Some where north of 50, waaaaaaaaay more than I need.
Just to be clear, are you talking about your ratchets or your bra size :lol_hitti

Either way, I'd say your assessment is spot on .

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

I'd say I'm around 30, with my go-to's being either my Tekton Composite for general purpose or my Dual-80 for white knuckle work.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

I'm not sure if this should be on this thread but what do you guys think about keeping you 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 sockets and ratchets in the same drawer... In the past I have done it but now with my bigger box they each get their own drawers and the thought of them having to share the same drawer again would bug me... I also have seen where others have ratchets in one drawer and sockets and extensions in another... I'm the kind of person that likes everything(some things) "just so"...

(Is this to stupid to post? LOL...)

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

I have collected what's in this drawer, plus a pair of 3/4 drive SK in another drawer. Oh yeah - another half dozen in various car and house kits. Somewhere around 25-ish total.

The only thing I wish I had at this point, ratchet-wise, is a long (15-18") 3/8 drive without flex head... looking at a Snap On FLL80 to fill this gap next paycheck. Oh yeah... sometime in the distant future I'd also like a set of Armstrong locking flex heads in 1/4 and 3/8 drive, the only locking head I currently have is an old Husky telescoping handle. It just never ends!

As you can see, I like roto-head ratchets. Represented here are a pair of Carlyle (Long), Husky (Medium), and Pittsburgh Pro (Stubby) in 1/4 and 3/8 sizes. I use them all, but mostly the Carlyle 100 toothed rotos.

My "go-to" in 3/8 (my most-used drive size) alternates between 2 snap-ons, an F80 and the green handled FHLF80. It originally had a comfort grip handle, hated it so I replaced it with a green hard handle from a Snap On flat blade screw driver.

In 1/4 drive, I really like my Kobalt 72 tooth (plain and ergo handles), and the snappy TLL80 long handle. The Carlyle roto-heads get a LOT of use, in both drive sizes.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

Holy cow! I looked at my drawer to see what I was going to buy on SK day and counted four 1/4 ratchets, six 3/8 and two 1/2. I thought I didn't need another, but I am clearly way behind!

31 if we are counting air ratchets and electric ratchets. 20 if we don't count air/electric.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

I think there are a couple of HF ratchets not pictured. I need to pick up a couple more 1/2" rats, particularly with new ball joints on the horizon...

I don't know why people need a bunch in each size.

And I don't know why people need 1/4" ratchets.

I have 7

1/2 craftsman slim
3/8 standard Matco 88t, snap-on dual 80 locking flex (my newest and current fav), silver eagle standard length, Stanley for home use.
1\4 Matco 88t and silver eagle

Pretty happy with what I have but would like a nice long snap-on 1/2

And I don't know why people need 1/4" ratchets.

1/4 drive is awesome for car interiors, instrument panels and dashes, and anywhere there is limited space to work in. Also, 1/4 drive is nice for smaller bolts, keeps you from stripping or breaking them as easy.

As to the multiple ratchets question, there are many reasons. Keeping sockets on them during a big job so you aren't swapping sockets all the time. Different types of ratchets (flex head, locking, bent, etc.) for different tasks and space limitations or blockages. Long handled for higher torque, or to reach difficult spots where length is needed. Roto-head ratchets to loosen, then quickly spin out bolts.

The right tool for the job means having a variety of different tools to work with.

3/8" - 1 garage, 1 barn, 1 truck, 1 salvage yard kit, 1 spark plug kit, 1 that stays in my trailer box.

You can't have too many 3/8" ratchets

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

Ive been building my son a small, starter set of tools.....so Ive moved my cheapy stuff into his toolbox.

Ive got 7 ratchets.

1/4" - 1
3/8" - 5
1/2" - 1

My most used is my SnapOn dual 80 flex head 3/8........followed by my Armstrong 88 3/8.

Those Armstrong ratchets are really under rated - super ratchets.

I also have a some of the BAHCO dual 80 clones......they are damn fine ratchets for the money as well.

Keep coming back to GJ, and set a reminder to read this thread in a year.

You might have found a reason to get another ratchet.:)

He's been here 7 years, and has 27 posts... :spit:

If he doesn't understand now, he probably never will... (Hmmm might be my brother posting, but I don't think he would ever join...)

Ive thinned the herd. About 10 now. They dont do me any good collecting dust so ive sold a bunch of triples ive had. 1 is none and 2 is one. Anything more than that is taking up space.

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

found a 5 gal bucket full of them and extensions that's been hiding since 97, i have over one hundred or more, include a 1/4 snap on from long time ago. sell it ? yeah.

I have 8 new craftsman that were warrantied, the only broken ratchets out of a hundred or more, but in all fairness they came out of police auction cars, and probably had been abused just like the car i bought.

50 vice grips, 50 crescent wrenches.

Yeah I haven't actually used it yet. :p It's the newer 8816-1, 72-tooth...feels great in my hands. I'm really into the comfort grips nowadays. Go get yourself one!

Re: How many ratchets do you own ?

I lost count around 30 or so. I have some in my home tool sets, some in vehicle tool boxes/bags, a bunch at work in the shop tool chests, and a few here and there because I'm a packrat and it's incurable. Hey, some guys collect girlfriends, I collect tools.

Trust me, after years and years of marriage, I can only tolerate the one I have.

And on that note, I'll plan on sleeping on the couch tonight. :)

What is the difference between polygamy and monogamy?
Polygamy is having too many wives...
Monogamy is the same.

Gray T8532 3/8
Gray T83 flex head 3/8
Kobalt QR 3/8
