I made someone happy today. I started out the morning. I got up at 5am this morning and went on the hunt for an M18 grinder and circ saw. I searched every store in the area. 5 total. No luck. One store had them at full price and all of the others were sold out.

One store I went in the tool guy was looking though the clearance stuff. I asked him if he was putting out new stuff. He replied that he had been out for two day and he was checking to see what deals were in there. I guess we know where a lot of the deals go. I searched the store and found three DeWalt tool box sets. They were still in the box wrapped up in shrink wrap in top stock. Not any where near the tool department. It was priced at $90.04 for the top and $135.09 for the bottom. I asked if they could price match the closest store which was at $88.03 and $68.03. The tool guy said he needed to get the department head. She came out and talked to me I asked if I could transfer to my store so I could buy it at the lowest clearance price. After talking to me a while she said that she would match one or me. I said ok I want to purchase it. I said that I had to drive home and get my truck and could I go ahead and pay for it. She said that's not nessicary and that she would be there until 1pm. They would pull it down and get it ready. She instructed the tool guy to go pull 1 down and put it aside for me.

I left drove home got my truck and made it back by 12:30. I went in and looked and both pallets were no longer in top stock. I found the same tool guy. When I found him he said your too late all of the sold. He said it with an attitude. I said I just drove 100miles to go get my truck. Just like we discussed. I asked to speak with the department head again. He called her up there. Apparently he took it upon himself to pull all three sets down and put them right up front next to the registers. She asked him why he didn't set the one aside like he was instructed. He said he didn't know if I was coming back. I asked to speak with the manager. She told the manager that I did just go drive all the way to get my truck with a promise to get one down for me. She even admitted that I wanted to pay for them at the time.

The manger said he was sorry and he would see if he could locate one for me. He was really nice and he did seem to try to locate another one. He asked if he could substitute another box. All they had was crappy husky boxes. He ended up giving me a good deal on a Milwaukee led light. The person that screwed me was the tool guy. I feel like he called someone and told them to come buy the tool boxes. He had an attitude the min I came back in the door. When the manager looked one person bought two of the sets and someone came a little later and bought the last one.

Did someone in here buy a DeWalt today?
Says there are two in NW Raleigh in the mobile pro app.

Dude that really, really *****. I once had a similar situation where I needed to go get my truck (only about 10 miles round trip though) and asked to pay for them and they said the same thing that it wasn't necessary. I had little confidence in that response and insisted that I pay for them then (which I did) so I wouldn't roll back up to find them all sold. Sorry that happened. I'd be livid....

Sorry for your loss, that *****. I would have bought all 3 sets for that price.

Thanks. Yes I was livid. I was kicking myself for not insisting on paying right then. The tool guy was being a but by putting them out front next to the registers. I heard the department head specifically tell him to pull down one for me and put it aside.

This was the light the manager discounted for me. He was really nice the only guy with an attitude was the tool guy.

That ***** big time...such a killer deal to slip away from your hands...

First rule of any clearance or killer price shopping....Buy it first, ask question later as you can return it any time....once its yours....it would be set aside as sold sign with your name, receipt and no one would be able to take it away......

consider this a painful learning experience....You could have rented a truck, or HD uhaul trailer there...100 miles is a big commitment.... good luck on next trip.

Good idea of renting a HD truck....an extra $20 and use HD's gas and you would have been home free...

They found that for me, But it's only the top boxes.

That's a 230 mile round trip for me. I have to try to schedule a trip over there. Between work and a newborn baby I can't drop everything and go right now.

Thanks for the tip though. :rocker:

That is like doing an internet order. I was not there today

Man I wish there was more than one store within 50 miles of me, kinda ***** having to depend on one store. Other than a couple of .50 collated nails (I'm NOT complaining),I haven't been able to find any killer deals. I really appreciate you guys posting what's out there, someday I'll score.
Went to my local HD @ 6 this AM. Was looking up stuff on their computer when the tool manager ( who's seen me there before) asks me "on what web site are you finding these prices?" ( No stock, mind you, just great prices)I said let me show you. I then gave him a 1 minute lesson on his computer. He thanked me and walked away. I found it odd the tool guy wasn't aware of the apps on the store computer.
Anyway, thanks again guys for posting up. It gives me something to hunt for. If I find anything to write home about, I'll be sure and post it here.

Yeah, you guys aren't screwing around in your bargain hunts!

Knowing that there's people like you out there, it gives me less hope that I'll be scoring any deals as a guy with a 8-5.

I don't blame the guys that came in and bought the boxes sitting up next to the registers. I would have done the same thing.

I blame the jerk tool guy. You could tell he had a smirk on his face when he told me they were all sold. I felt like slapping the smirk off of his face.

This guy told me he was hunting for deals when I first saw him. Oh this store was showing one Bosch laser in stock on clearance. This employee couldn't find it anywhere. Big surprise. I bet if I went back tomorrow they would show 0 on hand.

