Jeep looks great. Nice to see you mount the winch down between the frame rails as to allow plenty of air flow for that Hemi.

As for the axle shafts, seeing as how you have additional power on tap I would upgrade to some chromoly shafts or even RCV's in your D44. Normal driving shouldn't be an issue but I would worry about getting a front tire lodged or wedged into a rock and then bumping it with that kind of torque behind it you may break a shaft.

Agreed. I have had to work on several stock drivetrain Wranglers with overheating issues and the owners don't like to be told they need to go with a different bumper to mount the winch down low or to get rid of some lights that are blocking the grille.

As for shafts, I've installed quite a few Ten Factory shafts and a few Superior and haven't had any issues with either of them. I've also had great results with the RCV's that I have installed and I had over 100k on them before rebuilding them.

Finally getting around to working on my stairs again. Treads (bolt in) were done over the summer.

This week I got to layout, cutting and drilling the stringers. More to come.

I spent a few hours doing layout and then transfered the hole locations with primer from a spare end plate. I did 26 holes tonight, will finish tommorow. Trying to be easy on the cutter.

Got the stair project finished up. I'll be slapping up a basic handrail on the wall out of some angle I got at the same time I picked up all this material.

Thank you. It certainly took some head scratching to layout correctly. I am pleased with the result given the strange dimensions and using all previously owned material.

I would have the handrail done by now but I got a tiny piece of grinding wheel in my good eye ( I think when taking off my sweatshirt or maybe from my brow ), so that was a distraction to say the least ! Maybe Saturday I'll get to it.

Got started on the next project, a coffee table.

Picked up the top from my wood guy last week. I will need to add 1/16 radius and finish. ( I believe he just wiped it down with mineral spirits or water for the pic ) It's black and english walnut, both very local again. Both, but the black especially have a little of the "flame" in it. Should be killer. Another 2 weeks to acclimate at the house and I should be able to final sand/finish.

I had some CNC parts I cut at one time for a bench, and between them and some tubing drops I had, cut the parts needed.

Will need to wait on the right weather to patina and satin 2K clear the base. You kinda have to strip the scale, weld and finish it all within a day or 2 to get the patina to come out right. ( Due to humidity/temps )

Looks like weather will be nice tomorrow for finishing, so I am moving ahead with the coffee table base. Got the fab in tonight.

Phantom did she get bit with that one before? My wife just got one of those bites this weekend, she wanted some carpet removed, No Problem! Cleaning deteriorated foam backing/pad from floor a big problem, only 1/4 of that rooms floor is "sorta cleaned up". I explained I am not wearing blue tights with a red S on my chest and I have no red-cape [so no superman x-ray vision]. I hate fixer uppers, why did I buy this? Oh yeah I can fix anything

While I'm waiting on my wood top to dry, my buddy gave me a hand checking clearances/bumpstops. We also tensioned my winchline on the hill.

All that remains on the JK is for me to install my CB, which I look forward to the least of anything. Its been on the workbench since October.

The table top is pictured about half way up the page. Black and English Walnut. I hope to work on finishing it in about a week.

I do not have a specific Jeep thread. I bought it and did mostly mechanical repair work and bolt on additions. Not a lot of fab except the basket I made some posts on.

Between that and trim spacers for leveling, it can drive a man nuts. Luckily I'm on the home stretch. I took the last measurement for a little bit of rear bumpstop.

...it looked like your table legs were welded to that 1/4"(~ish) steel plate. I was-a-thinkin' that is going to be FRIGGIN' heavy on moving day!!

Love the way it turned out though, it looks really nice.

It's 3/16 plate, and .125 wall tubing, all of which I had around. Between that and the top, the whole assembly has some gravity in it. I enlisted help to carry it upstairs. My dining table is heavier though.

Had to go back to my kitchen set I made and add some foot rests to the benches. They were strange to sit on without. It's cherry, but I'm not sure how I feel about the exposed screws. Maybe I'll just paint them black with a tiny brush.

That's enough fooling with wood for now. It drives me nuts. I have some old pipe tools and c clamps from my grandpa that need a little attention.

I see what you're saying about the screws. I agree, either dab some paint or maybe a Sharpie permanent marker will be good enough. I've got some estate/garage sale C-clamps that need some attention too. What do you use?

I'm not a tool restorer by any means. I wire wheeled everything today. Scrubbed with mineral spirits and brake clean. Put some spray enamel on from TSC and my go to for exposed metal is CRC 3-36.

Just a functional re-do.

Nothing special but I cleaned up, painted and oiled some of my Pap's old tools. He's come to the realization that he can't handle them, so sent them along. Not a restoration just return to serviceable. I have used the 3/4 threader die, still sharp enough for weekend use.

Finally gave up on the old works of my ACCO 40 Ton Press. I replaced it with this setup I got online. A little rough around the edges but US made.

Picked up another Lista, the DW 1350 in the middle. (tall and wide)

Quite a job swapping around drawers, getting it loaded and labeled.

I'm a little frustrated ordering first quality Lista at this point, I think I'm going to have to just stick to the wrecked ones on ebay should I desire any more in the future. Time will tell if I change my mind.

This one has an infuriating locking issue that I'm going to need help from Joe or a Lista rep with on Monday.

You can operate a drawer, come back 10 seconds later and the whole key needs to be recycled. Does it with new or old drawers, seems to be trigger most in the bottom half of the cabinet.

Dealing with Lista mostly as far as, their poor skimpy packaging for LTL truck freight (duh?) and premium prices have worn on me.

Lista on the secondary market is a good value. First quality, not so much.

I have one cabinet that does this. In the lock bar, which is in the back mounted vertical, it has a small flat curved spring metal piece which is suppose to keep the lock bar in the open position. Mine got bent and fell out. Last I checked this part is not available separately, need to get the complete lock bar. Let us know if this has changed.

Unfortunately I don't have a ton of fun projects going on. Being off the road with the rona situation has me unsure of how to proceed.

I have been working thru a list of maintenance projects. To go with the stairs I made above...... Most recently, I cleaned out junk, pressure washed, painted walls, installed LED hardwire lights and a new fire extinguisher. This is the basement of my shop, only a 7' door and 8' under the beams. Mostly use for storage, painting and trailer storage in the winter months.

On to the main level for new LED high bays and a coat of white next month.

Just wondering why you got rid of the CNC plasma & side hustle. I have been considering picking one up for home hobby use, not a business and would definitely want to know any issues before i spent 8k on a setup i know I wont use that often. I have dreams of making myself a cool fire pit like yours. I probably wouldnt start a side hustle as i am on the road (consultant) 25+ wk/yr.

I traveled the same amount as you and still hustled. It's painful, but possible. After a lot of work and investment making nice things, I wasn't paying the capital back for the table and just made a few dollars. Literally a few dollars. But that was doing it all above board. Insurance, shows, adverts, nice material etc. If you want to make some beer and consumable money from a few close buddies cash only, you can do it easy. Just don't cut any trademarks or make anything that can maim you.

Having a CNC table is freaking awesome. I would really only look at Arclight and JD squared based on what I know now. I went with the Arclight, which was great, but only a water pan. In the light machine category, the water pan is a messy pain the ****. I would look at air for weekend use if I did it again. JD squared's table is wicked rigid and they have air options.

Meager update. Still a little lost as what to start, work is weird. Just laying low.

Installed CB and mesh top in the JK, painted and LED'd the main level of the shop to match the basement, picked up an M18 portaband with hotel points, spent a few PTO days at the range with a pair of Tikka's and my P365.

I've got to take a better picture of the shop now and do some toolbox inventory pics.
