So, I'm still seriously considering this box. I'm struggling because each option I look at, I look at the next step up I could get .... for just a little more $$$.

I like the option of a matching top box for future expansion. It's shown on the Homak site, but not NAPA yet. That would make the stainless top on the bottom box irrelevant I believe though. I'm not sure how much value additional work space on a stainless top would offer for me anyways. My current garage work bench is old thick steel that is pretty much indestructible. I would expect a stainless bench to get beat up pretty easily, no? Maybe you guys use the stainless tops for storage or very light work?

I'm still going back and forth between this, the HF options, or waiting on a good deal for a used truck brand or an industrial box (Lista, Vidmar, ...). Used Snap-on, Mac, Matco seem to still be much higher outside of the much older models. However, I have seen some good prices on Cornwell boxes. Too many options out there:) I'd like this to be a long term box, so a few $$$ here or there doesn't matter for a significant upgrade. If money was the primary concern, I would probably just keep expanding by adding more of the HF 44" boxes (my current box).

I see the tops mor of a countertop, Ideal for some tools while in use, notebook, parts inspection/setup new and old etc etc.
It certainly better than the HF boxes, used truck brand is nice and I've had a few over the years but harder find good deals as internet made selling easy and prices and sellers crazy .
The thing that needs drive the decision is your needs, let layout, size and expansion options that best for your needs make final choice.

Imho, this is the best new box under $2000. The SS top just adds to that value. There is a top chest available... But yes Napa doesn't list it yet. You have to buy directly from homak; and it isn't cheap. If you need the top chest, you may want to consider the overall cost to value. I think you would be at 2600 for the set (Napa bottom/homak top)

Any update on how that box is working out? I’m currently shopping for an affordable 72” box for my ranch’s shop!

Also had a few questions on this. Tried sending Personal Message but never stated it went through. Wanted to relay some information I have found as well as hoping Zivman can chime in on this.

Zivman,

I am on the fence of the HF 72 that my co worker has had for 1.5 years and has held up well, plus readily available (45 min drive).

He has been content with his but I am looking for an alternative option and the Napa Quarterly ad came out with the RS-Pro that has caught my eye and I'd like to ask you a few questions if you do not mind. No one locally has one for me to check out first hand.

1. I contacted Homak and was sent a brochure on the box stating Drawer (width, depth, height and slide count). I saw in one of your pictures that your wide top drawer (ad states 50" wide x 21.25" deep, and 3.75" tall) has 2 slides per side (4 TOTAL). My brochure says in only has 2 TOTAL? Can you confirm that I am correct that it does in fact have 4 slides TOTAL?

2. If the above is true, what other drawers have 4 TOTAL slides? Id guess the 3 bottom drawers that are the tallest?

3. Pictures appear that the drawers are taller than the brochure mentions, so i compared the measurement you took for another gentleman in another thread I can't seem to find. The brochure states 32" x 21.25" x 1-1/2 tall as the (4) middle bank drawer dimensions where you had a clearance measurement of 2-7/16" clearance. My assumption is that the dimension they list for "height" is the side of the drawer height but not actual tool clearance based on your findings. Can you confirm?

4. If my assumption for drawer height is in fact true, would you be able to get a "drawer height/clearance" measurement for any of the 3 very bottom drawers? Brochure drawer height on these comes in at 8-1/2"

I will more than likely be going through with this purchase after a few questions are confirmed. I haven't been able to source one locally to get my hands on it.

In same boat, but no one has any around/in stock to put my hands on. Not a fan of the HF latch mechanism, of course want something other than red like my co workers, like the carts Homak has as well because... I've got to match :bounce:

Got a response via PM from Zivman.... here are his responses per my questions.

#1... They refer to 2 slides as 2 sets of slides. Yes top long drawer has 4

#2...The long top drawer has two sets(4) and the 3 drawers across the bottom have two sets (4) each. All other drawers have a single set (2).

#3... Measured from the inside of the drawer the sidewall is 1.5"

#4...bottom drawers will clear 9"

Thanks gregpack. Look forward to your response and opinion of the box. I'm thinking I will be ordering one shortly as well.

Having my local Napa/Riebes see if the green or orange option is available at the same pricing.

I have had the 56" harbor freight box for a few years now and the latches do ****. I have probably broken about half of them from just normal finger pressure. i am looking for something to replace them all with but with no luck yet.

Got an answer from Napa/Riebes....

The orange and green are not colors that are part of the Quarter one "REAL DEALS". They can get them but not at the promotion price.

So now the decision of blue or black.... Hmmm

Well, after nearly a month my big blue box finally came in! It's on the back of my truck right now but I have to get some help to unload it. I've got a liftgate but its too big to safely unload it by myself. Ill try to take some pictures and post them in the next few days.

I can already say that I would have gladly paid $100 extra for home delivery :)

Definitely looking forward to pictures! I would like to know if the drawers extend all the way out, and exactly how deep (front to back) the drawers are.

