Plus, you already had your receipt. It is no longer their merchandise. You own it. I am surprised she tried to stop you, thats just a way to start ****. I would still call corporate.

Ya she literally ripped the receipt out of my hand, that's when I got pissed and started yelling at her

Fair is fair, you had already paid for the item and had a receipt for your merchandise. If that's what the pricing system rang it up as - that's not your fault as the customer, you don't set the prices. I would have told her to eat dirt too.

BTW Menards is running the 11% rebate on "everything, even sale prices", is Home Depot corporate going to do the rebate match again?

Wow -- I had no idea that it had actually gotten this bad.

I guess we're at a point where we have to rip the receipt out of the machine and immediately shove it into our wallet where they can't get a hold of it. And when they ask to see the receipt, tell them to review the transaction in the computer because you have no intention of surrendering your proof of ownership.

Thanks for posting those pics.

Just got 3 husky 27" intermediate chests for a penny each. Got 1 with a bunch of other stuff, made it out no problem. Went back in for the other 2, paid with 2 pennies at SCO, got my receipt, then the SCO lady tried to stop me. She said "we can't sell these for a penny", took one out of my cart, and started scanning it to find the last clearance price. I then got pissed and started yelling at her, saying they have to sell it for whatever it scans as. She called over some department manager who tried to stop me also. I threatened to call corporate, and she called the store manager. Within 15 seconds she said "have a nice day" and I left with them.

I have been in that situation. My response to we can't sell you that was to show the receipt and say "you already did"
They did not argue after that

It's amazing to me how many employees insist on taking this personally. It's not money out of their pockets. And if it was - like if they were shareholders - they need to hassle corporate or inventory mgmt.

What you're seeing could be envy on the part of some store employees. Unlike the tool guys, who can hide inventory from customers so they can get the bargains, the cashiers may not have that opportunity. Cashiers stand at the registers all day long, they see other people getting great deals, they feel they should be getting them too, but they're not getting them. Although some people feel good about it when they see someone else having good luck, there are other people who don't like to see other people have good fortune. It's in those peoples' nature to try to spoil a good deal that happens for someone else.

Another possibility is that the managers are just riding the cashiers on penny deals that go through. I think that if the store lets a penny deal go out the door then the manager can get dinged for not having good inventory management in his store. Instead of doing a good job at inventory management, so the penny deals can't happen, some managers try to use the cashiers to stop the penny deals. When they catch them at checkout they often try to force a price markup to the most recent discounted price.

Essentially, a manager with crappy inventory control can try to shove responsibility onto the cashiers for letting penny items out of the store, which really isn't fair to the cashier. And trying to mark up to the most recent discounted price certainly isn't fair to the customer. When the bar code reads out as a penny, then you should refuse to pay anything more than that.

That also might be why they are hesitant about price matching on the dewalt tool chest. Manager is thinking no way I can sell it for more than that. The store I went to tried to get a price match manager said no way. Said i will sell them for marked price that was 3 weeks ago he still has them sitting. Gonna try again tomorrow t see if he has softened up any.

They are still out there to be found! Same store told me a couple of weeks ago when I bought a couple sprayers for a penny "you can't buy that" I held up my receipt and said I already did! She got mad and said just go. Stopped today thinking for sure they would have pulled the rest. Found one more in the same spot!

some people just like showing off how smart they are. this thread may be monitored by HD corporate already. it would be wiser if people didn't share their experiences but posted deals instead.
All this price matching, transfer sales and other loopholes may force HD to tighten their policies.

It's just a matter of time before the HD gate closes. What gets posted on the net is available to anyone to see from the janitor to the CEO.

maybe
but if the information in this thread was kept to a minimum - SKU, description and price it would draw less attention than an instruction on how to save $3000 via return rebuy with receipt attached.. whenever the latter is posted there dozens if not hundreds trying to replicate the deal and that probably draws lots of attention

No scores today. I got all excited when I saw about 10 Dewalt dw745 table saws they even had the red sticker like the old black friday ones. Unfortunately they were all 299 in the system. *****. Also said they had 3 Milwaukee impact drivers for 58 bucks but I looked everywhere and couldn't find them. Had a couple yellow dewalt tool boxes but they were still full price. Gonna have to keep an eye out.

