8 years already, forgot I started this topic. I did get an SAE set of supercombos back then and still love em. I liked em so much I got a metric set a week or so ago. However, I feel quality is slipping. A few of the open ends have horrible chrome. They all have small size markings, smaller then my sae set. To add to it, they stamped 7,8, and 9 to deep making it next to impossible to read. To bad they put mm next to the sizes, just makes it harder to read. I then started checking open end sizes with calipers, they seem to be more oversized compared to the sae set and an inconsistent amount of clearance. In researching, the clearances this metric set has sound pretty common so maybe they have increased the clearance. Maybe that isn't as big of a deal with a design like this but my old set was definetly held tighter.
I really like this length and the open end design so will probably keep them if they will exchange the wrenches with bad open ends, but it's a bummer they are not as quality as they were. I found some recent production Proto ASD wrenches at work, this are seriously nice wrenches. However, I feel the Williams open ends grip better and some of the box ends are pretty sharp on the Protos. If only Wright would make long Pattern, I'd be tempted. Might have to go to snap on but dang their wrench prices are outrageous.
