That also might explain why I haven't seen a thing on any of these stores. That and other GJers.

Penny question, when I find a item I think is a penny I take it to SCO, push price check and if it comes up as 1 penny I add it to transaction and quickly pay for it and go.
If I have 5 penny items and check out using the price check way, will the 2nd through 5th item just be added to the transaction or will it trigger a see manager screen?
Thanks

Take the 5 penny item sku to the computer, price check app... And if no results,, it's almost always a penny item.

No, you're missing the question, I know i can buy 1 at the SCO using price check and then add to transaction without the See Manager message screen coming up. What I don't know is if I have 5 penny jacks and do a price check on the first one and then add to transaction, when I scan the next 4 jacks will I get the dreaded See Manager Screen on those? I would like to buy and get out before anyone notices.

Not always. You can do it that way. I've scanned a bunch. But best not to be too greedy at once. Small bites. I think that message only comes up for specific stuff.

The problem is I have to buy these jacks all at once, because once I get someone to get them off of the highest 3rd tier rack, if I leave them somewhere they will be gone pretty Quickly and the store is 30 miles away.

If you can make a few trips and think it will be less suspicious, then do that. What would I do? I would load them all into a cart and go for it, and hope for the best.. but that's just me. :3gears:

Found a Echo CS-370 chainsaw at one store (no SKU available, I don't think it was ever sold in stores). First manager claims she can't sell it because it's missing a part which makes it a "liability issue" (duh, every friggin display model is missing something). 6 weeks later (yeah, it's still in the store), another manager claims it's reconditioned, but can't find the SKU for it anywhere (no it's not reconditioned, and if it was, it would have a SKU engraved on it. It's also still missing the same part). So this manager says he can sell it but the other says she can't. The completely contradict each other. Brought it up to corporate to find out what the deal is with this saw and why the managers are all giving me BS stories. Now when I walk in that store, EVERY employee watches me.

This is why it is not always worth it to be the squeaky wheel. I like to fly under the radar whenever possible, so I don't get noticed when I am browsing for penny items.

I have bought and sold about 8 of the 1 1/2 ton Aluminum racing Jacks and I know the sku as well as the writing on the box Pretty Well.
They are a pretty easy sale at $50

As others have said, IF the store does what they are supposed to, the penny items you leave behind will likely get pulled from the shelves. I bought 2 Nutones a few weeks ago and left 2 on the shelf to get the following day. They were pretty high up and pushed back out of sight. Came back the next day and they were gone.

What amazes me is how there stores operate as silos and there must be zero communication between managers. How can this be a huge problem if the manager of one store makes a big deal out of an item but I can go to another store 10 min away 2 weeks later and find the same item. Quasi rant lol

Can any of these mark down bargains be discovered online or are store visits/searches required?

I'm looking to retire an old chop saw and am looking for a reasonable 14" replacement.

yea some things to watch for in display models..
Nailers = make sure they didn't drill a hole in it (some stores do, some don't)
Cordless tools + outdoor power equipment = if there's a battery installed, it's usually dead. I suspect that some of these are empty batteries and can't be revived.
Corded power tools = ask to plug it in and make sure it works.

I watched the milwaukee rep change out batteries on echo yard equipment. They made newer batteries and when he put the new one in he ran the tool until it died.He sent the old batteries back east. ITT owns the battery technology for the echo equipment. He does not glue any of his batteries.

Goto the store. You need to use the PCA on their instore computer. Today woman was working next to computer but not using so i aksed her if she minded if I hopped on. Of course she thought "regular" HD website is where I was going. I then explained to her I needed to use the PCA. She was cool as hell!!Just couldn't believe it even existed. She had worked their for years she said, and knew nothing about it. And I'm seeing that that is really the trend. It seems most employees don't know anything about that app.

Also, you better believe there are many deal hunters in orange shirts!! I've met quite a few that say that's the biggest reward for working there. Today was a good day..will post up some pics a little later. Treadmill is calling me now:(.

Showing the employees the price check app is the best way to have all the deals snatched before you have a chance.

I used to be a regional vendor for Lowes. If the mentality is the same with store employees at HD as it was at Lowes. Trust me. The deals you're getting now will stay the same. and are absolutely nothing compared to what the employees are getting.

Went to look for light fixtures and found the 2', 3' and 4' one-bulb T5 strip fixtures were marked down to $5, $6, and $7 respectively. Originally $20+, comes with a bulb.

Without thinking, I cleaned them out. 20 of the 2-footers, 4 of the 3-footers, another 4-5 of the 4-footers. Now I have no idea what I'll do with them.

If you decide to try buying them all at once grab one of the lumber carts with the thigh-high platform. You can stack the jack boxes on there with the bar codes all lined up in the right direction and that'll make it easier to scan them all fairly quickly at SCO since the cart is about the same height as the SCO scanner. Lifting those jacks out of the regular shopping cart is cumbersome since they're heavy and the box lid is not secured to the box.

Has anyone seen the safes/gunsafes go on clearence?

They had them on Clearance for the "deal of the day" I think on this past Friday or Saturday. It was the second time I've seen them listed as the deal of the day this year.

Here's a picture of todays haul..Grabbed a Porter Cable framing nailer for $50,sku 0000-166-779. Can't believe I found this one since it goes back 1 yr according to tag. Also grabbed (2) Bostitch crown staplers, sku 281-356.They were $28 each. And 1 Porter Cable crown stapler, sku 326-624.This one is actually currently on sale regular $90ish but it was up in rafters, dusty, along with the 2 Bostitch so he gave it to me for $30.So all in all, along with other stuff pictured was a decent day.

The 205 pc socket set has dropped to $50 here in KC. North Overland Park has 10 or so left. Go get em

Found two of these in the PCA for $25.02. Picked one up and left the other to see if I can get my first penny deal in a week or two. They were stacked on the 134 piece sets and still had the $99 tag on them.

Also picked up a Ryobi One+ 18v 18" cordless hedge trimmer last week for $25.03.

One local store still has four Husky quiet compressors at $99, waiting to see if they drop.

Your biggest mistake of the day was showing a store employee the app on the computer.

3 compressors in the rafters when they where 90.04 sunday pretty well out of view on a pallet with other dewalt tools, only showed 1 on hand today and the price dropped yesterday. Someone moved the last one 3 Aisles over and shrink wrapped it on another pallet. Someone at that store isn't going to be happy lol.

I Picked up a drill doctor yesterday for 50.00 down from 99.99. Funny thing is that the clearance date was from July of 2015. I thought for sure it might be lower, but no dice (i didn't have time to check the computer). I have always wanted one and for 50.00, I wasn't complaining.

Just picked up a Rheem 40 gal Gas water heater, open box for 305. Well, it was slightly dented at the bottom, open/no box so they had it at 25%, new never used. Asked and they brought it down 30%. And just 20 bucks for delivery. Sure it's not a clearance buy but damn does it feel good to have 120 bucks off a mandatory item.

Why in the world would you show an employee how to use the PCA?
That was not a wise move

Trust me I hear you, but this was an older woman who honestly could care less. I'll be back there tomorrow to snag a deal I left since I didn't know how it would sell..was to in a hurry to look it up right there on the spot.
