I wish that one guy had not closed his 6" wrench all the way. I was just about to my apartment one evening when I heard a clank, clank, clank on the rear fender of my motorcycle. I stopped and found that I had run over a wrench and the sharp part of the jaw had penetrated my brand new rear tire. That #$%^ wrench cost me a couple of hundred dollars and I don't even know where it is now.

This thread has it all! Insults, name calling, bad mouthing and a fair share of liars...Guys that are proud of their collections, others ashamed of owing "only one I never use". OCD freaks and down right slobs. So where do I fit in this diverse group, you may be asking....I have a drawer full of them, one hanging on the torch cart, one in the tractor box and others scattered around the funny farm, trust me "I could give a damn less how they were left as long as it wasn't out in the rain!"

I think you could also benefit from a wrench rack for those puppies!

Should I start a thread " how would you set your adjustable wrench in a wrench rack?, jaw down, jaw up, open, closed, all same direction, every other one opposite, by size ascending, descending, by vintage...........:lol_hitti:willy_nil

A rack is in the plans, got to make use of hose 4" drawers. Not long ago I had them layed out in nice order, until I kept coming across the $ 2.00 old iron ones.

But conversely, "Together red and green should never be seen".

Uh actually red and green are complimentary colours and go extremely well together. Furthermore, of all the complimentary colours, red and green are the only two which are of equal luminosity and so balance in equal amounts. 50% red and 50% green are a perfect balance. All other complimentary colours consist of one cold colour and one warm colour and balance at different ratios. For example, orange and blue complimentaries balance at a ratio of 20% orange and 80% blue so you could "leave an orange 4" crescent in your drawer next to a blue 16" crescent and achieve perfect colour harmony. Any 2 crescent wrenches of the same size should be one red next to one green for proper balance.

Those of you without coloured crescents needn't worry though, uncoloured wrenches form pretty much a neutral grey which while being quite mundane, won't create any conflict in the subconscious when opening the drawer.

Now that you have allowed in testimony about colors, I submit this:

I always leave mine how they were the last time I used them. I do not use a crescent wrench as often anymore since I bought the Knipex pliers wrench.

I'm surprised no one's said this yet.....

Q: How do you leave a crescent wrench?
A: I'm sorry crescent wrench, it's just not working out. It's not you.... it's me.

Q: How do you leave a crescent wrench?
A: I left mine a note: Dear Crescent, it's time we parted ways. We were never a good fit. I'm leaving you for an asian girl. A Harbor Freight Pittsburgh Pro, to be more exact. I know you'll miss me, but you'll learn to "adjust" without me.

If you leave your crescent wrench for a set of combo wrenches could you say you were searching for Ms.Wright???Wright Grip that is or Will Williams ,Mac or Sam Snappy?

I'm usually so mad after I use one it becomes a projectile across the garage floor. But I always go get it, and clean it up and put it back in the box. What is it about crescent wrenches, that I always buy them at garage sales. I must have over 50 of em and I Cuss most of the time I use one.

we try:beer:

just to put another wrinkle in the *****...
I believe I saw(maybe at HD) a while back.
an adjustable wrench that was batt operated. and when you hit the button it would tighten to the proper nut or bolt size. and when you were done w/ it you could hit the button and it would close.

please tell me I didn't dream this guys

I've seen it. I also have (in the carry box for SWMBO) one that adjusts with a slide on the handle and runs a spiral cut shaft that works the jaw. any grit an its going to jam, hence into an indoor box...

After you are done with an adjustable wrench, where do you leave the jaws?

I always put the jaws to where the rack is flush with the edge of the wrench. Roughly 3/4" on a 12 inch wrench. My boss closes the jaw all the way. Drives me crazy, I am guaranteed to have to open it up most of the way next time.

I always like this kind of human nature stuff.

Don't sweat the small stuff dude.

To answer your question...closed all the way, takes up less space for storage (or some other reason...started doing it never stopped). Though I don't really use them that much...they're a wrench of last resort.

Normally I just look it straight in the eye and say..."it's not you....it's me" and I walk out the door.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who thinks about this stuff. So I ask my fellow OCD'ers: Does this also affect/contradict how you put away pipe wrenches and channel lock pliers?

I carefully adjust it to each possible setting, and as each setting is reached, I wipe it down with a microfiber towel, dipped in a special cleaning solution. I try to reach each nook and cranny.

After cleaning, I repeat the process with a preservative. Then I buff it to a high luster.

Setting it to the midpoint of it's range, I check the setting with a micrometer, making adjustments as required.

Handling it carefully, wearing a new pair of white cotton inspection gloves, I insert it into it's custom kid glove leather storage pouch. This is then placed with care, on the velvet dais, where it is displayed under a hermetically sealed glass dome.

Before leaving, I carefully adjust the lighting to show it off to it's best advantage and bid it a good night.

^ This is my favorite OCD reply in this thread. Thanks bczygan :D

I never have and dont think I ever will own a "crescent" wrench or pipe wrench. Clumsy, loose, inaccurate and heavy. Just feel like a 300lb ****** to me, or at least what I imagine one would be like.

FWIW though I do set all of my Pliers Wrench's and Cobras to what would be "0" before putting them away.

I Use a 0.5000" +/- 0.0001" gauge block to precisely set the jaws to 1/2", then I lock them in my safe.

Or, I store them in a drawer in my rollaway with the jaws in whatever position that they want to be.

This entire thread is screaming OCD.

I worked with a guy who lined up all of his pencils in the drawer of his desk at the end of his workday. Erasers against the front of the drawer, points (all freshly sharpened) pointing away from him, labels all facing up.

Unless that guy had 10 pencils and labeled each pencil for use on one day a week only on a bi-weekly basis, and sharpened all his pencils to the same length each night too, he's just a light weight!
