I had a tug of war with a self checkout employee over a penny item (she won), then the head cashier came and refused the sale. I called HD corporate and they said that if the customer makes it to the register with the penny they must sell it to them at that price. She gave me her name and a phone number to call if they did not comply, she also called the store at my request. The next day they had a store meeting informing them of the rule.....they have to sell it to you no matter what!

I was just denied the other day by corporate, telling me they do NOT have to sell it for a penny. 4 moen faucets.

Seems like every other person in corporate has their own opinion. Same thing with every manager, every head cashier, etc. I'm beginning to think that there is NO policy whatsoever about penny items.

I even brought up the fact that last time corporate emailed the policy to a manager, to which she denied.

I don't normally look for penny items but seen a penny paslode without sleeve but someone put the sku number on it which is how i recognized it. It's literally closing time and only the self checkout is open. I walk up there and show the lady the sku and she types it in, rings up a penny and she gets a manager that was walking by. The manager says she has to go to the service desk to find the last clearance price.

The whole time my self checkout screen was showing it rung up as a penny. The manager comes back and says $100.03 and I asked about getting half off that because the handle was broke on the case. She immediately denied and said the recons sell for $229/$299. I said I'll take it and turn around and drop my dime in and it prints my receipt as they were trying to cancel the transaction to charge me $100. I act clueless grab my receipt and ****** the paslode from the center SCO counter, left the 9 cents change in the machine, and walk out. The manager follows me as I have to manually open the sliding doors, she said she's getting my license plate number to call the cops. I said that's fine and leave.

I haven't called the police department yet to see what she did.

Check the radiator fluid ??? :dunno:

These are oil-less right?

When it's filled, does it lose pressure at all? No leaks?

The only thing I see in troubleshooting is "an extension cord that is too thin or too long can cause the motor to overheat"

no extension cords, only tool on that outlet at the time. Fans spin fine . No leaks, held pressure over night fine when I first filled it yesterday. One coupler would not seat with the hose attach and would leak but sealed when you removed the hose, I'll fix that later, I switched to the other side and it sealed fine. Seems this one just didn't like cycling on and off for 2 hours and tripping the overload protection. The Gun I am using ( freeman 3 in one) needs 2.2cfm at 90 psi and min. of 70psi so I set the regulator to 80. Fired the staples fine. I bought more then one so I'll try one of the others out after lunch.

cops won't do anything because it's a civil issue, not criminal. found this out when I paid for some expensive penny stuff and got my receipt, then the manager came running over and took everything out of my cart and refused to give them back. too late for corporate so I called the cops on his *** (I wouldn't have but this guy was a total douche). they wouldn't do anything.

That is tempting! However, I would still be happy with the $100.03 price if that was the only thing offered.

Agree..

Stoutone, that story,no offense just screws everybody including yourself.Aside from the ethical side, now you have a store you may not be able to return to.I'll say it again, penny items are fun,BUT if denied just don't get the let's start world war 3..To each is own though.

Found the chainsaws at my store but they rang up at full price. Mark down price was $130ish. To get the cheaper deal do I have to type in the barcode/skew from the yellow tag?

Left with a Rubbermaid fastrak hose hanger for $2.83 (normally $10) and two disposable garden hoses that were dirt cheap. I'll leave these on my garden reel that sits outside all year. They go bad I'll toss 'em.

I could use a cheap hose! I need one to run from my dehumidifier into my sump pit and I'm too cheap to spend $7 on a 6 foot leader when i can try to find an old hose someone is tossing.

You are absolutely correct. Apparently I felt entitled to my find. Not my best moment.

No..you did the right thing and stand up to HD management BS games... I would have done the same,, except I would have left with the receipt only...get the names of Managers, pics of item... and call HD corp next day...99% sure its done deal in your favor....once you have receipt in hand...its a valid store transaction and your property By law..

I had same thing happen...got BBQ grill, paid and ready to leave...they said NO...they even void/cancel sale receipt transaction...and kept the BBQ grill..
They said they can sell only if I paid last clearance price...said NO..its penny.
went outside, called HD corp....10mins later,,, I had my BBQ grill...
next day...main store manager called me..saying and apologizing for his assistant managers actions...that he would have handled things differently....saying next time ask for him if problems...

Has anyone noticed a date code with a "R" to the side of it on a "New low price item? Say "R 4/26/2016"

Example: Ryobi just came out with a new 1/4" Impact (P237). The old version P236 was updated a few months back to a "new lower price" of $59. I just found a few of the P236's with a price tag that had the "R 4/26/2016" on it (Yes, 26 Apr 2016). Possibly start the "Clearance" sale on that date? Just wishful thinking?

No unethical is the store marking up the price from what it rang up as. Can't sell penny items? Get them off the shelves and out of the store. Easy.

He paid what the item rang up as. How is that unethical?

Meh it's unethical to try to charge me $100 on something that rings up one cent. Nothing I did was unethical in my opinion. As far as screwing anyone, I'm not the one calling corporate and starting wars. I simply walked out of the store. No big scene.

Wish this thread would stick to deals and less about stories. That's how it used to work back in the day.. I wonder way some of the key players don't post here anymore..

Prob because it isn't even about clearance deals anymore. Just who can find penny's and how to sell/ship them.

Still at full price in the price check app? What gives? $199.

Bought 2 today. Shelf reads $199 but scanned at $99. One for work and one for home. I've been looking for power washers for a while. They wanted $40 here to rent one. I guess if it works 3 days I'm ahead.

Once you use it the first time can you give us a review of the item? I've been looking for a pressure washer.

Thanks

$45 each. Got a price adjustment on the one I already bought. Love getting more money back than what I actually paid for the item :)

To me I see it as "remove" from shelf on said date, not positive though

No compressors found today, no homelite pressure washers either. I did find the homelite 14" gas chain saw but it was $109. Some of today's observations:

That only happens when you call the cops. If they call the cops, prepare to be fk'ed over.

Interesting. Could be. Now I feel like I need to grab one asap and wait.

Has anyone noticed items that leave the store with no attempt at being clearanced out first?

Had a store call the cops on me a few weeks ago over some penny dewalt compressors. Kinda the same situation where I rung them up and got my receipt after they told me not to. Told them I was leaving but stuck around once the cops were called. Once the cops showed up and talked to myself and the manager they said there really wasn't anything they could do and I walked out with my compressors.

Wow, that is calling their bluff. Were you in any danger of being arrested ? I imagine that if you were still in the store that could hardly be theft.

Cops will tell you that it is civil for no other reason than not wanting to fill out all the paperwork that goes with a case like these. Then they have to sometimes come in on their days off to relay the information to a detective so they can then investigate it. This would be a huge pain in the *** for all parties involved so unless a massive stink is put up they will just say whatever to get the situation over with.
