The EIGHTH highest bidder was $111.

If I can pick them up at $1-2 each, I toss them in a small bin and have almost made a couple of different sets that way.

I sure need to learn something here. I don't know.

I think having the tapered bolt really added to the value that set.
Hmm. Well-spotted and good thinking, Don. That has to be it.
I'm sure I have a set around here somewhere. I hope it has the bolt!
The suspense is killing me! :)

I do the same, but I think I traded mine away. The partial set I was thinking of are Indestro, and I have a complete smaller Indestro version.

I did learn something. Find a good machinist who can make that tapered bolt!

Here is an update on my kit-type wrench sets, complete and a few I am still working on...

Here are some Indestro marked versions I’ve found here and there.

Papaw (Papaw's Wrench dot com) did exactly that. No idea who the guy was or what he charged.

I own at least one of those J.P. Danielson "Auto Kit 100" sets. I think I may have two or three, actually, as there were a few different iterations of them, the earliest being those with "Pat Pend" forged into the handle just above the box end. (Unless I'm mistaken, the next version has the serif font, but NO "Pat Pend", and the third - last - version has the sans-serif font with NO "Pat Pend".)
As I recall, the most I paid for any of them (including the tapered screw and knurled round nut) was $32 bucks, including shipping. (And I considered that paying too much, but it was a pretty cherry set.)

I would be curious to see if that set is re-listed if and when the buyer reneges on the deal when he realizes he over-bid on it.

I got one from Papaw. I don't think he has any more.

Yup. Have to watch for that.

Check out the Item Specifics, I dont think he missed any buzz words that would come up in a common search. I'm glad he is getting a great price but this stuff screws up searching.

Brian

eBay used to have rules against that trolling, but you know how eBay is these days. The buyers are on the bottom of the pile.

Guys,

I'm not so sure the tapered bolt and nut is the answer. If you go to eBay Advanced and look at prior sales, the same set, same tapered bolt and nut, sold for $6, one bidder. There is one about to end with the same tapered bolt and nut with 0 bids available for $9.95.

I'm going with mass temporary insanity.

Um, unless I'm missing something now, you're being facetious, right? It's the same Auto-Kit set wrenches we all have, no tapered bolt, and the seller is just advertising it with interesting car model names.

Sorry Lugz, the shortcomings of cyber communication is that you can't see the twinkle in my eye.

I would guess that this seller saw that last sale and is 'going for it'.

Snerk. See, now THAT sarcasm didn't need an emoticon! HAHA.

On the other hand, what the f@%k is happening??!! It's either some massive conspiracy and con, insane buyers, or, we really are missing something!

Renewing the old thread. Those are from this years yard sale after I took all the dirt and rust off. Still need some cleaning, but will probably just list them on CL
Almost complete set except 9/16-1/2. Two small ones are almost like new

Hard to believe people were paying big money for any of these in the first place, the type of wrenches that you could barely give away at estate sales and elsewhere. As usual, all it takes is six men in a room talking about something here, and the price sky rockets. Then again, these days people will go goo goo for just about anything that comes as a set.

I posted a 6-piece Indestro Flat Box End Wrench set No. 147 in the D/I thread, but I'll post one photo and link it here to see more there and to bump this thread, which was a recent topic of discussion on the 'Old World' thread up on the GD board. Apparently, Matador still makes these types of kits!

Unbranded pressed steel set I picked up this morning. I can't resist these, no matter how cheap they are.

11/64" ?!?!?! :headscrat

Sure! its got 5/32 at the other end! :lol_hitti

Machine screw sizes - I can't imagine the lobster claw relative size makes them much use!

I got into my collection of these while doing some reorganizing:

attachment.php

Its far from all as I have a few more loose and a couple complete kits in a couple of the vehicles (Hey at least a couple bolted down vises came home due to those!)

Here is the breakdown:

Indestrp, both marked and unmarked:

Wards:

Auto Kit/Danielson

and a cheap stamped set similar to the seat Lugz posted:

Only the cheap set is complete other than the sets in my rigs (not shown)

I pick them up in ones, twos or threes, now adn then but only if cheap. They are interesting; but lets face it, with the exception of the cheapo stamped set, they are fairly well made second rate tools.

Found three pieces of an Aetna set at the flea this morning. One of those highly-improbable completion tasks now.

I never noticed before, but that "Aetna" wrench was available in two versions: your "triangular" rethreader hole version, and a square "tap handle" hole version:

Lots of nice kits here, I always like the “Batman” auto kit wrenches. Here’s the only kit I have

I didn't know you had a set. Very nice.

You picked a good one to only have one of! I've been hoping to run into one in the wild here in NJ, but no such luck yet. You know the back story on Art Metal/Ronson, right? If not, internet browser it.

I don't. Those were listed on Ebay a month or so back, but I missed the auction on them (and the Wakefield set.) They are currently re-listed and will be mine provided I don't forget to bid on them. ;)

I think there's a thread for Ronson / Art Metal Works ??? (Not finding it with the "search" function.) I have two or three of those "Nine-in-One" sets made by Ronson - hard to find them complete with the original screw and wing nut!

Dad left me a set of those, I just thought he drilled holes in them himself, bolt was thru them when I was a kid, long gone as I use them regularly. I should bolt them up and put on wall with other stuff.

I picked up 1 of the 4 Ronson kit wrenches this morning. It's the 1/4" x 1/2" wrench. No sign of the others, unfortunately.

On the plus side, this was the wrench on top when they were assembled with their bolt and wingnut, and for that reason, it was the only one they put the patent number (942,993) on! (This one happens to be an example of the run that was stamped with an "8" instead of a "3" - almost certainly due to a reading error.)

Luke Oresk (post #112) has a complete set.

Don (post #114) has the 7/16" x bottle opener x pipe/nut "Alligator" opening that goes on the bottom.

Between you and me, Don, all we need to do is find the two that go in the middle and we can flip for it! :)

I’ve been looking for this little ****** since Lugz’s GS post, somehow following the discussion here. I’m sitting in the middle of my hoard just now, visualizing the last box I saw it in, look down at a different box near my left foot, and there it is! I thought it was with my Penn Reels wrenches, but now I can’t find them, LOL.
