Has anyone bought and really "tested out" the new(ish) Pittsburgh Pro 25" breaker bar ? I know $20 is pretty cheap, but I would rather have someone else bash their knuckles than me ! :D

If that's the one with the gripped handle then yes. I have one and like it better than the other non profit version. Although I have never had an issue out of either of them, so I'm sure you can't go wrong with it.

I think you answered your own question on that. I'm not anti-HF, but for something that by definition, you're gonna be wailing on, I'd stick with one of the truck brands or other good USA made tool (Blackhawk, Williams, Proto, etc).

I'd rather spend $40 on a used American made bar than $20 than one made in Pittsburgh China :)

But its Pittsburgh Taiwan not China, as far as the HF Pro Breaker Bar goes

Used Snap On 24" are going for about $70-$80.

I'll never figure out why Craftsman 3/4" breaker bars are the same length as the 1/2" breaker bar (18").

I've leaned on it pretty hard a few times. Broke a craftsman socket & the bolt itself but not the breaker bar. I'm about 6'1", 230 lbs.

I'm buying one this week sometime. I don't see why it wouldn't last for my needs. If you want to break something no matter what brand is on the side of it you will find a way to break it lol

Most people think twice about pushing the breaking point of a $100 tool vs a $20 tool so they always telling them self it's only 20 so idc. But when it comes to the 100 tool they stop bc they do care so automatically that tool is better bc your using it in the right matter. Not saying in anyway that it's just as good as a snap on but if I'm paying 5 times as much it should be better. Plain and simple.

The proto 24" breaker bar is weak. Square drive shears easily.

I loaned out my Craftsman 3/8" flexhead to a buddy, because he could not get an angle on the bolt. He added a 2-3' cheater and finally moved the bolt.

(I guess I use too much Locktite on it when I put it in ! :lol_hitti )

If I didn't already have the old HF 1/2" breaker bar I'd be grabbing one of those. I've got the 36" 1/2" SK XXL breaker bar but... I'm not really convinced yet with it. It feels awfully wobbly and not really any more rigid than the older style HF. It could just be that it has more leverage and so it flexes as much on a longer span but it's still to be seen if it's really better than a HF.

If its anything like the previous version, should be fine.
I've got a Cman breaker bar which I've bent many times over, super soft...Added a HF so I'd have something I could beat without mercy and I shocked myself...its 4x the bar the CMan ever was.

Funny I should see this, that's exactly what happened to my Proto 24" bar this weekend.

However I should say, I had a long cheater pipe on it trying to break loose the front axle nut on a dodge dakota. After it broke, I went and got the correct size impact socket (32mm) for my impact gun which busted it loose quickly. Should have done that in the first place, oh well.

Hope that helps

Idk if you guys can see these pics. But thats the regular HF breaker bar and a rather large pipe I had on it. Im 195lbs standing on the end of it. Breaker bar was a BEAST. Finally got the nut loose.

I have one and I have used it pretty hard. It has out lasted everything I thrown at it. Definitely worth the money. I sure a $100 tool will be better quality but at $13 I'd have to break 7 of these just to be even. I haven't broken the first one yet.

I have the old version (with the external pivot drive). And i have put a 6 foot pipe on it before. It does have a lot of flex, but never broke or sheared the drive end. I have cracked a socket thou.

Pretty much abused HF breakers for years...no issues. Have the all metal types.
This IMHO is a great place to save money.
Torque wrenches not so much.

I love mine. Put a 7 foot piece of pipe over it to break free axle nuts last week (wasn't a work, no air). Mine is un-killable.

YMMV

There is a lot of ******** and outright speculation about cheap tools but this is the truth about a lot of it today. If you would have said this 25 yrs ago I would have been on the other side. With hindsight have changed my mind about a lot of it.

I have both the old and the new one, never broke, used on some nasty bolts when my impact was out of commission. I didn't care, abused and fully expected to break one, but haven't yet. I also have some brand name ones that I treat nicer, heh.

Btw, only $8.99 right now, coupon code 24672724 valid through 7/11/16. Saw the ad in the May SuperChevy rag. So you can afford to have one laying around or in the truck to take off a flat and leave the high$ bar in your box. :)

New one is on sale this month !

I got mine for $14.99 ! Look like pretty decent quality. It will be months before I will have to use it, but is sure beats the 19" Craftsman I have !
