Just got the stanley light. I found mine in the automotove electrical section, the section that has terminal ends, bulbs, ect. They had it one the shelf for $49.99(clearance) so I took it over to one of the bar code readers in the store and it showed up at $10.00 so I bought it. Not bad as they were $69.99.

At my local Lowes there was a table in front of the Commercial Sales Desk full of tools. It wasn't labeled but an employee told me at items on table were 50% off.

I snagged myself a 8-piece Gearwrench metric 15 degree offset wrench set. They also had lots of individual Gearwrench flex wrenches, individual Kobalt wrenches, Gearwrench socket sets, Dewalt/Bosch/B&D screwdriver bit and drill sets, and Surefire flashlights.

This seemed like some in-store house cleaning, so I don't know if other stores are doing the same. Can't beat 50% off though.

Found one at an out-of-town Wally's. Package had been previously opened and taped shut. Took a chance anyway. Doesn't work. :( Is it worth the hassle of taking it back for 10 bucks?
Is maybe the reason that they are on clearance that a lot of them don't work?
Anyone else have a similar experience?

I would take it back on principle.

Can you return it at your local store?

$10 isn't worth another out of town trip unless you're going there anyway.

I went to two local WalMarts looking for the spotlight. First didn't have any even though the Web page said they were in stock. Second had one in stock with a package that had been opened and then taped shut. I didn't take the chance and left it there.

Most likely the battery inside is dead. You can try to find matching SLA 3.0Ahrs battery somewhere on the internet or better see if you can use it as a handheld spotlight powered by included cigarette lighter cable to your car.

If it turns on, I can guarantee you that you will NOT return it. The amount of light coming out of this is absolutely insane. This is essentially a 35W HID car headlight and puts out almost 2-3 times the light of a typical halogen car headlight (55W).

What kind of question is that?

You have 90 days to return it to any Walmart, per the receipt. And, with a clearly defective item, I've never had any problem getting them to replace or refund, receipt or not, within a year of purchase.

So, throw it in your truck, and just do it the next time you're out by one.

It's a stretch, but they may even be willing to find one at another store and have it shipped to your store for you. It's worth a shot!

Ok, just got off the phone with the company. They can not send a replacement light, as they quit making them. They said it has been on the shelf for over a year and the battery is probably bad. Ugh! How much is a battery? Thanks

I have the baby brother to the Stanley flash light you are all talking about, it is very bright for about 3 minutes and then the battery starts to die, it has been like this since day 1 and stories like the one I am telling are all over the internet. I am not convinced that even if I saw one of these for $10 I would buy it based on my experiences with this one....

Add me to the list of dead spotlights. Mine will only work if it is plugged in a cigarette lighter. I had it on the charger overnight and it still wont power up. My Walmart had 2 of them and I bought them both. I'm not even going to open the second package. They are both getting returned. Oh well, it was worth a try.

Thanks all. You're right about returning it on principle and why give Walmart $10 for nothing. Then again $10 isn't much of an investment in the tool world so maybe I will try to replace the battery. I get some kind of odd pleasure from fixing things that many people would throw away.
Then again, when I went to auto mechanic school, we learned how to repair starters and alternators. Hard to even find parts for them now. Disposable society that we live in.

Be careful. Easy to burn your house down with Li Ion laptop batts. They have no regulation and can light things up if they are discharged too far or are overcharged by just a little.

Thanks. Yeah I agree with you. Always use a dedicated charger for those Li-ion batteries.

You might want to read up on unprotected Li Ion batts on candlepowerforums.com, because that's what you are talking about here.

Has nothing to do with the charger necessarily. There are many chargers, 99.9999% of them may burn your house down. I'm not kidding or exagerating here either.

If you already know all this, no problem. If you don't understand the difference between unprotected and protected Li cells, please do a ton of research first. Protected cells are a lot better, but still dangerous. I consider the Li cells in my house the most dangerrous things i own. But there really is no substitute for Li.

Fein Multimaster FMM 250Q Top for $269.99 down from $399.99 at CPO Fein

Ordered it on Monday at lunch, tracking says it's coming to my office on Thursday - can't wait.

Thanks for that link, it reminded me that I've always wanted one of those. Could have used one many times for various DIY adventures.

In searching for reviews, etc., I found it on Amazon for $249.99:

http://www.amazon.com/Fein-MultiMaster-FMM-250Q-Top/dp/B000U8S3QA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1304725337&sr=8-1

Seems like the same kit as on CPO Fein, I'll find out when I get it!
