I just ordered the Miller - Lady from my local Grainger called to let me know that it would be in on the 21st of this month.

Looks like the deal is legit.

I saw that link to Graingers and decided to sleep on it. It is too good to be true, so I'm sure it is a mistake. The cost of building it is much higher I'm sure.

Therefore, rather than getting my credit card messed up for a while I'm going to sit that one out.

And I just double checked the page by reloading it in my browser. The Grainger site has replaced the page now with "session expired."

Steve,

Did you see my post above?

A lady from my local Grainger called after I placed the order and said it would be available for pickup on the 21st. They have not billed my CC yet though. I will keep you posted.

I'm in on the welder. I think acce$$ories are going to kill me as it looks fairly stock, but its hard to argue with that price.

I did "Will Call" shipping to my local Graigner too - I will drive across town to save shipping most any day.

Do you think it's a reconditioned one? Looks like the price is too good for brand new. However I wish it's not.

I just bought the same welder a month ago at Cyberweld for around $849 without the running gear.

This Grainger deal is awesome.

I hope not, they say shipping from MFG and this unit # is listed in the Grainger catalog at a much higher price ($1,181.00). So I doubt that it is a referb, but you never know.

I'd beleive the Miller deal if they are the non auto sets being cleared out. I scored a Hobart 625 plasma for 425 to my door form Sears a year or two ago, 1800 normally. They were clearing them out for the new 7xx plasma from Hobart that replaced the 625....I guess the markup is HUGE.

steve, look a little closer.

the one on sale Miller 180 is a discontinued model, mfr's part# 951374. note it is withOUT "Autoset". it is no longer listed on Miller's website.

the current Miller model is "180 with Autoset", part# 907312,

http://www.millerwelds.com/products/mig/product.php?model=M00209

compare the pictures of these two on the side panels:
without Autoset:
MIG-Welder-1TKC5_AS01.JPG

with Autoset:
Millermatic_180_Auto-Set.png

Huh? This model IS with Autoset. Part number 951374 is not discontinued, it's just part 907312 with the addition of running gear and a tank cart.

I dont think it is. They would have to advertise it as such if they were selling a reconditioned one.

Yeah the welder shows full price on the mobile site. $1181. Do you need a business to order from granger or can regular homeowners order?

In for the miller welder. Nice thing about a business account is you don't pay tell you pick it up. So if it does not work out, no harm. Guy on the phone thought it should be no problem to get it.

Man that's an amazing deal on the 140 too! This can't be a mistake on both machines.

The only thing that worries me about the 180 is it doesn't say it comes with the MIG gun and ground clamp/cable.

from their web site:
Auto-Set™ feature allows for quick and easy set-up. Spatter-free start with tip saver and trigger reset. Include regulator, 10-ft. MIG gun, and hose cart.

What is the deal with Grainger? I bought something from one of the stores about a month ago. The guy ringing me up asked me for my company’s name. I didn't think much of it until he told me they are a business to business shop. Does this get back to my company somehow? Thinking I will jump on the Miller 180 deal if there is no real problem. I just don't want to get in hot water later on.

They just told me the same thing. You have to have some kind of account, even if it is personal account. They said they do sell to the public but they are mostly b2b.

BTW I just bought the Miller 140 from them for $332, they said it would take 5-8 business days to get delievered

It looks like the Miller 180 on sale does not have the "Running Gear/Cylinder Rack
" which is the $164 cart. It does have the Auto-Set. If you search the two model number on the Miller site (907312 for $1105 & 951374 for $395) you get the same page. Look under "models and pricing" and both are listed.

Did you call or do it over the web? Did you set up a personal account?

T100, thanks for the heads up on the Miller. I went ahead and pulled the trigger but am still skeptical that the pricing "mistake" might actually be on Miller's part not Graingers' part. The item ships from Miller.

So I will get mine in a week or so unless they decide there is a mistake in price. :)

Thanks again,
Steve

Thanks for the heads up! Just called and ordered the 180. No shipping charges either.

I'll report back if I get it or if it gets canceled.

Man, I've been wanting a mig welder for a while, for very very occassional use, although I'll probably find more uses once I get it. I could never justify the cost though. On the one hand this deal seems like it's the perfect chance to get one, on the other, even for $400 I just might not use it enough. Ahhh, decisions. Is this a very very rare deal, or do similar deals on good welders pop up from time to time?

I have never seen a deal on a welder like this.

If you're going to get one, I'd say now's the time. A quick Google shows this at at least $800 most anywhere online.

Well, you can start by making your own welding table, then a heavy duty welding cart, then a . . . . yada-yada.
