A couple buddies and I got most of the Sheetrock up over the weekend.

Today, first real snow. Outside is wrapped up, working on finishing up Sheetrock, and painting.

The shop looks great and the exposed timber (timber frame appearance) sets it off just right.
We got approx 6-8 inch in the valley this weekend and I feel this winter is going to have some surprises due to the late winter.

Thanks guys, and yeah I agree about the winter. It's been a nice fall here. I'm sure we will pay for it somehow. Bring it on though, the shop is closed in and warm and I can work inside.

That is an awful lot of 'rock to hang !

Are those braces actually structural or just decorative ?

Yeah it is alot of rock, but a relatively easy job of it and not much waste with 12 ft sheets. Electric will be external thru conduit so there was no cutting out for all that. The painting will take awhile.
The braces are considered structural but if they were removed I don't think the building would fall over.

They would help during any seismic "event" !

SockeyeSummer has regular seismic "events" (I also have lived in the area).
A "big one" won't spare much, but I'd guess his building would likely make it.

Just a note in Alaska:
The name for "superstorms" (aka sandy) is called spring.
It's not an eathquake until it's 5+ (a 4.x is a shaker, and 3.x is a "felt what?").
When the volcanos blow, you drive to the inlet to watch.

P.S.
In '64 my uncle and grandmother were in a bar and crawled to the parking lot. Uncle was late to get his girlfriend who waited inside penneys while the walls litterally fell down.

What's your budget for heating it this winter?

Winter lasts till about mid June, right?

Ha ha, yep siesmic events here not uncommon at all. No real big ones since '64 though. And yes big winds not all that uncommon, 100 mph plus once in awhile, but luckily not as destructive as tornados and the full blown hurricanes. We just deal with what we get and watch the rest of the world make the headlines.
I have alot of older friends who lived through the quake and tsunami in 64, some crazy stories.

It won't cost too much to heat it, I'll mainly keep it around 50* unless I'm working out there. The toyo is pretty efficient and its tight and well insulated. Don't really have a set budget yet. May use 150-200 gallons for the year at most I'm guessing.

Handsome building. What did you finally decide on for lighting? I'm thinking LED technology in old fashioned porcelain hanging fixtures. One better would be able to raise and lower them.

that is a beautiful pic, great build, love the timbers exposed with the sheetrock around them. Got me thinking about mine now.

Yeah I'm definitely going to put in a couple ceiling fans. Electrical will have to wait a little bit, I need to plan it out, decide on lights, and I've got alot of other stuff stealing my time. Right now I've got the temp lights and a couple outlets installed so at least I can do stuff in there.
Point bock, your right about the heater, it's been like spring here.
