. . . But then I spotted a Lincoln wire welder. It was the WeldPak 100 HD display unit, and it was marked $100. I asked her about it and she told me they didn't have the box or any of the accessories. I asked her if that was the final price, and she offered it to me for $75. So I snatched it up and brought it home. . .

Good price, but don't confuse it with a professional welding machine. Lincoln makes a couple of lines for home hobby people and are sold only at the big box stores. They aren't the same as you would buy in a pro weldor's store.

Just curious... my brother served in the service for over 7 years and still a reservist now. I wear his jacket because it's warm and cool looking. If anyone ever ask, I always say I'm not in the military, it's my bros. I don't wear it anymore as it got torn, but what do you Military guys feel about Civies wearing a military jacket? I'll never take a military discount though.

SoCal is full of bases, and bins and bins of old military issue clothing gets sold and worn by anybody and everybody. Most is in a condition that the wearer would never be mistaken for active duty.

San Diego is crazy full of active and retired military, and its not at all unusual for street people to say they are exmilitary and even tell long stories about serving. Guy at a swap meet told me quite a tale, and half a dozen spaces later a marine with steam coming out his ears told that ###hole never served as much as a hamburger. Its not worth going to jail over, and could be the first guy really thinks he served.

$75, from $400 is a good deal no matter what it is. Yeah, I'm fully aware of the hobby line.

I never wear a full uniform...except maybe Halloween which I have never done, but it's just a jacket...it does have rank on it. I was more curious if you Military guys and girls get offended...I think my jacket though is not made anymore...I love the style of it. If it wasn't a jacket...a baseball cap showing military insignia would be very similar. Besides... you all know that government issue clothing is pretty good quality when it comes to keeping you warm. But I never wear a shirt/pants and cap or jacket on any given normal day or telling stories how I was in WWII in trenches or anything like that. I was just more curious if there was offense taken.

Sorry for being off topic of hot deals...just that someone posted by military discounts and such and got me thinking about times I wear one of my favorite jackets.

I can really only think of two times I would be pissed about civilians wearing military uniforms as long as there is no rank on it. First would be some one trying to pass themselves off as military, for example to get a discount at Lowes. Second would be rappers/emo kids that think it is stylish. That really pisses me off.

Yes it's HF but....

Today while at HF when I went looking for a crimper (passed as it seemed weak) I noticed a lot of clearance in the sockets isle. I happen to walk through there looking for the pass through ratchet set, it was dropped from $29.99 to $14.97 and with a 20% on top of that I walked out with it for just under $12. All the 1/2" braker bars were included in that as well as almost all the impact sockets, etc etc. I asked one of the workers what was going on (mostly because what good is a lifetime warranty if they don't have it anymore). He didn't have a complete answer but he said they were replaceing everything with something different. He didn't know if it was just a packaging change or a completely different item. He thought the new version was going to be "better" and anything purchased before and brought in for warranty would be swapped for the new item.

I got the same pass-through set for $15. Very nicely made and finished. A helluva bargain for $15 or less! :)

I went there the other day and got a 3/8" and 1/2" breaker bar for $4.97 each. I also saw the pass through socket set for $12.

Hasnt HF's track record on things like this usually the opposite? They clear out decent stuff at ridiculous prices, just to replace it with inferior quality things, but charge the same price - Taiwan -> China/India

Kind of like sears i guess.............................:shocking:

Was at Lowes today and purchased the Jawhorse miter table for 39.98. Regular price 89.00. Was marked on the shelf at full price, but had one of the clerks check the price and it came back 39.98. I took one and the clerk took the other...LOL

I noticed alot of the same stuff you mentod at my local HF. I didn't post because i figured it was just a local store thing. But I took advantaged. I picked up both SAE and metric of the earthquake impact socket sets that get such great reviews for 15.00 each. I also picked up deepwell metric and SAE 3/8" 8 peice impact socket set for 4.95 each. don't know the how they'll hold up but for $10.00 its worth a shot.

If anyone needs a GREAT torque wrench, tooltopia has them on special today on the daily deal.

Precision Instruments 1/2" drive, split beam, flex head, 40 - 250 ft/lbs for $144.43

http://www.tooltopia.com/precision-instruments-c3fr250f.aspx

Thanks. Good deal, but took almost an hour over phone ordering the damn torque wrench. Now I've got the 1/4 and 3/8 clicker PI torque wrenches and this 1/2 PI split beam torque wrench. Probably be after Turkey day before I see it though.

Check your local Pep Boys. They have some deals on those portable jump starters / air compressors.
Only downside is you have to do the mail-in rebate thing.

Prices are after rebate:
300A without compressor $15
300A with compressor $22
450A with 260psi compressor, USB charging port, light $40

They all have 12V plugs

I think these prices are better than Harbor Freight

$23 on the booster compressor is pretty crazy low, wonder what the warranty is like and if an extended warranty is possible?

300A has a 8Ahr AGM battery, says it is not replaceable, warranty is 90 days requires receipt and shipping to IL.

Says to charge 8 to 12 hrs, but never longer than 24 hrs, which means you need some kind of timer I guess?

Do no crank for more than 6 sec, wait three minutes between starting attempts.

***** not the same battery, but I think same type for comparison
Specifications

* Volts: 12
* Amp Hours: 8
* Length (in): 5.94
* Width (in): 2.56
* Height (in): 3.94
* Weight (lb): 4.96

***********************************************

HF cheap one, Aaaack, looks much better, warranty 30 days, but likely cheap for extended.
# Automatic cutoff prevents overcharging
# Charge/battery level indicator
# 400 amp boost rate/900 amp peak
# Maintenance-free, 17 amp hour battery
# 12v power port for powering 12V accessories
# Easy-to-read charge/battery indicator
# Work light

**************************************************

I can't believe how I am flip flopping about wanting one of these.

I don't know if these are good quality or not but someone on ebay is selling 10 Utility knives which are labeled as "made in usa" for $9.99 plus about $7 shipping. This is pretty much the least expensive price I have seen for utility knives including those made in china. It might be worth giving it a try if you are in the market for some, and you like made in the usa stuff...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360229908248&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

If anyone buys some let me know what you think about the quality... thanks

HD discount on Ryobi (ugh) 4-tool combo (drill saw light vac) $69. Personally I wouldn't own any Ryobi, but this post isn't about me, it's about a very low price. Tools at almost disposable prices. Caveat Emptor.

http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hard...D=552179&SID=TOf-UwoBCjQAAHcQjNkAAAAb&cj=true

And while we're dumpster diving, I see that HarF has their multifunction "********" tool (the Fein MultiMaster knock-off) on sale for $30. Caveat... oh, I already said that.

Wright 3/8" ratchets. $25 shipped on ebay. I already have enough ratchets, so I can't justify buying one of these.