But also on the whole keep it a secret thing, while I wish that was possible if you google home depot clearance deals this thread is like 4 down on the main search. I'm sure countless thousands and thousands of people have seen it. Most just don't care or have the time to look.

I'm actually surprised that Home Depot hasn't done something to eliminate penny deals. I don't understand why they don't leave the item at the lowest clearance price until the point they remove it from inventory or do whatever they are supposed to do with it when it reaches a penny.

I wonder if the employees know or have a way of seeing penny items. Buying them at the end of a shift and reselling on Craigslist or eBay would be a great supplementary income.

Ain't gonna happen. I've pulled up penny deal threads on other websites from 3-4 years back.

Can somebody point me to the appropriate page of this thread explaining how this works? Just a basic overview. I live up the street from an HD and would love to get some of these deals..

Left three husky 1/2 impacts for someone else. In clearance section. Had different prices on all three.
Told one guy walking buy they were 20.00 and he said thanks and took one.

One another note....

I have seen this item as on order in stores all around. Walked in today and found some. The sticker on the isle said 14.** when I went to check out they rang 9.** I showed the lady they were 3.** on the screen ten feet away.

She called one young dude and he was baffled and said hold on. He walks back to tools talking on phone with the tool guy and comes back a minute later and said there is something wrong with these. They are the 9.**

Didn't argue really since the sticker says 14.** and online says 9.** what case would I have to get 3.**

Just got back from my HD zero yellow tags. Found this stores hiding spot i think. one big area on top shelf with everything on that shelf had tags on it that said DNI do not inventory. Could not find anyone to pull it down. And no orange ladders to check it out myself. Will be going back tomorrow talking to manager. they had dewalt, milwaukee.ryobi, and other various names up there.

I had the opposite happen to me today. Saw the Weber Silver charcoal grills for $58 on the price check app. When I checked out, they rang up $28 (a price i had seen at other stores). Went back and bought the last one as well for a total of 3!

Those dewalt knives get really interesting at that price point. There is also a combo set with a tape measure and knife that should be going down as well.

FYI - my haul for this week was about 7 dyson vacuums (several already sold), and 3 weber silver charcoal grills, plus the $49 bostitch compressor w/guns from lowes. Oh probably some nails and nailers that count as this week as well. I have vacation coming up in the beginning of August and this will help fund it nicely. We will be traveling the world's longest yardsale and I will be sure to do a bit of clearance shopping at towns along the way.

As I read that, it applies only to groceries and grocery store sundry items, not to tools. :(
It's posted at their customer service desk. Id still reference it if I had to. I doubt it's there to show you its for grocery items only

A brief rant:

The first rule of playing the game is to be smart enough to know that you never show your opponents your playbook.

I couldn't believe it when somebody showed an HD store manager how to find clearance items in the price check app. It's as if he didn't think through what he was actually doing. Only two results could possibly come from doing that: 1) some stores will put more effort into blocking customer access to the computers; even though this is contrary to official HD policy, it is clear that this practice does get implemented in some stores; and 2) HD employees will start using our own computer search methods to start cherry-picking even more of the merchandise we're looking for.

If you're going to play the game, everyone please be smart enough to realize that you don't go telling your opponent how to beat you. :headshake Whatever you do, DO NOT tell them about the GJ Home Depot thread. Now that all of our other secrets have been given out, this thread is one of the few plays left in the playbook that they might not already know.

If a store employee asks where you keep finding all of the closeout prices, please don't tell him the truth. Make up a good excuse, like your brother called you on the phone, or something else that's believable ... but don't give them any useful intelligence. Remember -- whatever you say can and will be used against you. Sometimes the best approach is to just remain silent. Sometimes it's good to practice the art of ... :stfu:

That's how you get the Price Check app shut down. In Manchester, NH you can't search for anything at all in Price Check. Just says "item not found" for everything.

May I be the first to tell you that you **** !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:rocker:

The tool guy in South Portland, Maine got pissed that I found those Bostitch nails for 44 cents. The black case on the left is an empty case for a Bostitch finish nailer. They let me have it free