I drove over 200 miles today. I left at 5 am. I drove the car the first time to save on gas. I can't do this all the time. I got it lined up and was going to try hard to find a Milwaukee M18 grinder and circ saw at the $.03 price.

At some point it's would be cheaper to just buy the stuff on eBay.

A cool DeWalt toolbox would have sure made me smile every time I walked in the workshop.

Wiped out Seabrook, NH today. 4 Bostitch Brad nailers, 1 coil siding and fencing nailer, and 2 coil framing nailers.

They still have 3 or 4 Bostitch flooring nailers for $55, I didn't take them. They were also showing a bunch of other clearance nailers that I couldn't find, but I didn't exactly spend much time looking.

Aside from that, they were showing 1 laser level and 1 Milwaukee 1/4 impact. I took a quick spin around and didn't see them, but like I said I didn't spend a lot of time there.

44 cent nails in the price app, but there were none in the clearance area. There are nails in the rafters on both sides of the nailer aisle, so I suspect there are a lot up there.

I'll take another trip when I have more time, but if anyone in the area wants to hit it up, you're guaranteed 3 or 4 flooring nailers, and I think a Paslode cordless nailer. 1 of the flooring nailers is in the rafter above the nailers, 2 more are out on the floor to the side of the pro desk, along with 1 display model.

My haul for the last couple days and about 5 or 6 stores was the Bostitch 18ga finish nailer, the Bostitch narrow crown stapler, and a Bosch laser level.

Over the past couple days, my experience in the stores has been fairly positive. I've asked at several stores if they have a computer to check homedepot.com and they've either pointed me to a public terminal, or even let me use one of theirs. Workers in the tool department have been scarce, but fairly nice when it comes to fetching items on the ladder.

The 18ga finish nailer was a bare tool, stuffed on the bottom shelf behind the Milwaukee 18v stuff. I was actually looking for the Milwaukee impact driver and stumbled upon the nailer. Didn't feel real bad for whoever attempted to stash it. Funny thing was it was actually tagged with a yellow sticker as a narrow crown stapler (which is another item I was looking for). I was so excited, I didn't realize it was mistagged until I was out in the parking lot. Still ok as it's replacing a Bostitch 18ga nailer without the smart point. This store also took a HF 20% off coupon to make it even better.

2nd store I went to had the Dewalt DS400 and DS150, but at full price. I'll be checking back in for those suckers...

The narrow crown stapler was at another store, which showed an inventory of 1. Found it perched waaaaay up top, on top of the Bostitch flooring nailer boxes. Once I found someone, they were fairly willing to go up and get it and mentioned I was getting a great deal.

The laser level was at yet another store, and was located on with the other Bosch laser levels but on the shelf about 8' off the ground. I'm 6'8", so I helped myself.

That being said, I now have 2 of the laser levels and 2 of the narrow crown nailer. Still no Milwaukee impact driver, and not looking hopeful according to the price checker app (all stores show 0).

Anyone with an extra impact driver kit want to trade for a narrow crown stapler and a laser level?

Another thing I noticed was there was a number of Makita drill and impact kits with a yellow sticker. Only $30 or so off as I recall, but maybe something to watch. They were out in the open, so they may not make it to further clearance.

Anyway, appreciate the deals folks are finding, I'll try to do the same if I find something not mentioned.

CJ, you got screwed by a mischievous employee and the manager knows it. I would not have left the store without an equivalent make-up offering. How much did you lose on that transaction? $100? Then the manager should have given you a $100 discount on anything else in the store. If you didn't get satisfaction before leaving hte store, I would call corporate and complain. Tell the the exact story that you told here -- that you wanted to pay in advance and go get your truck, that the supervisor guaranteed to hold one for you, and an employee screwed you on purpose. Ask corporate to come up with an accommodation for you. Be sure to tell them that you drove 100 miles only to get screwed. I think they'll come through for you.

Been following this thread for a couple of weeks, as I am always trying to expand my tool collection. Do to limited time I haven't been able to "hunt" as much as I want. First time out no luck with the computer, but I took your advice and used my eyes. Came across a Bostitch Strap Shot MCN250S for $68, walked around a little and looking up and spotted another one. I have no use for them so if anyone would like to make a trade for one let me know. uploadfromtaptalk1437275193626.jpguploadfromtaptalk1437275816025.jpg

I've never seen a box of nails even on sale. I check the computer in the store it shows a few for pennies but always gone.

To the guy above that found nails in the tool rental area did you know part numbers or did that computer show some in stock?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk
Didn't know the part number, just recently discovered they sell nails in the tool rental section, so decided to check out since hadn't been to that one. Nails were showing 50c on the tag on the shelf.

One thing I did forget to mention was the 10 boxes of Hitachi nails I did find, they showed 0 in the computer. I didn't see any of that sku on on display with a price, so I jotted down the number and skipped over to the computer to look it up, along with the Bostitch nail sku in the box next to them. Surprise, both showed qty.0 on hand, but there they were...all 10 boxes of on sku! So yes, just because it says 0 on hand doesn't mean they don't have them.

