A bit of a mess in the pic as I was in the middle of painting the walls and doing the Floor epoxy, but you get the basic idea for a quick-grab station:

Here's another approach to hide some of the clutter from the chargers and wires. I am bringing one of these cabinets in from Facom to see how it looks wall mounted instead of hung on the side of one of their tool boxes. Available in red or black with built in power. Plugs need to be updated to NEMA.

Scrap of wood and some storage brackets. The brackets are sold under names like Performax, Fastrack and Storage Trends. Just bend the hooks a little to fit your tool. Modified a large loop hook to hold the saw. Ain't pretty, but it works.

I don't have that many, but I make sure I get a plastic case with each one. I despise those "handy contractor's bag" Milwaukee now provides. They are useful for "plumbing stuff" and "electrical stuff" but they are pure evil for storing tools I don't want all scuffed up. GRRRRRRRRRRRR

Ebay has been great for finding the correct plastic case.

My Milwaukee M12 stuff is in a drawer of my toolbox since it never leaves the garage / house. Bosch equivalents are in an L-Boxx since I take them to work or relatives' houses from time to time.

My Makita 18V LXT stuff is in the soft sided rolling bag that they came in and it drives me nuts. As big as it is, the bag is still a little too small for the number of tools I own. The tool I need or the charger and batteries inevitably find their way to the bottom no matter how recently I used them. The bag just takes up too much damn space on the shelf below my workbench. I've looked at other options but haven't found anything I like so I just make do with what I have.

mine are very rarely taken out of my house.. my "work area" is in the basement since this friggin house doesnt have a garage, and i keep all my m12 stuff laid out in the top of my HF 44" chest.. the small stuff gets me though most of little jobs, so i was kinda looking for a way to store the bigger m18 tools since they dont see tons of action here. if i use them, its likely an outdoor project, so thats why i had the ridgid box in mind. this way i can just keep most of them together and move em around as a set. im not a huge fan of the contractor bags, but im not exactly sure how much i can fit in the ridgid box either..

just looking for ideas - and maybe give some people a chance to show off what they've come up with.. im not married to the idea of portable storage. in fact - adding another side locker to my HF tool chest is seeming like a good option too.

I have the Ridgid boxes and love them. I use them to keep all my tools organzied in my truck. I have most of my cordless tools in the smaller of the three boxes, a m12 impact, m12 drill, m12 right angle drill, and a m18 drill with lots of spare room for batteries, chargers, and cases of bits if needed. Look at the customer reviews at Home depot there are several pictures posted in the reviews, its amazing what you can do with these things.

I really like this idea to store cordless tools like drills and drivers. It looks nice, works well and is easy to make.

I kinda like this too. Could hold air tools as well. I'm just not much of a wood worker. Have plans for it somewhere?

I use the Bosch L-Boxx system for my 12 volt Bosch stuff. Recently bought the 18v so not sure what I am going to do with it. Most of the in the house projects only need the 12 volt stuff (drill impact vac and radio) so I can just grab the stack and go into the area I am working.

I have normally just kept them in a seperate tool box, but I am changing from Makita to Festool and will keep them in the systainer boxes. Have treated myself for Christmas so am expecting a big delivery of Festool product :thumb:

Don't do that. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I bought a load of Festool, Metabo and BTI T-Loc boxes this year. Can buy the boxes on their own and I junked the original missmatched odd shaped Hitachi/Makita/De-Walt boxes as they were too much like hard work to carry about from the van to the jobsite.
As they are all made by Tanos they stack neatly together and luckily they fit into my van toolsafe perfectly.

I also have a Festool TS55 plungesaw with guiderail system and a Metabo jigsaw but thats the only times I've got the boxes with the tools, the rest I bought as and when I had a bit of spare cash.
They also fit onto a little trolley thing (not as posh as the one you have there) for the odd time I'm working in a large building where there's a decent flat surface to push the stacked heap around on.

I have them in several small tool bags. Each bag has colored tape bands on the handles to identify which is which. Each type of tool & its blades or bits ride together in the bag. So on a jobsite or at home I have everything together for a particular task. Plus a separate bag with all the batteries & chargers.

Great ideas, thanks for the photos. The PVC pipe holders look real slick for grab and go.

I guess I'm the only one that loves original tool cases. I don't have a pic but I just shove all the cases in a tall cabinet.

I try to organize my tools as much as I can using magnets. Everything else I use hooks.

Like an elf, mine sit on a shelf. Corded tools (drills, grinders, sanders) are unceremoniously dropped into the bottom drawer of my toolbox (which is deep enough for such storage).

I have everything in either the original case or some larger DeWalt Tough Cases that hold a few tools each. This fills one of my Strong Hold cabinets. I hate it and am actively thinking of buying another tool box so I can lay the tools in drawers. I'm tired of having to unlock a cabinet then find the right case or having multiple cases open and sprawled around the garage when I'm working on something. I need them open in one location.

The majority of mine are in a deep bottom drawer in my box for now

I don't throw any away, but it is just extra work to open the cabinet, locate the box (potentially move others), open the box, pull tool out rather than just having it handy.

It sounds silly but if it takes you an extra 30 seconds or minute every time you need a tool, multiplied over the number of times you do it in a day, by the number of days you work...

I much prefer the bags in the Milwaukee kits vs blow mold cases. Much easier and quicker.

I keep all my ratchets, impacts and drills in one drawer, I have a couple chargers mounted above my work bench and I keep all the saws in a separate bigger bag. All blades and bits are in another bag.

I agree access has to be quick and easy.

It's an old thread but I'll show mine too.

I cut some patterns in some 1/8 steel and screwed them to the rafters so can hang them by the battery end just above my head.

I also salvaged some slotted pieces from some old equipment racks which I mount around the shop. They work the same and fit great.

In my living room currently. It would bring a tear to my eye for them to have to be out in the cold garage.

There's part of my storage, several tools missing. Hackzall, oscillating tool, search light, and another drill and impact are in the Packout right now. Circular saw is on my woodworking bench. Impact wrench and inflator are in the roadside box in the car. Several tools in the house as well.

Since it's been a few years and the thread resurfaced I thought this was worth updating as my collection has grown and I needed a better way to store everything.

I built a small stand for the drills/impacts/anything else that could fit in the slots. All of the batteries fit nicely on top. The saws hang on kind of a crude french cleat system. All of the misc. stuff fits in a drawer underneath the workbench.

For tools like the Dremel that have a lot of accessories I like the box to keep everything together. I also repurposed an old tool box for my soldering iron and extra tips/solder/flux/etc. In general, the boxes take up too much space. Pulling them out usually involves removing the 2 or 3 cases stacked on top of the tool I need too. Pain in the ****.

Most of mine are in my jobsite trailer in divided shelving I built from scrap plywood.

Keep a drill, impact, and light on my truck. Handing from the box dividers by their belt clips.

Shop tools are either sitting on shelves or hanging from flat bar stock by their belt clips.

I built this one at work. I didnt have access to pvc pipe to make the hangers so I used some heavy metal strapping with heat shrink tubing over the top. I has spots for screws, a magnetic bit holding bar and a set of drill bits at hand. It keeps things neat and cost next to nothing. The caution tape was just for style.
