I just saw Supercombo ratcheting wrenches at toolsdelivered.com. U.S. Made, 80 tooth I think. I couldn't find any more information. Anyone know any details on these?

Link? I don’t see them.

Here's a link for the SAE set at toolsdelivered.
https://www.toolsdelivered.com/Williams-WS-1180RS-Hand-Tools-Wrenches-Racheting-Combination-SAE-Sets

Turns out there's also a brochure on the Snap On Industrial Brands website that sheds a little more light on these wrenches as well as some other things being added to the Williams product line.
https://www.snaponindustrialbrands....ndscom/Content/Williams USA 4pg Brochure_.pdf

One interesting thing I noticed. There's a little icon below the ratcheting wrenches that says "USA Forged and Assembled" while other products int he brochure like extensions, and 6 point combo wrenches have an icon stating "made in USA".

Looks like Williams is stepping up their game !

That’s a nice flyer. The ratcheting wrenches aren’t as thin as the new style Snap-on but they will probably suffer more abuse.

I stand by my assertion that with Toolsdelivered.com’s pricing Williams is usually the best value in USA made industrial quality tools. Proto can come close with 25% off coupons at Zoro but Williams is available anytime.

I ordered a set of regular Supercombos (non ratcheting) and a set of Wright Grips to compare. Williams should be here today and Wrights tomorrow. I just read that the smaller sized Supercombos don't have the "supertorque" groves on the open end - Does anyone know if this is true?

Yes, but it is only the smallest sizes ....... 1/4", 5/16", 11/32", 6mm.

I have both metric and sae supercombos and wrightgrips (along with multiple others) and am happy with both styles.

How has your experience been with each? I like the extra length with the Williams and I've read that the bends on the Wright's can be inconsistent, but everyone on this forum really raves about the Wrights.

My Williams seem to be pretty tight on most fasteners. The 3/4 actually is too tight on some I’ve run across. I have to go to another brand.

The Wrights grip well, are shorter than many prefer though. The box ends are not consistent, but I haven't noticed that to be an issue in their functionality. I generally grab whatever I think will work best for the task at hand. I'm a big fan of the beams on the Supercombos. I grab them when I need more leverage. I don't wrench for a living. I see how they could be a little heavy in the larger sizes if you were turning them all day, but I like them.

Would you please measure the 3/4" with a caliper? That sounds like a manufacturing defect.

I use my wrights at work and the box ends on mine are very consistent, I had an issue on two of the open ends tho. I didn't notice it until I went to check them out after another wright thread a few weeks ago. Notice the bend or deformity

As for the new USA made ratcheting supercombos, I also came across them somewhere a few days ago and it got me looking at other Williams stuff. Ordered my first set of regular supercombos this morning! Should be here Monday.

One thing to note ................. the SuperCombos do not have teeth . It is a raised flat area that provides off corner grip. Probably less fastener marring than the Wright.

Alright just opened my set of supercombos and all of them have the groves/raised flat area, even down to the 7mm. They are nice looking wrenches and I really like the length compared to my current set of Pittsburgh wrenches from HF. One thing I’ve notices is that some of the box ends look tarnished black in the grooves. It almost looks like the chrome is flaming off or didn’t adhere but maybe this is just residue from the plating process?

Either way I’m excited to compare to the Wright wrenches tomorrow, but it’s going to be hard to beat these supercombos. I didn’t realize how much nicer the extra length was until I had it in my hand.

They have to put something inside the box end to hang the wrench from while it gets submerged into the chrome plating solution. It's physically impossible to chrome plate an item entirely without a wire mark, so what they do is find an inconspicuous spot to hold the wrench from; usually it's inside the box end.

Let me know what you think. I don't have any Wright's to compare mine to.

I noticed Tools delivered does not have several items listed in the Williams flyer?

I noticed that as well, specifically the stubby wrenches purported to be available in 2018. A search by product number turns up no vendors selling them. Interesting.

It’s more than a wire mark, it’s the entire inside area of the box end. I’ll get some pics uploaded but it seems to be worse on the larger wrenches than the smaller ones.

Don’t have anything accurate enough to be of help. Remember, this is a farm. The stuff I work on is usually covered with ****. Literally.

I have two identical Williams 3/4 inch wrenches, they are my favorites but many times the open end won’t go on, the box is fine. I have Bonneys I use when that happens. Even paint will stop the Williams.

Does your set have different size stamping for SUPERCOMBO? At first I thought they alternated, but I don't think tho. Just inconsistent which looks funny.

As far as the wrenches go, they're good. I like the extra length and they feel great in the hand, but I dont like how thick they are. Seems like a little unneeded heft, but I'm just nit picking for the sake of comparison. The open ends on mine look good, tho the two smallest wrenches say SUPERTORQUE instead of SUPERCOMBO and do not have that. I haven't used them yet and may end up selling them. Not because I dislike them, but because I don't like them enough to switch things up. I think I'll get the matching Wrights, tho I have little/no intention of either of these seeing use at work. Haven't used a SAE tool in months!

Here's a few comparison pics

8 years already, forgot I started this topic. I did get an SAE set of supercombos back then and still love em. I liked em so much I got a metric set a week or so ago. However, I feel quality is slipping. A few of the open ends have horrible chrome. They all have small size markings, smaller then my sae set. To add to it, they stamped 7,8, and 9 to deep making it next to impossible to read. To bad they put mm next to the sizes, just makes it harder to read. I then started checking open end sizes with calipers, they seem to be more oversized compared to the sae set and an inconsistent amount of clearance. In researching, the clearances this metric set has sound pretty common so maybe they have increased the clearance. Maybe that isn't as big of a deal with a design like this but my old set was definetly held tighter.

I really like this length and the open end design so will probably keep them if they will exchange the wrenches with bad open ends, but it's a bummer they are not as quality as they were. I found some recent production Proto ASD wrenches at work, this are seriously nice wrenches. However, I feel the Williams open ends grip better and some of the box ends are pretty sharp on the Protos. If only Wright would make long Pattern, I'd be tempted. Might have to go to snap on but dang their wrench prices are outrageous.
