Been using ESCO for 20 years. Great stands.
Amazing that we got to the second page and no one mentioned US Jack.

Weight rating is specified on the stand, required by OSHA and if used in a OSHA environment the rating decal/sticker/stamping has to be maintained.
A few months ago, there was a recall on Harbor freight 3 ton jack stands, turns out the ratchet lock sometimes would not lock and drop.
Napa has a decent pair of 6 ton stands for $50 and 3 ton for $30
Probably because the OP said they wanted to spend $60/pair and USJack are over $150. With shipping its close to 3x their stated budget.
Nice, but $400 a pair with a few adaptersTake a look at Jack point Jack stands American made , sturdy and unique design makes them perfect for modern vehicles with limited jacking points
I have a couple sets of the Torin 6ton double locks and they have been awesome. Great height to them and with the double lock, I don't worry about them somehow dropping the car on me.
I agree on the 3 ton being to too small height wise, I have a pair of 2 ton and 3 ton that I keep around for supporting the axle when I'm working on suspension stuff.

Wow, thanks to Los and Bacon.....great info. Definitely will go with 6 ton, realizing I may need to invest in smaller ones for our smaller vehicles.
Can anyone vouch for ProLift? These look pretty good.

I just did a search on Napa, they have Balkamp 3 tons on sale for $29.99/pr (normally $40/pr) and 6 tons for $49.99/pr (normally $65/pr). I'm thinking of spending $160 plus tax on a set of each. They don't have the safety pins, but neither do my old 3 tons.
My understanding is on these types its the tiny roll pin that gives away. I've kicked around the idea of drilling another hole or two on either side of the existing pin and putting in some new rolled pins, anyone ever do that?
Are these the stands you are referring to? Is the safety pin necessary?

Wow, thanks for this. I'm going to check mine right away.
Edit: Turns out mine are not even HF stands at all. I was sure I bought them there, but they are ProLift, not Pittsburgh. Thanks for the heads up just the same though.
Yes they'll take them back, there's an actual recall letter floating around. I printed it and had it in hand when I returned mine. In fact they even took my jack stands which weren't part of the recall. IIRC that was addressed in the recall letter too. After two back to back recalls I wasn't taking chances. I returned 4 6ton stands and got cash back. I payed up for US Jack 6 ton stands, well worth the money and no regrets. Are they still taking stands back? How much are they giving for them? I have four sets of 3 ton and two sets of 6 ton that I'd like to replace with US Jacks

Are you talking about the roll pin that connects the handle to the pawl on ratcheting jacks stands? I would have thought that most people would have wanted a roll pin that would break with less force rather than trying to reinforce it.
Oh interesting, you mean the roll pin is designed to shear before it would have enough Force to pick up the pawl, out of the teeth?Depends on what features you need, specifically if you must work on uneven ground or soft ground, even asphalt then you want a larger base with flat feet on them.
If you don't need these things then I'd just get a $30 pair of Torins or really any name brand, not generic including not Harbor Freight.
Some people feel a safety pin is important. I have sets with and without and would pay a little more for the feature but not a lot - I inspect my stands before use and have never had a failure where it would have mattered. It is extremely difficult to accidentally bump a (non-defective) jack stand hard enough to release it while it has significant (corner of a vehicle level of) weight on it. Almost impossible, that's why there's a shear pin on that type of jack stand.
Wonder if that was a sale price?Napa has a decent pair of 6 ton stands for $50 and 3 ton for $30
I find the 3 ton to too short a lot of the time under pick ups and SUV's.

I had a 1 ton E350 , I used small jackstands under the front axel. Are most 3 ton jack stands even tall enough to get a 1/2 ton pickup off the ground? (assuming you are on the frame and trying to get the front wheels off the ground)
I think anything name brand is going to be fine. I have OTCs, some CarQuest ones, some no name el cheapos, and a set of 3 ton Craftsmans. They all look about identical and never had an issue with any of them.
I'd say go with the 6ton. not so much for the weight, but for the height. Are most 3 ton jack stands even tall enough to get a 1/2 ton pickup off the ground? (assuming you are on the frame and trying to get the front wheels off the ground)

Yes "was" a good price up toI bought these last December, under $50 a pair and are 6 ton, also have a lock pin.
IMO if a person isn't going to get under the car 3 ton are fine.

That was back in March, seems like every shipment from Asia comes with a price increase..........................Wonder if that was a sale price?
The six tons of course, are up to $80 now.
I returned two sets of the 3 ton. There was no HF markings on them at all, but same exact design. I got full credit and no questions asked.

Did you get the Daytona Jack with the 3-year warranty the big one?Looking to be some simple 3 ton jack stands. This would be to work on a sedan and a compact car.
I purchased a nice Daytona floor jack from HF. I don't want to buy their aluminum stands. I prefer steel. I'm looking to spend around $50-60 for a pair of stands. Any Recommendations?
I think pretty much the 6 tons will do everything the three tons will do and then some. Of course it can't hurt to have a few three tons laying around also.Been buying Lincoln/Hein Warner stands as needed since about 1990 and haven't found any problems yet. They used to be made in USA, but now I think they're assembled here from parts from who knows where.
Think I have two pairs of the 3 tons and three or four pair of the 6 ton versions.
Six ton jack stands are more versatile, but sometimes are kinda overkill.
Not the cheapest but I like to think I'm paying for extra quality inspections!
