Thanks! It is coming along nicely. Pavers and some landscaping out front and the driveway and things will be almost all set. Tuesday they are coming to start the floor and I hope to setup the go pro again to capture another time lapse!

My guys and I tried to lay out the stairs and it's taking up too much room. Altering the stairs seems outright dangerous. I don't want to shorten the stairs. So I thought about it and the lift a friend lent me has been very convenient. I got all my junk upstairs with it! So I might buy a lift and put some steps up to it and or building something to pretty it up around it but then I could still pull it out to use it around the garage?

Buddy of mine had an set of stairs made out of aluminum with a hinge on the top. We then put a hoist from the ceiling to raise and lower the stairs. Works great. We just lower down when need to get something up there then back up. Northern tool electric hoist does the trick.

They were made by a company that fabs railings and gates. Just another option to thing about.

Now if you buy a lift, makes changing light bulbs pretty easy ;)

WOW! That stone work turned out great.

As for the scissor lift, my GC lent me his while I was running my air lines. I am so used to using them at work that I have been waffling on purchasing one for home but I think a small forklift may be a more versatile piece of equipment. Moving heavy equipment around if needs be and loading/unloading supplies would definitely be easier with a forklift. Then for when I need to reach the ceiling I could simply fabricate a small man cage and have my son or wife lift me up. Still contemplating which would be more beneficial at this point before I start looking.

I looked at hinging steps and had someone come out to give me a quote. It was going to be too much money to have them fabricate and I am not a welder so it is out of the question unfortunately.

I can get a lift around here used with "new" batteries for about $3750 OBO but I hope I can get it for around $3200 maybe? It is a useful machine and I contemplated a fork lift but you really need two people with a fork lift. Plus I don't have any high shelves I wouldn't be able to get to with this man lift...

Thanks about the stone I am quite pleased. I said the stones are actually too nice for the metal building.

I just checked the quote again and they wanted like $8000 for the set of hinged steps without the hoist. I actually already bought a couple hoists to mess around with but I think either buying a mobile JLG style lift or a chinese lift from alibaba. I am working on quotes now but I think its going to be cheaper to buy a used one local.

Some pre cleanup for the flooring pictures. They called to say they wanted to start Monday and I said yes sir let's go!

You can see how useful the lift is in these pics as well.

I am having a hard time thinking that you can live without any stairs up to that mezzanine. Sure, a man lift is great for moving stuff up, but you have shelves and shelves of stuff to access, it takes a bit of doing to climb up into a manlift every time you want to look for something IMO.

How about a corner stair (stair up to a landing, then 90 deg up to the mezzanine) to save some space ?

I dont want to run stairs against the wall since I really don't have a lot of wall space once I put cabinets up. I thought about building a dock for the lift so I would have three steps up to the lift and I can dress up the wheels and stuff underneath it without it looking like a driveable lift?

Thanks! This stuff SMELLS STRONG! My goodness I was at the other end of the driveway with the bobcat operator working on my driveway and I thought there was some lubricant he sprayed on his machine but it was the odor coming out of the garage. It was spilling out of the bottom of big door. The guys were cleaning up the dirt and leaked out the sill. Its shocking out bad it was so far away. I noticed built up dirt got on the floor when they cleaned up. I went in there with only my socks on and swept the dirt down the crack! I can't wait for the paver to finally be done!

The loft is the highlight in my opinion! I will try to get some better pics. At this point I can't put the lift back up there until Friday-ish.

Tomorrow is the "Building Final Inspection". Problem is my drawings and all are up in the loft and I really hate using a ladder getting up there.

went through the whole thread, great building! too bad I missed it before PB blanked your pictures but I watched the time lapses. I am building a mezzanine for my building and had considered a few alternatives for the stairs. I will likely put up a set on a hinge so they can be lifted out of the way as needed. I also bought an order picker to move things around and to do all of my ceiling work, it's similar to a walk behind except the operator platform moves up with the forks. The Nice thing is it has 3000lbs capacity. I plan to find a spot and leave mine there and use it as an elevator. Might be something to consider if you haven't already bought a scissor lift or a forklift. Forgot to mention, you can get a man cage so its safe, and then you can also use it without the man cage as a 3k forklift. here's a picture so you can see what I'm talking about. LINK

The pavers are looking great!

For stairs there have been a couple of installs on here of hinged stairs, kind of a ships embarkation ladder setup. A platform with stairs hinged and a winch above. Might be pretty neat? Have them welded up in steel or aluminum. Functional yet not in the way.

How is the spray foam working out? Keeping temps in check?

PS - I should have read LUTZ's note above before posting....great minds travel the same path or something....

The spray foam is nice but I can still feel some heat from the outside. It has be BLAZING hot down here and I guess across the country as well. Seems to be doing a good job. I don't know how much you have read and saw but the exhaust fan I installed is leaking air and the mezzanine feel hot around it. I am going to build a box out of 2' rigid foam and wrap it for summer and well most months except maybe february :)

The quote I had for hinged stairs was like $8,000 which is nuts! Someone just told me about a spiral stair case for $600 but he said I could probably get it for $300! I might try it and see if I can cut it down to work at 10' 6". Seems like I should be able to?

My offer on a lift from an electrician was declined which is a shame because I really liked it. Someone else has one for less but it has some issues. Its older, has a slight leak and doesn't steer all the way right. I don't think its worth my trouble and I can still shop until one comes up!

You're right but sometimes I have to pick up the kids or get somewhere. I figured it's easier having a large clock I can glance up at. I think it looks good! Im just still trying to figure out cabinets. Also I can't get a lot of stuff in to the garage until the driveway is complete which should be mid week if weather cooperates!

it is a nice clock, just giving you a hard time. I glance at the time on my cell every ten minutes it seems, its hard to be free of "time"

Got the protective boards off the driveway and we had a ton of rain so you can see the driveway a little better with the sand washed away

Moved some stuff in today. Very excited. My diesel John Deere made the entire place smell like a real garage. Not sure how I feel about it. This pic is overlooking the floor from the mezzanine.
