If you need cheap sockets, you won't find them cheaper. But many of us have lots of sockets so it's helpful to know the details. One reviewer said he had to buy 2 sets just to get 1 usable set of them. This information is even more important to people like me who would need to order via the mail. For me having 200 loose sockets with illegible markings and needing to warranty replace a lot of them isn't worth the hassle. For those with a local store and small budget it's a good deal and I've previously suggested this set to folks looking for cheapos. These really aren't $200 sockets on sale for $60. The sockets are on par with the price.
Well it’s not entirely true that you can’t get cheaper sockets. I spent years playing the SYW system at Sears to do precisely that.
I don’t think these are that bad to the point of 2 sets to make one. They’re what I’d deem OK residing somewhere just above a Durabuilt or Hyper Tough.
I had a few badly plated, 2 bad enough they exhibited some rust and they’ll be warranted when I get around to it. One had the size stamping upside down but the socket was formed correctly. Some of the size stamping were light and hard to read. The smaller sizes seem better made. Half the stuff seems worse than typical Husky. I got a promotional Kobalt set like that in a plastic carrier, it was cheap but the finish just seemed way worse than other Kobalt stuff.
My guess is this stuff is cheaper, it is worse, they know it, most people aren’t going to warranty enough of it that they’ll still come out ahead.
