Found this by accident and maybe I am the last to come across it but thought that it was interesting -- Steevo's bench and the picture from his posting #94 in this thread are shown in the Harbor Freight blog. The picture is not quite half way down the page.

http://blog.harborfreight.com/category/tool-boxes/

The blog also references Garage Journal with a link to http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/

"Visit The Garage Journal or search in Google Images and you’ll find a lot of other great mods employing the U.S. General 44″ 13-Drawer Rolling Tool Cabinet."

Really enjoyed this thread- some great ideas here!
Quick question: for those of you who mounted your boxes quite low to the ground, are you missing the toe kick space? Is it uncomfortable to stand at the bench for a period of time without a space for your toes?

Finished this WB island a few months back. Sitting area has receivers for those occasional jigs, vice, etc. One side services automotive tools and other serves machining tooling. The top is .120 with 2" legs on four sides that simply rests without securing to the two 3/4" BS plywood left over from the shop build.
Excellent choice of materials Steevo! Thanks for sharing too!

The tall one at the very end is sold by harbor freight. The one that's level with the box, I don't know.

And fnieto, nice 40!

I only found this thread today, and I must say there are some great benches that have been built due to Steveo's inspiring build. I hadn't thought about building something like this in the past (I don't own a welder, nor have I done much welding), but I have friends with welders! :)

Great thread, I'm glad I took the time to read through it.

I have placed the drawing files for my workbench on a Google drive where anyone can download them from. Just click on the file and a download icon will appear.

All files are in folders by type under this link:

If you have any trouble copying files from these links, PM me and I'll either send you the files or try to fix the Google drive permissions to get it working right.

Can anyone please confirm the dimensions of the HF 44" box? I'm looking for the exact width and height of the box only, without the wheels since I'll be mounting in a frame similar to Steevo's setup. I'm working up some CAD drawings and this would be a big help.

Looks like Steevo posted the plans one page back in Post 615. It seems to have the box dimensions in it.

Thanks, looks like about 33.75" tall on the drawing. If someone could confirm this, as well as width, that would be awesome.

Also - what guage sheet metal was used on the countertops?

Then came the wood tops.

Hey Steevo, not sure if you mentioned this at all but do you have any issues with not having any support in the direct corner when placing heavier items in the corner? It seems the very corner is just supported by cantilever and am thinking about adding a support under it. Thoughts?

The back corner is supported by 2x4's that are lag bolted into the wall studs on each corner wall. It isn't just hanging in space. The wood top is then screwed into those 2x4's with deck screws.

Looks amazing I will be doing something similar the design is very functional however I think I will use the husky tool chest from Home Depot because it's 329.00 plus I receive a military discount they are 52" instead of 44" have a beautiful black gloss finish comes with a solid wood top that is flush with the perimeter lip and I have a standing two piece 52" 18 drawer tool chest and cabinet that will match

Nitro3421,
That is an awesome setup. I like the overhead cabinets, a lot, too.

What is the rectangular cutout in the top of the workbench for?:

Never mind. I went and read through your build thread and found the "dust collector" mentioned.
That toe-kick vacuum port is cool too!

If you look at his build, I believe he used Newage, Bold series base cabinets, not the wall cabinets.

Correct, I used the base cabinets to gain another ~4" in depth over the standard 12" deep wall versions. I also made my HF cabinets extra deep (26").