Spent 6 hours on the road today hit 8 stores total was able to get a new Dyson DC40 in the box for 100 bucks about 12 total boxes of nails, and 4 pool door alarms for 6 bucks each. No more nails anywhere except passload and Hitachi not at the 44 cent price yet gonna keep an eye out for them.

Gonna stop going out to the stores for a bit

Because of the risk of getting burned, anytime I need to purchase a large item at HD (most of the time I'm in my commuter car) I have them deliver for $20. I don't even mess with renting their truck. They use their rental trucks to deliver within 50 miles.

In hind sight that would have been the thing to do. I wish I had realized that. It wasn't worth the time/gas for $20. I wish I could turn time back and handle this differently.

You got so screwed by that jackass. That *****. I wouldn't be a bit surprised.... no, I WOULD be surprised if he didn't call someone to come buy them. I don't trust them old farts. Never have.

Every single tool department guy I've ever encountered gave a negative vibe. It's like he knows, that I know, that he knows, about the deals. When they see me walking down the aisles, looking up in the rafters, they INSIST on trying to find out what I'm looking for. I always say, "nothing, just browsing". Just like the guy who was overheard bitching about the nails that Jhans504 bought.

Every time I see one of them, I feel like Seinfeld when he hears someone mention Newman's name.

The conversations get to be a bit of a psychological game. But that is the hard part for both employees and customers. Everyone wants a deal.

Yeah, but there's a big difference in us and them. The guys working there, that are pulling the shenanigans, are being dishonest and violating their employer's guidelines.

I realize there has been discussions about some of the members here and their deal "opportunities". Unlike those aforementioned employees, the majority of us here, are playing by the rules.

I took a vacation with the family this past week and during the trip I made time for a couple of stops at Home Depot. I didn't have much luck but I did find a couple of Delta faucets 35984LF-BN. I paid 30.03. Didn't get a chance to get any pics, sorry.

I do have another question about a Paslode Fuel and Nail combo pack that I picked up a couple weeks ago. It has an expiration date of 2011. How much does that matter? Thanks.

Wow that's been sitting around for a while. Never even thought about checking that. I never picked any up..you would think HD would have kept up on the expiration dates, just like their paint. I don't know how much that affects their usability though.

Aren't you lucky.

One day I'll find a cheap framer like that. I've found some staplers I bought and passed along to people that needed. Waiting on someone to post a framer here

Great find. Sku.....?

For the 6-piece blade set: 343254

The free 5-pack has at least six different SKUs. All of them qualify; general purpose, nail-embedded wood, demolition, and metal cutting in 6" or 9" lengths.

These promos are usually decent little deals that many people pass right by. Just look for the poster sized placards that are posted on the shelving. Occasionally there will be a display at the front of the store. I've gotten a Milwaukee reciprocating blade deal a few months ago (free 9-piece with purchase of 12-piece), a BOGO Diablo circular saw blade, and other stuff. You do usually have to inform the employee that it's a promotion, though. The discount is automatically applied.

As an aside, the ignorance of employees when it comes to these promo deals is amazing. Cashiers have a sheet containing barcodes for them, but reading comprehension is not a strong suit for HD employees. I had to show a manager the display for the Milwaukee blades after a cashier kept trying to scan a barcode for a Sawzall. Yesterday the cashier took a few minutes looking back and forth between the sheet and the blades before telling me that my blades weren't the right ones. She was looking at a finish saw blade promo--the reciprocating saw blades were just below it. When I pointed it out she still seemed unconvinced and hesitant. The "smart" ones just scan multiple codes until one works.

Aren't you lucky.

One day I'll find a cheap framer like that. I've found some staplers I bought and passed along to people that needed. Waiting on someone to post a framer here

Sorry he asked me to post a price pic for the flooring nailer. I posted a pic of a Hitachi framer 2 days ago

Are the ds150 and ds400 the "dewalt top and bottom boxes" guys are referring to? How cheap do they get?

Just got 3 husky 27" intermediate chests for a penny each. Got 1 with a bunch of other stuff, made it out no problem. Went back in for the other 2, paid with 2 pennies at SCO, got my receipt, then the SCO lady tried to stop me. She said "we can't sell these for a penny", took one out of my cart, and started scanning it to find the last clearance price. I then got pissed and started yelling at her, saying they have to sell it for whatever it scans as. She called over some department manager who tried to stop me also. I threatened to call corporate, and she called the store manager. Within 15 seconds she said "have a nice day" and I left with them.

Plus, you already had your receipt. It is no longer their merchandise. You own it. I am surprised she tried to stop you, thats just a way to start ****. I would still call corporate.

No

They are talking about the dealt tool chests. The metal ones with wheels about 40" wide.