They extend all the way out. Measure about 21"6807aa1f1a02a2e423d263907911a860.jpg4a43fc2d4a5c2ad203bd4355b9bb2b41.jpg

I take it that you lift up on the pull to release the drawer latch? Like Craftsman Griplatch? Do the drawers just glide out nice and smooth?

I was checking out a couple Homak boxes at NAPA and the drawers need to be jerked to overcome the slide latch. Then they slide but with a little resistance. At first I thought it was just a bad drawer ..... but every drawer on two different types of box did the same.

The drawers with two sets of slides need to be pulled a bit to get them open. Granted mine have little weight in the drawes and mine is still fairly new (little use). But they do glide very smooth imho.

Got my new "big blue" box unloaded and unpacked today They pack it very well at the factory. Overall it seems sturdy enough.

As you can imagine its very unwieldy and requires a lot of room to move around. I wouldn't want to move it on a regular basis, especially when loaded with tools. My current thought is I'm going to lighten up my cart by just having the basics for light automotive maintenance on it. This new 72" box is actually going to be my where I keep my SAE tools (not needed on my truck), general tool overflow box, and work counter.

Overall, Its a nice box for the money. I would much rather have this that the harbor freight box . There are a few things I don't like about this box, but I can live with it

I threw a few tools in here to give you guys a sense of scale and hopefully that will answer questions about what will fit in the various drawers.

Here's a pic next to a snap on box and as you can see the color is a little more "purply"

hiKvZX.jpg

The top drawer is tall enough for these Kobalt socket trays or the ernst socket boss system with 1/2" deep well sockets

The stainless top is actually a stainless cover over a particle board top. I guess the upside to this is that you could remove and replace with solid wood or another material in the future:

YF797d.jpg

I wish the majority of drawers were a little deeper, even if it meant one less row of drawers. My pliers organizer will not fit in the shortest drawers. So the pliers will have to go in one of the few deeper drawers or lay flat. However, my wrenches stored in a wrench organizer fit with no issues.

Bxb1G0.jpg

The deeper drawers will likely be where I'll keep my power tools

I also found out quickly that that latch system can jam. When you load tools in the box you have to be careful not to put anything under the latch that will impede it's movement. I closed this drawer and it took me a few minutes to figure out why it was stuck closed. I had to move my box in just a little and that resolved the problem.

Overall, when you consider the warranty offered by Homak I think its a better value than the HF box.

Man that’s a nice looking box. Thanks for the the pics.
Are you guys buying this from NAPA? It’s not on their website and homak has it listed for $2k

I think they are different than what I checked out. Definitely from a different Homak line but I thought maybe Homak used the same slides on everything. The ones I checked out have the pulls that look like they have a black horizontal stripe along the center.

Yes, Napa has them in their quarterly real deals catalog It also lists them as a "napa exclusive" so I'm not sure they're available anywhere else right now.

Gregpack,

Thank you for the input and pictures. I think the blue is still a good looking color as well.

Gregpack... I think the biggest downfall is the latch mechanism. The masterforce boxes place the latch outside the drawer. The homak being on the inside is less than desirable, but hey, can't have everything

For anyone that has this box, are the drawers really 24 inches deep and are the drawer handles painted black or is it some sort of black wrap? I'm really considering one of these boxes.

Those look like very good choices and a good value when truly comparing the other options available in the size and cost category. Being the owner of several high end tool cabs, I would have definitely looked at these if they had been on the market when I was in the market. I am trying to steer my son in law in this direction as well

So the top isn’t stainless? Or it is but it’s just on top of particle board? Is it sturdy? I’m planning to get the top later on but will be needing to use the top as somewhat of a workbench till then.

It's stainless... With wood core.

Yes it's sturdy

Not sure how or why people would think it would be 1" - 1 1/2" of solid stainless.

The box is 24" deep
Drawers are a little short of 21" actual space.

I ordered a blue one today. They actually hit me with a freight charge to get the box from ABQ to PHX. Luckily, someone else ordered one too so they are letting me split the freight charge with him. I also convinced my Napa to deliver it to my house free of charge. I'll report back with more when it gets delivered next week.

I didn't pay shipping charges, but it took three weeks to show up at my local NAPA. I would have gladly paid an extra 50-100 for it to show up at my door with a liftgate truck.

Gregpack. That's exactly what I was thinking concerning the lift gate. They said az stores feed into CA supply lines and NM deals with another state. I was surprised to be hit with the fee also.

Yo Colin,

I'm ordering mine in about three weeks. I was told by the local NAPA that they had one in the warehouse and I wouldn't have to pay the extra shipping.

Mdlee.. lol lucky you. I forgot about the fact that it scores you about 14 rewards points. You instantly get about 70 bucks towards your next purchase. Make sure you have that before you pay.
