If you need cheap sockets, you won't find them cheaper. But many of us have lots of sockets so it's helpful to know the details. One reviewer said he had to buy 2 sets just to get 1 usable set of them. This information is even more important to people like me who would need to order via the mail. For me having 200 loose sockets with illegible markings and needing to warranty replace a lot of them isn't worth the hassle. For those with a local store and small budget it's a good deal and I've previously suggested this set to folks looking for cheapos. These really aren't $200 sockets on sale for $60. The sockets are on par with the price.

Well it’s not entirely true that you can’t get cheaper sockets. I spent years playing the SYW system at Sears to do precisely that.

I don’t think these are that bad to the point of 2 sets to make one. They’re what I’d deem OK residing somewhere just above a Durabuilt or Hyper Tough.

I had a few badly plated, 2 bad enough they exhibited some rust and they’ll be warranted when I get around to it. One had the size stamping upside down but the socket was formed correctly. Some of the size stamping were light and hard to read. The smaller sizes seem better made. Half the stuff seems worse than typical Husky. I got a promotional Kobalt set like that in a plastic carrier, it was cheap but the finish just seemed way worse than other Kobalt stuff.

My guess is this stuff is cheaper, it is worse, they know it, most people aren’t going to warranty enough of it that they’ll still come out ahead.

You missed the part "If the store wasn't so far away". Good to know in store warranty works but the round trip would cost me 1 1/2 hours and a tank of gas. I would need to order via mail.

"Please don’t bother those that do." Works both ways. ;)

What is the cost of 200 Snapon sockets? If you are hypersensitive to real or imaginary defects like wean stamping, maybe it would serve you best to just have the Snapon guy stop by and hand him your credit card.

I opened my box, and, yes, a couple of sockets have lighter ice stamping than others, but i’m Not going to throw a hissy fit or warranty them over that.

They cost $.33/ socket, seem to be entirely functional, and, if I get old enough that I can’t read the stamping, i’ll Just use my Snapon, or whatever else I have in the box.

I just got back from Home Depot. Picked up a set of these sockets while there. I must have lucked out since after a basic through the bag inspection I saw No rust, No faulty plating, No glaring defects. I didn't check to see if they were all drilled out correctly. I didn't check to see if all the sets are complete with no missing or duplicate sizes. My only complaint would be the sizes aren't stamped very deep so the sizes don't jump out at you but as far as I can see they're still readable but not as readable as some other brands. This could be due more to the design of the font. They look better than the sockets I saw at Walmart just a few minutes before I went to HD. After reading some of the posts in this thread I expected to find an unacceptable amount of defects but I didn't find any.

The sockets have 170 reviews, 4.4 stars and an 86% customer recommend ratio so it looks like I wasn't the only one to get a "Good" set.

Give me a break. I'm glad you are happy with the cheap set of sockets that I've recommended several times to people on this forum who were looking for cheap sockets. But I'm sorry that you get triggered by my quote of a critical customer review that someone else posted on the Home Depot website.

If you're looking for one of that type of set, Cripe has a 76 pc. set of Gearwrench for about seventy five bucks delivered. Not my cup of tea but it sounds like a pretty good bargain if it's your cup of tea.

I bought this set before Thanksgiving for $99.98, it was in-stock (3030 SW 'Calle Ocho' Miami FL).

When I saw the price is now $79, I went to the store with my original receipt and they refunded me the difference, including sales tax. They still have a pallet of them.

Read my posts, above. Since they just dropped the price again ($59), I took-back my unopened set, and exchanged them for another box, and I saved another double-sawbuck!

I can do this all-year... .

Opened my box last night. The sockets look sufficient. They aren't made to the same standards as my older US Cman sockets but appear equivalent to some of my China Cman sockets. The difference I've seen so far are cosmetic. I have no evidence that either will be better or worse when dealing with difficult fasteners. I did notice that the deep sockets are only broached a short way. My previous Cman (US and China) are full broached.

Anyway, it would make for a great starter set even if it's missing a 23mm socket.

If you read my earlier post on this page, you know I've returned twice to HD to be refunded $20+ each time, as the price on this set dropped.

Here's what I bought off craigslist in my city, a N.I.B. Craftsman 3/8" socket set of torx, phillips, hex key and slot tip devices, with a ratchet and extension. I'd bought one of these for one shop and I found it useful, this is for the other shop, I am sure I'll find it to be as-useful. A double-sawbuck, cheap!

A good purchase with some of the savings from returning to Home Depot for a 200 pc. socket set price adjustment.

Got my second set and no missing sockets no duplicates and no stamp error.
Just two sockets with defects but usable.

The second one looks like they saved money by not cleaning up the broach work. Not sure it has any impact on the strength of the socket.

Someone made out, considering they were offered for $15 at Sears.

I paid $100 for mine off of CraigsList. Couldn't find it that cheap at HD.

No defects that I can see, aside from some being stamped lighter than others.

Two or three sockets have a smaller hole than normal, and so do not fit on my HF post-style socket organizer without sanding down the post a little.

Whatshername has that Crafty bit socket set. Nice to have but the box takes up too much room.

Wow, that's a great value on that 200-piece socket set. I've got a few Husky tools and they work well.

I may need need a 1/2" drive shallow, but a basic shallow SAE set is $30, then there's the 6 pt vs 12 pt choice. This set seems to have all the basics covered. I'll just have extra sockets for 3/8 and 1/4 drive.

I bought one at Sears in 2019, $25 with $5 freecash off. I watched for awhile before buying it and never saw it in south Florida for $15. The current price at my local Sears is $30, and they were out of them. I tried twice at the store before buying this one on craigslist cheaper than the store price.

If you have a Menards in your area, Home Depot will accept the 15% off bag promotion that's running now. Have to take the Menard's bag with you and they keep it after the sale.

Bought a set this morning. Final price was $50.15 after the 15% discount (before taxes).

I might have to grab one of these. There doesn't seem to be any shortage of them around here, but I'm sure they will be gone soon. I was going to pass on them but I think a decent beater set with a lifetime warranty might be useful. Also my 1/4 selection is pretty small.

The 1/4 stuff is the best finished in the set too, unlike the rest it looks like their more typical offerings as opposed to factory seconds.

Well, I picked mine up and went through them all. I am not missing any and only a few are hard to read but I can live with them. I thought they looked ok overall, nothing special but then again no complaints.

I bought the 3 piece Husky 72 tooth ratchet set on ebay for about $34, so ~ $100 for everything.

I bought this set for $54, thinking of buying Nother. A really good price, the sockets are bottom of the barrel finish wise, but theyve fit and worked well on every bolt ive tried. The only "spec" issue ive had is one sat pretty loosely on my cheap metal socket rail, indicating the square hole is a bit larger than normal. Again, that one fit and worked as intended on a qr and non qr ratchet. For what they cost, these are a fantastic deal. Now to find a good budget set of 6 point 1/2 sockets.

I was looking at $79 but couldn't pull the trigger but at $59 I went ahead and bought three. Gave one to my son, one to the son in law and kept one for me to use as a traveling set.
