LOL!

Rather that actually correct the error, they disable in-store pickup for the set. There's no question in my mind that this is what they've done since each store has several dozen sets on display in the holiday tool gift section.

Actually I think they made it unorderable online or otherwise. I can't say I blame them. They definitely lost their shirts on the ones sold already.

Wife just called, she got mine. They had the 1/4 waiting for whoever picked them up but I had already warned her. :)

I bought 3 sets last night and picked them up at lunch time. Nice little set for $10, but not worth the msrp of $35. Threw a little grease in the ratchet and feels much better.

Thanks for the heads up to whomever originally posted it.

how much do the sets cost in store? is it still the 9.98 price everyone is buying them online for?

The 1/4 set is still $9.98 in store, but everyone is ordering it online and picking it up in the store because Lowes accidently put "3/8" in the title.

When the set is picked up, a 1/4 set is waiting for you and not the 3/8. In this case, those who have tried more than likely got the 24 pc 3/8 set for the same price.

The 3/8s is $35 in store. Not great quality but for those able to grab them at $10 not bad. Mark the deal dead.

the ratchet in mine won't turn at all - I gotta go to lowes and pick up a few things for our bathroom remodel on the way home so I guess I'll swap it out for a new one

I just called my buddy who is the assistant manger at my local store and he said he has not heard anything about that.

Maybe it is regional or they haven't rolled it out to his state yet? Ask him about the new corporate printed coupon policy if you can.

Ordered my set online from Lowes. I have 4 stores I can get to easily. All showed at least 25 in stock. Being polite helps, when they pulled out the 1/4" set I showed them the printout and they went and got the 24 piece 3/8 set and adjusted the price. COO says made in the USA. Internal finish is a little rough and the ratchet is terrible although it has some heft to it. For the price I got it, it is a good glovebox set. Total cost with tax $10.58

I went with my father to lowes last night and we both picked up a 3/8" 24 piece set for the $9.98 price and I got one of those Kobalt palm ratchets for $5 as well. At first the girls and the counter did not want to give them to me as they really didn't know there was a difference in drive sizes but once the manager on duty came over he changed things around in the computer and gave me the 3/8" sets and my additional 10% off military discount. He said that he just got back from big corporate meeting that they told him that Lowes tools were going to be made by Stanley starting next year so you could probably expect allot of the current line like the ones I bought to be blown out after Christmas to make room for the new Stanley made tools. He said they even had some print outs that had displays saying "Kobalt by Stanley".

Stanley...so that means Kobalt Mechanics tools will not be made in the USA?

I had a confirmed order for the 3/8" ratchet set from Lowe's. Got to the store and of course they had the 1/4" set. I tell them, "nah, this says 3/8"". The guy manning the tool area comes over and long story short, talks to the manager and manager says they can't make the switch. I would have pressed the issue more but the tool area guy was nice/apologetic and honestly its not his fault or call (I blame the manager for not making the switch in order to keep the customer happy). I did send my opinion of the situation to Lowes.com. Will have to wait and see what they have to say in the morning. In my opinion, I am out my time and gas to go do the pickup but it all honesty I knew it was a typo so I'm not too tore up. I guess their response might have an effect the next time I'm choosing to go to HD or Lowes.

its really sad you'd have to do any arm twisting at all on something that they probably lose, literally, a few dollar bills over [guessing cost is around $15]. Its not like its some mom and pop outfit, its friggan lowes. The employees wandering around the aisles ducking customers lose them substantially more every hour than this.

I set up a new page for all the spillover deals that I can't place on ToolGuyd.

I have affiliate relationships with a few retailers (only those that I personally shop at, except for HF), and they're flooding my inbox with new banners, coupons, and random discount links every darn day. A lof of them aren't worth posting about as ToolGuyd "DealGuyd" deals, so I preapped DealGuyd.com for them.

http://dealguyd.com/

If this year is anything like last year, I'm going to be flooded with even more deal/coupon/promo emails over the next 6 weeks, and I don't have time to sort through them all.

So, if the deal seems good but not great enough for prime coverage, I'll add it to DealGuyd.

As mentioned, I do have affiliate relationships with many of these retailers, meaning if someone makes a purchase ToolGuyd get a small commission to help with overhead and giveaway funds, but I still encourage readers/shoppers to use their discretion and to shop for the best deal.

As you can tell, some retailers (most notable Sears) sends out advanced info way waaaay ahead of time. There *should* be a "secret sale" starting tomorrow, and I believe there will be another friends & family type discount event this next weekend.

I'll still post about the best deals via ToolGuyd's DealGuyd and here as much as I can, but DealGuyd.com will handle the overflow. Hope this helps.

If managers won't switch the products, threaten them with filing a false and deceptive advertising complaint to your state's Attorney General. Start scribbling the names of all the individuals that you've spoken with, and ask for the name of the General Manager. Be sure to get first and last names and confirm the spelling of each. If they still haven't given in, ask them to provide you with a written statement that they are declining to honor the price for the product.

If they still decline (which I would think the majority of them would give in at this point), file a complaint with Lowes corporate with all the info you obtained.

part number is right, product description isnt. Is that really worth getting in someones grill over a cheapy $10 socket set. If they wouldnt have honored it for me, I simply would have asked for a refund and walked out empty handed. Ive got bigger battles to fight

Isn't that going a bit too far? I mean, you KNOW that the description is wrong and that the 1/4" set is the one on sale.

Taking advantage of an error is one thing, making threats and making a scene to pressure store employees into giving in to your demands? Do you need the tools THAT MUCH?

I'll go through a few hoops to get my way when something rightfully on sale doesn't ring up correctly. I'll even go through a hoop or two to get a great discount even if everyone knows it's the result of an error.

But the darn model number doesn't match! Not even the photos or number of components match! Someone types in 3/8" instead of 1/4" in two places, and you're recommending people [incorrectly] claim it's false and deceptive advertising? Yikes.

Are these any good? They have them at my local store....cheap enough but are they worth even the $10?

I passed on them at my local store. Just looked like a very general assortment of bits, didn't seem special to me.

By the second person you talk to it should be clear how its going to go. I don't mind ruffling my karma a little on a deal, but I have to watch myself or I get too into it, and once I'm pissed I don't always act in my own best interest.

Precision Wiha driver @ Amazon, good for $25 free super shipping filler.

Wiha 27547 Hex Driver ESD 9/64 x 60mm $0.69

I'd thought about complaining about how this thread is so cluttered with that mediocre Lowes socket set with the incorrect description, but we need something to spread out the stuff you keep posting from Amazon. Does Amazon offer some kind of referral credit? That's the only thing I can think of to cause you to just post Amazon stuff that is less than "hot deals" as some people will jump on anything that gets posted.

Oh wait, and here an Amazon tool set to catch your attention...

Lowe's is at fault, as it's the 3rd or 4th day, they should have caught it, disable the online
item page, and send email to people who ordered to cancel the order. In which case, people
won't waste time/gas/money driving to Lowes, only to get rejected.
