construction (although the trays wobble). Collapsable for space-saving, for instance carrying in a car boot. Practical features like an all-around bumper to protect the trays (and the other object) in a collision.

I think they’re pretty cool, but current new prices are high for what they are.

Had a realy good flea market ‘hunt’ at a little village next to where I live. Found all of this at 5 different sellers. Found another vw wrench from around 1965 in original package. Awesome because I already found 2 at the same flea market a few years ago.

Great haul Wout - I much prefer pliers without any soft grips on the handles, by far the best for most automotive applications, but most manufacturers seem to have dropped them!

Those open enders all look to be in good shape too, I don’t see many chewed jaws there, or maybe that’s just Hazet quality...!

Thanks! I was very lucky this time, sometimes I only find a few pieces at a giant flea market. Of course it’s because of the high quality they still look very good but they’re often not so clean as they were now.

Thanks for asking. I noticed they had disappeared from the website I buy from, but didn’t know if they were discontinued by Hazet.

Shame, I have one only that I was using last week to work on a bike, and was just thinking I wouldn’t mind a few more!

Oh well, many other patterns to choose from! I’d come to Belgium and look at the flea markets, but I suspect there is no Hazet left at any of them...!

Just bought three more 610 ‘flat’ ring spanners!

For many years I only had one of these, that I picked up used. It’s a seriously useful pattern, unique, I think, to Hazet, but I use it a lot!

I don’t know why I didn’t get a few more previously. I suppose I had it in mind that they were a very costly item, but they are really not, if you have a decent online supplier!

Wout - do you think the quality of the current Hazet is as good as the older tools?

For tools for live, price is not importent. I use Hazet wrenches that are 50+ years old that are not worn out at all. Allready used my 20’s giant adjustable wrench and it worked fine.

Don’t buy new Hazet very often so can’t really compare. Think when it’s about all metal hazet tools, the quality is equal. About screwdrivers and so on, I prefer the hard plastic handles instead of the softgrips of the new tools.

I think I would agree with all of that, and Hazet is not actually that expensive where I am, compared to U.S. tools!

Sadly, you don’t find much used Hazet in the U.K. I can think of more Hazet that has been handed down from Father to Son than has become available used, and any that does turn up is usually in inch AF sizes! Any metric tools seem to get snapped up by the VW enthusiasts!

Yes, the new tools I have seem to be very good. I favour Hazet Hex and Torx bits over any other make at present. I don’t like the soft grip screwdrivers either, but I like the hard handled ‘Trinamic’ ones. I chose these for my ‘road box’!

I prefer the older series screwdrivers and my favorite is an electric one, don't know why but it's the right size for many occasions and it's in the top shelf of one of my Assistents really close to my work bench...

I had never heard of Hazet until I joined GJ, but have been surprised to find a few pieces here and there at auctions and fleas here in western NY.
I was REALLY surprised when I found these 3 600N wrenches yesterday, so I just had to bring them home... (Even though I have no actual need for 41mm or 50mm wrenches.... yet!)

Whereabouts in France? I notice LeBonCoin sometimes has Hazet items, for example here and here. Haven’t tried flea markets.

Saint-Léonard-des-Bois, Normandy. There was a fair with life music, food , flea market, ... and all of this in a very nice setting under the trees next to a small river. At the flea market there was a lot of Facom for sale but also other brands and nice other old stuf.

Didn't find much Hazet for sale on 'leboncoin' in the past and imo a lot of fraude.

Found this interesting 430 wrench with old and new logo on it so it has to be dated very close to 1965.

That spark plug socket is a Porsche special tool I believe.

Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

This is the VW one I think, the Porsche is a bit longer as far as I know.
