I had an interesting experience at the Dan Ryan, Chicago store this morning. I went in and was looking for the 1.5 ton Husky Jack (they had 10 last week). I was browsing the overheads and found none. I then went to the Pro Desk Computer (they have at least 16 Pro computers there) and started checking prices on my list. A HD employee comes up and asks if I need any help.
I reply as I always do "no thanks, just checking a couple of prices."
She then asks - "why are you always looking for clearance items?". I reply " just looking for a deal on some things I need"
She then says she is going to call the manager. I just keep right on working while she calls the MOD. after she gets off the phone, she comes back to me and says that "according to corporate, you are only allowed to use the dot com site on the computer".
I politely let her know that the price check app is for customer use according to corporate. In the meantime, the price check app has a "server error" and quits working all together... hmmm..
She then tells me that "you and another guy are always in here looking for clearance items. I told him the same thing. You are always looking in the overhead. I have been to 10 stores and I have seen you in them as well. If you need to walk the overhead, then you should ask us to walk them with you." I guess In my area, I have been flagged as a persistent overhead "looker upper". I have never been on the ladder to get in the overhead, just always look up.
I just politely said OK and left. I have only found a few penny items and am not even as crazy as some of you on here. Maybe they are scared that I will sue if I hurt my neck from looking up so much... haha...
