One with the skills to build it should be able to make a concise enough drawing to satisfy the permit issuer.

I have to agree with most it is a very simple garage, should be easy to draw plans and build.

If the siding is part of the draw, Red Wood (mabe cedar) is going to cost you (I used cedar on my house and old shop).

I would go out to a site like I linked to get ideas and draw my own.

You might want to make sure you are allowed to do your own plans. Locally we are allowed to do it all as home owners ( must meet code), but I know some areas don't allow the home owner to do plans without a stamp.

My thoughts exactly. The guy needs plans to show the city or county for the permit. Right out of the gate, he got his balls busted. He may very well be able to build it but not draw it.

There is a couple of members on here that have built one very similar to that. If I can remember their names here in a little bit, I'll let you know. You might want to look in the Gallery for the thread titled "Show me your one car garages" or something like that. The thread shouldn't be buried down too many pages.

Let's see...What happens when you get a red tag from the city?
Good luck getting some engineered plans after your winging it garage build.
Your going to need to tear it down and bring us some plans before we will issue a permit.
An illegal structure can come back and bite you many years down the road..

I built a dormer going out on the back of my roof, for a master bathroom, in a converted attic space. I just got on line and looked up dormer drawings, til I came across one that looked close to what I needed. I took that, edited it to my liking and submitted it with my plans to the city. They kicked it back I think only twice, and it was for other things, like smoke detectors and such.. they never even picked the structural drawing apart, like I thought they would. Just told me to make sure it had at least a 7' ceiling. I was amazed at how easy they went on me.

I did the same, when I built my 1 car garage. The hardest part, was passing the Historical district part (just my case). They wanted a 4 side drawing of how my garage would fit into the historic neighborhood. I spent like a week sitting in each of my neighbor's front yards, making drawings of my house, and my new imaginary garage.

Have you checked to see what you are allowed to do as a home owner and what is needed. I have found that getting the codes people involver early and not being confrontational makes the whole process a lot easier. As I said in my post we are allowed to do it all locally, but in my place in the mountains, all structures need to be stamped (something about 20 to 30 feet of snow likely the cause).

If you can, go to some of the sites linked and get your floor plans. If you don't have any building experience and want to do it yourself the USDA has a lot of good books on home construction(a net search will likely produce even more). I built my first shop (including the required drawings)with a couple books from the US gov. bookstore. No previous experience, it turned out ok and the codes people were more than willing to help me keep legal.

when I started my project, I asked a freind who had just built a garage nearby to give me a copy of his plans. The plans will show whats needed, not necissarily the building you want. I knew from his drawings what views and information were needed to submit the plans. With that you can draw yours up, and as someone here said, just submit them. The building department will tell you what you need to change or add, thats what they are there for, they may be harsh with professional builders for submitting bad or incomplete plans, but they treat DIYers pretty good and are very helpful. I ended up going to an architect and PE for mine, but it ended up a more complicated building then you are looking at.

ha, this thread is hilarious. I think those garages look killer. I'm building a hip (cottage) style roof on my garage in order to match the house, but would've preferred to do a single slop roof like in your picture.

You might want to contact www.studio-shed.com, they do garage packages in that style and may be able to help you out. One thing to consider is the roof truss design and how far the 2x10's or 2x12's can span from wall to wall without sagging over time. I notice the widest garage studio-shed builds is only 16'.

Check this thread out too, the guy built what looks alot like a www.studio-shed.com garage.
