Do those USA made kobalt tools hold up pretty well? It should be easy to warranty them if they break right?

Craftman 42 pc. Ratchet [3/8] and Bit Set With Case $70.00 normally $100.00.

At its retail price it isnt much of a deal since the online exclusive 42 pc. bit set is always $80 [and inludes a couple more sizes in lieu of the ratchet, extension and adapter], but at $70 with a handy storage case its a nice little package for the weekend warrior.

No they arent snap-on torx or hex bits so they will bend and break with continuous automotive use [i find they survive quite well for small equipment/hobby stuff though] but keep in mind the entire craftsman set of everything also costs about 1/3 the price of a set of snap-on hex or torx.

Thanks for the heads up Skin. Local sears was having a 10% opening sale, so I got mine for 63$. Kinda suprised how handy the case is. Always wanted the SK Bit Set with the case, but this is a nice alternative. Now what to do with the ratchet???

Why don't you order online and pickup from the store?!
What I'm saying is, I don't think that's a 3/8" set, I think it's the 1/4" set.

Looking at my cell pics, the displays have part number 0266590 on them, and on the price tag.

I think we had this issue here before, where Lowes.com said a set was 3/8" bit in-store it turned out to be 1/4".

It's still a deal, but not what people won't be getting 3/8" sets as they're expecting.

they will be getting 3/8ths because i will print out the order page and I will have them give me the 3/8ths set or its false advertising...

Except... there is no 20-piece 3/8" set. I checked the part numbers carefully. The part and model numbers are for the 20-piece 1/4" set. I bought one anyway. :)

It is not false advertising, it is a mistake. tihs happens. :dunno:

BTW the $5 palm ratchet set is very nice. Thanks for the tip on that, guys.

I just got back from picking up my Kobalt set at Lowes. Everyone is correct on the set being 1/4 drive. They would have given me the 3/8 set if it had been 20 pc. They offered me a Task Force set but I declined and took the 1/4 drive set. It is nice, made in the USA by Danaher, 6pt, came in a nice case and has USA marked on every piece. Can't complain seems like a good deal to me.

The last time they did this exact same thing I ordered them online and Lowes gave me the 3/8" drive set anyway because that is what it said on the site. The lady even refunded me and then gave me an additional 10% off of that for my military discount. They didn't give me a single problem.

Picked up a 1/4" set today. Very disappointed by the quality. Way below craftsman in my opinion. Might be ok for a wrecking yard set but I want better for my road set. :(

If you order, you will be getting the product as described by the part number, so that's not false advertising.

Besides, false advertising is really reserved for when "bait and switch" tactics are used, or when there is an intention to deceive. This is clearly just an honest error.

I've been hearing that about the Kobalt wrenches as well.

They're made in the USA, but apparently that doesn't say much. I remember what I read about the wrenches and left the 1/4" set at the store.

If it's a mistake, they sure don't seem to worried about fixing the site. Me thinks sometimes they do this to get you in the store. How many of you buyers bought something else while you were there? :)

That's what I thought at one time as well, but there are so many stupid mistakes by so many retailers that it just has to be human error.

They gave me the 3/8 set tonight. Just thought I would share!!!

Sweet! How do you like the set?

I bought 3 of the Kobalt 3/8 set online and went to pick them up earlier this evening. As expected, the guy pulled out three 1/4 sets out of the cage. I told him those are not what I bought as it clearly stated on the print out that these were 3/8 sets. 10 minutes later after having the lead cashier double check the stock on the shelves, I walked out with three 3/8 sets. The 3/8 sets are 24 piece and they probably didn't want an angry customer so they just gave them to me. The one set I opened seemed to be of good quality. It is very similar to the current standard Craftsman items. These will be Christmas gifts so I think it was worth the time/effort.

the ratchets are actually better finished inside, at least they were when i opened one. Good deal, may take a shot at a set, too bad there are no deep sockets included.

O'reilly Auto has their ratcheting wrenches on sale for $30 for the set, normally $50. SAE or Metric. I think its an 8 pc kit, with GM Goodwrench for the brand.

I picked up a Kobalt 3/8 set for 10 dollars. They didn't hassle me. They are all 12 point both metric and fractional. One deep 5/8 spark plug socket. Nice case. The ratchet is not so great, but after I put some motorcraft grease inside it works pretty well. It was dry as a bone. All US made but a far cry to the Kobalt that Williams made back in the late 90's.

The sockets are not as nice as recent Craftsman I have purchased and like I said the ratchet would best be described as "rough." It is a 36 tooth ratchet so it likes the grease I put in. I would say that 36 dollars is a fair price for what it is, and 10 is very good. I would use this to keep in the car.

A big thanks to the Scoutguy.

edit: one weird thing about this Kobalt product is that you have to push the button on the ratchet to BOTH insert and release the socket. I have never seen that before and it was somewhat disconcerting.

Oh, 9-19 mm and the 19 was hairline cracked. It has to be exchanged.

I ended up getting two of the Kobalt sets, They gave me two sets of the 266600 24 pc 3/8 sets in place. I had bought 5 online but they only had 2 in stock. I won't be getting the other three. The sockets look the same as the other kobalt sets but the ratchets feel rougher than raised panel craftsman. The other sets (40pc) I caught on sale had really nice full polish ratchets. Oh well how can I complain for 10 bucks, lol
